Laoise de Brún BL, founder and CEO of The Countess, spoke about the successful Countess campaign 'These Words Belong To Us', which succeeded in defeating an amendment that would have removed the word 'woman' from statutory maternity protection provision. She explained how she had gathered testimony of both horrific and everyday discrimination faced by the women of Ireland because they alone carry the reproductive burden. The stories are of suffering and love but also brim with maternal love. Many people in the audience were in tears as they listened.
