I think you kind of answered why she hasn't taken off actually, I think it's because the majority hasn't actually heard her music and the media talks about what she says rather than what she does.

AB is underrated because she is an outspoken black woman. She has said some crazy things, but she has said more things that made sense. People tend to try to start beefs with her because they know she's a live wire. It's also because of Interscope not representing her correctly. Now she is independent and it's harder to become successful when you are an independent artist. I honestly think its a mixture of things.

AB's rhyme schemes and how she approaches beats is 90's based. Her music is nostalgic and hip house appeals more so to Generation Xer's. They're paying bills, not buying records. Millennials ears have been conditioned to be more receptive to trap. The feel of today's music is 70-75 bpms, Ab's music 120-124 bpms. Tempo and groove effects dance styles. Basically, if you Milly rock to this you might dislocate a shoulder. 4 to the floor, disco/house beats are a rarity in mainstream music today. That's part of AB's dilemma. This sound is very '91.

Azealia has not gone further cause she does not kiss the music industry's ass. She knows that the industry is about a look, and a slot for her to fit in and she's a Gemini and not about that BS, lol. She shot herself in the foot millions of times and knows that she is more talented than the majority. She thought her talent should be the driving force, but found out different when she got behind the curtain. It's unfortunate but she was 100% right about all she has said. It's not what she said but HOW she says it and how it's taken by the "masters" who will cut her checks. In this music world... Stevie Wonder wouldn't be great either. cause he's blind.. Dianna Ross would have been too skinny in 2018. James Brown would have been too... fill in the blank... The Jews running this industry only let those who fit into their agenda have a voice. and if you don't do it.. they find the next hungry person talented or not to take that spot. There.. I summed up Azealia in a paragraph, lol.

she hasn't gotten the support from the music industry, and social media chooses to focus on her controversial opinion rather than showcasing her talent, her discography is there, her production is there, everything is there, but she's still considered an underdog artist

Yayyyy!! Another AB reaction video!! 1991 is my favorite song by her. I think the main reason Azealia 's music isn't where Nicki Minaj and other mainstream rappers are is because Azealia....most people may say it's her mouth, but I truly believe it's because she has never been signed to a label that was willing to truly support her as an artist. I forgot why she left XL Recordings but Interscope shelved her music for 2 and a half years because they didn't approve of the music she was making. They wanted her to sound like what was on the radio now and tone down her artistry. She didn't approve of it and got a lawyer to remove her from Interscope record. Long story short, she released her album in 2014 under an indie label and began touring again. BUT she later left that label because she wasn't getting the support she needed. Things went crazy in 2016 when she lost a lot of money and she was doing everything on her own again. She got into this incident with RZA and Russel Crowe (I'm sure you've probably heard.) She later got blacklisted from fashion shows and festivals because of what happened. Now Azealia is signed to Eone who is doing a really good job of promoting her music, she's performing at concerts again and her new single Anna Wintour is charting and is getting so much attention. I really hope that this will finally get her on the map so we can see her on tv and hear her music on radio stations.

I'm such a hugeeeee AB fan. I support her so much because of the fact that she still continues to grow as an artist and listens to her fans about her music. It's such a shame she isn't as big as she should be... a lot of people tend to listen to the what the media says about her claiming her to be as that "crazy black bitch" which is such a shame....its undeniable that she's talented and I love that she's true to herself

She's dark skinned and no powerful guy cosigns...those are the only reasons.

Been a fan since 2011, discovered her bc one of my fave bands Ladytron kept mixing 17 in their sets which she sampled. (She was 17 at the time) and I was like WHO IS THIS GIRL! I couldn’t find her for a while then once I did I listened to everything she released and fell in love w her music! Yea there’s been controversy but u can NEVER deny the talent she has. She can sing and that rap and freestyle is insane. Just saw her in Santa Ana the other night again and she never disappoints! I’ve always liked her bc her style was different. Music is TRASH nowadays! When you release stuff independently it makes it a lot harder to sell and make money vs mainstream. But she out here doin the damn thing! she out here selling her soap cuz AZEALIA GOT BARS!!! Lol Most just pay attention to the controversy and don’t look into the music! been team Banks since 2011 and I’m not going anywhere! :)

Yo I dig your vids! The Anna Wintour one was my first so far! Oh boy, I'm glad you asked this question. AB is my fave, but also my least liked. If that can make some sense. I think she got really comfortable with the fame and her disrespect to, what feels like but isn't, everyone else just killed it. I mean, she was just attacking any artist she felt threatened by, even if they didn't talk. She has said A LOT of nasty, nasty crap out there that went beyond brutally honest and just straight into bigotry and hate. She makes some REAL valid points that goes on in the industry and struggles of some communities, but she takes all that valid criticism and then channels it out in just as much hate. Her homophobia was such a turn off for me, especially since she spoke against the injustice against the communities she feels apart of. To top it off, she was also VERY racist against several folk. particularly that OD kid, calling him "curry scented **" and all that. There is a fine line between being aware and honest and just being an asshole, and she dipped way past that line several times. She's stepped up since some instances, apologizing and recognizing what she did/say. And her meaning behind Anna Wintour is great and somewhat redeeming. She's going to have to stay real calm and just productive if the industry is going to start elevating her again, she has a reputation that is haunting her at the moment. Her music is all that I come back for nowadays, not her personality.

I feel like her music is like art. Only a few of people has a desire and like. She isn't mainstream because our society wants to stay inside of this box of music and they don't like branching out and embracing other types of music. Also I believe the media wants her to embody this personification of a black woman and she wants to keep her own stature. She had & still has the opportunity to go hard & bring back that 90s garage house movement in New York & New Jersey.. This was a small dynasty of how far in the game she was before pop smoke or the nyc sound that is at the moment stuck on drill this was fr-fr early underground house runway movement shit at it's core & still one of the hardest tracks she's ever put out. When I think about her I sadly think about space ghost purrp & how some of the most iconic artists in this time get over looked due to mental health & how artistic people can be shot down. She's had labels fuck her over and other well respected celebs like RZA and Russel Crowe have lied about her to ruin her career. I think it hasn’t taken off especially here in America is her particular genre of house is not the mainstream “sound” and it hasn’t been since the 90’s. So you couple that with her “problematic” persona and there you have it.

She always raps over instrumentals that were already made. Not her own. However, she does make the beats legendary with her rap over it. I think the only released songs that had the beat intended for her was 212 (prod by lazy jay) and ice princess. The rest were produced by other artists.

Her problem is herself , she’s problematic that’s why she’s always beefing being negative . That’s why her career isn’t much bigger . She has a big fan base there is some colorism in the industry but her case herself .

Where new music gets heard these days? Subscription streaming. Also old fashioned radio. They have a sound they go for. AB is a bit dated but that’s not it. Because it’s a new take on something familiar. But 212 was a big success because it was a new sound. That is, Grime (influenced). Grime is like a much simplified version of house. You need 808 drums and minimal production. It’s a bit harder. She didn’t pursue that sound though and fell back on more traditional house beats. Which feels less new.

I think she had poor to NO management. When she did, she couldn't be contained. She is her own person with strong opinions - that are not agreed upon for the majority of society, but she is right on some social topics. She alienated herself from the industry. She could have been the best female rapper alive, but she blew it.

It’s her attitude, you have to her more than talent to be successful.
