I agree, thermal imaging is expensive any way you look at it, but it certainly is handy, and if you buy something this, Leopold (Nioa) have a good name, they’ll look after you if you have any dramas. I had issues with a scope, and they went above and beyond to help me out, I can’t speak any higher of them. Great review Ozzie, cheers mate! 👍
I live 2 hours from the leupold factory. I. Oregon it RAINS A LOT, it's cold and got (humid). They make awesome optics, and their warrente is outstanding. If you buy a busted used leopold. They will replace it with a current production model. My old range finder died after 6 years. they gave me their NEW top of the line to replace it. Leupold is worth every penny.
30mm would fit common scope rings but I think this is not rated for the shock of firearm operation. I suspect this is meant for preliminary testing and they will be moving into that space. They already make fine conventional rifle optics.
Ozzie, Cabelas is selling them for 399 American this next couple a weeks here in America. I bought one because for 399, it felt like it was free. For 2k Aussie, I do not know if I would be in.
Light is irrelevant. The temperature of the surroundings is relevant. During the day, the ground may be hotter so the animals won't stand out that much, if at all.
So it looks like 300 yards is kind of hitting the edge of this devices capabilities. Is that a fair assumption? I'm looking for something that can pick up at 1,000 yards or less.
Hi Ozzie, I'm assuming you were filming using an external camera through the lense and not an onboard built it camera, therefore, could you confirm if the picture resolution looks the same in real life as it did through your camera?
At 5:45 there is an odd clicking sound and the frame freezes for a second. I noticed that mine is doing the same thing. I didn’t notice it when I used it the first few days, but after I replaced the battery I started noticing it. Has yours always done that from day one?
I don’t know. Tracking at 75 yards seems shifty. God forbid you end up in an engagement, most of them take place at 300 yards. You might need something more high powered.
Hey ozzie you were correct; youtube has unsubscribed your channel from my subscription list. This is BS as you are competent and fully law abiding in your videos, reviews and information output. You are pro safety, pro lawful and responsible use and ownership. For the rest of you OR fans, keep checking and resubscribing as youtube is anti gun and is attempting to interfere with OR broadcasts, videos and content. 🤜
have a question! I would like to buy the new HD model number 2 and would like to know if the thermal bezel to a reticle of aiming? that is to say a small cross? because the sellers say no! but on some model on the videos of youtube we see this cross! can someone answer me?
And it’s LIGHT! Try carrying around and scanning a thermal scope mounted on a rifle for more than a few minutes! It WILL wear your arms, shoulders and lower back out quickly!
Victoria Shooters - Please be aware that it is an offense to posses such item like this when in possession of a firearm in recognized deer habitat etc. Know this simply from passing through state forest with a ATN Thor 4 Thermal Optic equipped to my Tikka T3x 204ruger on my way to private property when I was intercepted. I was summoned to attend court on the basis of possess "Artificial Light" within a Deer Habitat etc, However due to the circumstances of the firearm being securely locked in the rear of the 4x4. These were all dropped. Please be mindful of where and how you use items like this. Cheers.
For that sort of money Ozzie, I would expect it to work correctly straight out of the box instead of having to muck around with settings. Just my opinion. Great review though mate.
I’m not super familiar with these systems but I think they have all these settings so that you can optimize the camera for a wide variety of situations. Variations in day, night, ambient temp, distance, and cover are all going to affect the settings required for best results let alone personal preference. It’s be disappointing to pay all that money for a camera that only works in specific conditions, like nighttime with a low ambient temperature. Plus I imagine you would become more familiar and efficient with the settings with practice. An example, expensive dslr cameras have a ton of different settings, yes they have those automatic point and shoot modes but do they give you a better photograph than if you truly knew how to dial in the settings manually yourself.
The commercial / advertiser on your monetize channel is illegally using part of this video in their commercial. They stole the part of this video when you pointed the thermal imager at your hand Bob from USA
@@chrispeterson1247 well that sucks. Shooting at night in state forests is illegal then again only a few states allow shooting in state forest or public land most of our shooting is on private property. Dogging is also regulated everything in Australia is regulated. Oh god wish we had your bill of rights. You Reckon you want extra 6 states and territory in the union?
About a grand more than this though. Although id say save up a bit longer and buy something like you suggested rather than burn $700-$800 on something that wouldn't get the job done.
I disagree. The screen and sensor specs are way better for this price. The problem is you're viewing through another camera lense rather than direct capture so there's sampling, quantizaton, moire patterns, and other errors.
