Truly a man of an actor. His exposure was limited by his own desire to stay to true to himself. I truly respect that. An intelligent manly man.

Yes - he was a REAL movie star. He was that old school Hollywood actor, real men who brought class to their roles, were gentlemen and were not vulgar.

I saw The 300 Spartans in Launceston Tasmania when it first came-out when I was 12. It has dazzled me ever since !!!!!! I regard Richard Egan,s role in that movie to be utterly superb. He personified Leonidas. So much so that when I finally reached Greece in 1999 I immediately found out where the terminus for the bus up North was and I caught that bus to Lamia. I was totally mesmerised by the ancient site, especially the high mound where the last Spartans were murdered, fighting for Greece. I placed some wild flowers on that plaque on top. I have the DVD of course, one of the most wonderful renderings of the 300 Spartans. Cant watch the modern "300" But Richard Egan, I will remember you4ever, just like I will remember Scott Walker $ever !!!!! Jack Launceston Tasmania.....ps I was 70 3 days ago.....

I’ve read many things about Mr. Egan from a wide range of sources. Every one has detailed his great kindness, humility, and immense commitment to his faith (devote Catholic), family, and country. RIP sir and THANK YOU for your service in WWII.

The first time I saw Richard Egan was in the movie "A Summer Place." I was closer in age to Troy Donahue's character, but I found myself falling for Egan's character. What an amazing actor. Gone too soon at 65......

Yes to every kind remark. Not only was Mr. Egan a great actor, handsome, intelligent ... He was also a devout Roman Catholic! His brother was a priest. Go Catholics! But God bless all of you of any faith or religion - even atheists. The interviewer was a dope. Hate to be critical of anyone; now I must go to Confession.

Couldn't she have given him some credit for the success of the show? She sets herself up as an expert on the ingredients and then lists them without any mention of him.

Egan was probably dealing with the cancer at this time, since he only lived a couple of more yrs. past the date suggested of this broadcast.....and he clearly had lost his youthful appeal that he'd had earlier in his career.....which is unfortunate..........

His only problem with films in the 1980s is they didn't want him. He was reduced to appearing in a terrible soap opera because it was all he was offered.
