I mean... I thought it was by far more like the side story to 'The Story of Us'. Just take a look at the lyrics. They basically explain in a detailed way how John and Taylor's 'story' came to an end.
@@user-ui5zr7mi1dwell i mean this in the best way possible but it’s not really speculation on her life if she wrote the song and had it published for people to listen to
Speak Now is my favourite album and I was so excited when Taylor's Version was released. I literally cried when I saw this wasn't one of the vault songs
Ikr!! although the vault tracks from speak now Taylor’s version are very good I just wish she could’ve replaced the song. I can see you with this song instead.
The first shot's fired, everybody's gathered around You're looking at me like I tried to take you down No, no, that's not what happened at all There's no sound, I'm waiting on your next move A showdown and I know where to hit you But no, no, it's not how I wanted this to go down Now we're standing in the ring And you make the first swing And now we're fighting dirty Won't somebody come say "break it up"? And I used to be on your side Now it's looking like we're going to battle And why you're taking shots at me like Somebody's gonna give you a medal? And I never wanna hurt you But I'm tired of taking all these blows And so I'd rather be on your side But if you wanna fight Baby let's go, oh, oh Let's go, oh, oh So gloves off, if this is how you want it We had it all, but you couldn't keep a promise No, no, I'm not the one who tore us apart Let me remind you for a minute why we're not fine Is she here? Is she standing on the sidelines? Oh, oh, can't you tell this is breaking my heart? Now we're standing in the ring And you make the first swing And now I'm fighting dirty But I ain't going down 'til they break it up And I used to be on your side Now it's looking like we're going to battle And why you're taking shots at me like Somebody's gonna give you a medal? And I never wanna hurt you But I'm tired of taking all these blows And so I'd rather be on your side But if you wanna fight Let's go, oh, oh Let's go, oh, oh Now we're standing in the ring Breaking everything That we've been building up so long And I don't wanna do this break it up But you're not who I thought you were And this is looking more like a war Looks like we're going to war And I used to be on your side Now it's looking like we're going to battle And I'm trying not to break down crying No one's gonna give you a medal And I never wanna hurt you But I'm tired of taking all these blows And so I'd rather be on your side I'd rather be on your side But if you wanna fight Baby let's go, oh, oh Looks like we're going to war Oh, oh The first shot's fired, everybody's gathered around You're looking at me like I tried to take you down No, no, but if you wanna fight, baby, let's go
Every time I hear this song my brain can’t help but mash it up with “Should’ve Said No” like: Now we’re standing in the ring and you make the first swing and now we’re fighting dirty won’t somebody come say “break it up”? YOU SHOULD’VE SAID NO YOU SHOULD’VE GONE HOME SHOULD’VE THOUGHT TWICE FORE YOU LET IT ALL GO YOU SHOULD’VE KNOWN THAT WORD BOUT WHAT YOU DID WITH HER WOULD GET BACK TO MEEEE
wait omg that would be so fitting. this song really reminds me of the kanye and kim drama. "The first shot's fired, everybody's gathered around / You're looking at me like I tried to take you down / No, no, that's not what happened at all /T here's no sound, I'm waiting on your next move / A showdown and I know where to hit you / But no, no, it's not how I wanted this to go down" and "But you're not who I thought you were / And this is looking more like a war / Looks like we're going to war" are so rep
One thing I’m wondering if after all the rereleases are done I’d we’ll get “vault albums” like “The vault Vol 1:” and hrs a bunch of all the vault songs together and after so many months we get “vault Vol 2” and so on and so on
@@leaspeer3323I was actually just thinking about this the other day and how awesome it would be if after she’s done rereleasing her final two that she just surprises us and releases all of the songs she had to cut from albums, but still really wants us to hear. It could be like the chaotic 3 AM surprise from Midnights 😂 Plus, if she did that and just allowed the date it was released be the date of the songs, rather than give a specific era for each one, it would keep us guessing and trying to figure out when it could have been written or what/who it was about. It would be like Midnights, where we don’t know exactly at which point in her career each song was written about, but it would be just all previously unreleased vault tracks. I’m sure it won’t happen, but we can only dream. Lol. Plus, we know she has probably like a million songs she’s written and always wanted to release, but had to cut from her albums for various reasons. You know she’s always writing. The woman never takes a break. I’m starting to wonder if she even sleeps, lol. I’m positive if her record label was like “You need to come up with new music in two days and record an album and release it by this weekend” that she would be like “Okay. Here you go…” only a few hours later 😂
Kinda understand why she didn’t include this, lyrically it sounds like The Story of Us (I liked it better when you were on my side / I used to be on your side) and also it doesn’t have much depth like the other vault tracks
Pretty sure she didn't include it because it has cowriters and shewanted Speak Now TV to be entirely self written. But I don't care if there are lyrics similar, I want it rerecorded.
As some other people explained maybe the reason is that it had cowriters, because I thought that the vault should be about every single thing written on that era
@@annaphallacticI think that you’re onto something here. She wanted Speak Now TV to be completely self written (which is why she excluded If This Was A Movie from the album). Maybe she knew she’d have to give writing credits to release this song (unless she changed the composition instead), making it seem like the album isn’t completely self-written.
Omg I love this?! 😍😭 And it's in her Fearless voice and not her big girl voice, omg. 🥺🥰 And she still has that country twang here, yeehaw. 🤠 I know she grew up in Pennsylvania and that her country twang was fake, but honestly, I always loved it and I could never see those first albums without it. 🥰 Commit to the bit, I say! 😁 Also: this song reminds me A LOT of "The story of us" and "The great war". All that being said, this song is SO GOOD! 🤩 I've never heard it before but I instantly took a liking to it: Taylor, you've done it again! 👏🙌🙏❤
To be fair with the country twang, I think some is exaggerated, but living in the south, it’s easy to slip into when you hear so many people around you doing it. It’s funny because my mom’s entire family came from Ohio, and some siblings ended up with a southern accent and others didn’t. So, I could see her slipping into a bit of one (more like it was in late Fearless or Speak now) due to being surrounded by it.
@@jgallardo7344 Yeah I guess. :) No I know Pennsylvania doesn't have that accent and that you talk like that in the south, of course. I know Taylor grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Nashville to do country music and what I mean is: she kinda developed/faked that country twang for that country music and I feel like that was the right choice bc I couldn't see it without the twang.
@@samkathryn4825 Haha well I love it either way. :) You can't make a country album without the twang in my opinion. 😉😁 Oh yeah, for sure! You're so right. 😊 That is funny, and interesting. :) Wonder why some got it and some didn't... 🤔😊 Yeah definitely, she was there for quite some time. :) And she BETTER bring it back for debut TV. 😉😁
Is this the one that’s been going around for years? I swore the one I heard not long ago had much more mature and stronger vocals. I remember fans arguing in the comments over whether it sounded more like Speak Now or Red era. A lot of people thought Red, with some claiming that it was a known fact that it was cut from Red, but based on this much more clear version I would say it sounds more like her voice around the time of Fearless or even Taylor Swift (self-titled). You can tell her voice is not as trained, matured, or in control here. I guess the rougher demos weren’t as clear as this one and that made her tone and pitch sound a lot more matured. Great job on cleaning it up so we could truly hear it how it was meant to sound. It’s insane how different songs can sound when someone knows what they’re doing to clear up the vocals and overall sound. Thanks for uploading this 😊
I actually understand that's it was not released. Neither it's lyrically not as powerful as Taylor Swift's lyricism usually is, nor is there a stand out music. It sounds like a blend of a number of different Taylor Swift songs.
Yakin banget sebenernya lagu ini hampir rilis tapi di ganti sama haunted, dari instrumental sama struktur lagunya mirip bngt sm haunted bagian intro sm outro liriknya dibikin sama..
No same Ive been looking for the one that was made like a couple years before but I guess it disappeared and all the ones now are not my fave I like this version of the song
@@DanTheMan27not always. You have to keep in mind albums are all about marketing and strategy. They could be from other periods but she’s not going to tell us that
Except If This Was A Movie was never a vault track. It was part of the original Speak Now Deluxe Edition. Adding it as a single with Fearless artwork was a way to keep Speak Now TV 100% Taylor written.
This song would have been better fitted for Red. I felt the same for Bad Blood. I just feel it was not fitted for 1989. I’d rather that be on reputation
I’m assuming it’s not self-written. I can’t think of another reason why she wouldn’t put this on speak now. Everyone loves this song and was looking forward to it. I think (hope) it will end up on a different re-record.
Am I the only one who still hears some of her country accent in this? Like it could maybe be from debut and not speak now??? I have no idea when it was released but that’s what I instantly think. Watch it be on debut TV 😶
I think this wasn't made for the Speak Now album, but it was supposed to be a soundtrack for the "Hunger Games" Movie back in 2012. Since they started recording/writing songs from 2010-2011. This track was probably scrapped at the end since there was probably no more tracks "fitting" for the movie. I guess this got replaced by Eyes Open since both of them have the same vibe.
It’s sad how she never put this on the re release. The vault tracks on speak now other then castle crumbling was shit. This u can tell was her box of her country and mixing her more rock/pop sound of the album
i agree that this shouldve been on SNTV and i was so sad when it wasnt but i loved the SNTV vault ngl like electric touch?!? timeless?!? wouldve been better with battle tho
castles crumbling, timeless and i can see you imo were actually good but i would have loved this on there too. she didn’t put it in there because speak now is 100% a self written album and this song had a co-writer so she didn’t add it.
@@luvelytayz that makes sense. She could’ve did what she did for if this was a movie but oh well. I don’t think this is the best song she’s written and I don’t NEED it, but I could live without foolish one just as easily.
