This is one of THE greatest interviews on Late Night with David Letterman of all-time. Professional opponent Bruce "The Mouse" Strauss discusses his illustrious boxing career with Dave.
Glad to hear he's doing well, I saw him get knocked out against Carlos Palomino in Rochester New York about 30 years ago, I feel like I'm a part of History
Isn't he from New Milford NJ? I was from Bergenfield and I think he had my uncle for a teacher..If I'm right you might of had my uncle for a teacher also..he went by the name of Mr. C.
Strauss once fought Eckard Dagge a German pro in Cologne, Germany (Dagge won on points after 8 rounds). That guy was also a very funny guy, of course he had more successfull carrer when these to guys met in 1981. Dagge once said: "Many Champions became Drnkards later, but I'm the only Drunkard to become a Champion!". Dagge was the WBC Light Midleweight Chamoion from 1976 to 1977 with two successfull title defences. His record: 26 wins, 5 losses, 1 draw with 16 wins by Knock Out.
Bruce fought Charlie Weir, a murderous puncher, in South Africa in the 1970s. I think this is the fight he talks about "in Africa". Weir was a Jr Middleweight who went on to unsuccessfully challenge Davey Moore for the WBA championship.
Seen this guy on richthefighthistorian channel I've never met anyone like him in 39 years of breathing I'm an ex fighter I'd have 2 or 3 per day back to back unlicensed bareknuckle but I was fighting to take your soul and money most importantly, he's a interesting guy lol
I did that in the amateurs and won both fights. I have never been knocked out and I’ve never quit. I just had too bride to not give everything. He sure made more money than me doing it the easy way 🤷🏽♂️
Damnnnnn, if this guy wanted to, he could be a professional comedian and be one of the best. Funny, interesting, fun-loving man. Good for him and his family!
@@STEVEHEROLD So, when David Letterman says "You'll have to come back n see us again!" Did Bruce the Mouse ever return on his program! Was that show still done in NYC ?Also does "New Look" magazine still happen ?
@@chairlesnicol672 letterman was always done in NYC. I don't recall if Bruce ever made a return appearance. I don't remember seeing him again but it wouldn't surprise me if he did. there's a guy who's name is escaping me right now who knew everything about letterman. if he still has a channel he'd def know the answer.
@@grbbbc Thnx for the reply! In fact I believe Bruce wanted on the show in part to "show-case" his comedic side style to Letterman ( who used to b a comedian) so Bruce was almost expecting the audience to participate with laughs, for sure not boos! Sure made Dave laugh and he was even asked back again! I wonder if the guests ever got paid for appearing on shows like this! Some of the guests on Oprah Winfrey get small scale "swag" and hotel accommodation / airfares to to meet the schedule of the program so prolly Bruce got a nice hotel spot anyways out of this clip! But I think this was the only time he appeared and he never did another interview with Dave Letterman! But that was big to b a guest on his platform! Back 20 yrs on Ed Sullivan if u were an entertainer or musician and u were good or interesting enough to b invited on his show ,you were gonna make it in the business and to b invited back again was almost a guarantee of success! So no I don't think the laughs bothered Bruce much at all ! It's all good!
