I installed this optic on a crossman 760 air rifle.I have now shot the riffle around 500 times during target/plinking practice, and the ru-vid.comUgkxc4K63Fd5LglDMObu7-Bgapxp_ef0W8hE scope has done well. With this optic, I have neutralized around 30 pigeons that were invading one of my buildings. For my short range air rifle, I will continue to use this scope, but will be upgrading to a more powerful scope, when I buy a more powerful air rifle, in order to shoot at longer distance. For the money I have spent, this scope has truly been a great buy.
Pronounced “Lewpold”. Great scopes, have two of them. Excellent for early morning and late afternoon hunting in NC in heavy woods. You can barely see with naked eye but clearly through the scope. I wouldn’t trade them for anything. I compared them to a couple of higher end scopes, they don’t disappoint unless you want a fancy reticle.
I have a remington model 788 that in installed that scope on. A freind and i shot it last fall at 637yrds . We both took two shots using a lead sled . I hit a 4" and a 4"3/4 from the bulls eye and my freid hit a 3" and a 8" from the bulls but he said he felt he pulled the second shot. Even though its the most money I ever spent on a hunting device I love it. To be continued this summer when we can find enough real-estate to stretch it to the cds full potential 960 yards
I bought 2 for my Anschutz 1712 AV SS and steyr zephyr ii and one of my scope the gasket o-ring seal on the windage knob came off, so I called Leupold and they told me that nothing gonna happen to the scope without the seal. Love it.
All my favourit rifles have leupold scopes incluuuuding a special VX L 4.5-14X56 on my Mauser M12. That is the scope which has a notch underneath it. Also, now l like the SFP scopes over FFP. I do have a 223 with a Nikon Black 1000 scope in 6-24X50 sscope but l like my Leuupolds with SFP better. Got 4 now. Even my 22 LR has a freedom 4-12X40 scope on it.
I have a SWFA branded FFP that I really wanted to like, but I just can’t stand how tiny the reticle is at 3x power. It’s really only useful from 7x up. SFP with a standard duplex reticle, for me, is the way to go. Thanks for watching!
I just picked this up in the wind-plex reticle for a Howa 6.5 Creedmore cant wait to get it in and start shooting. Great review brother keepem coming!!!
🤣🤣🤣, hey brother, you are not a dueshebag. Thanks for the info. I just purchased one and put it on a Kimber model 8400 SuperAmercan? Ca? I don't know. Anyways, thanks for the info brother. Wasn't sure about the top turret. I am an old school guy so I am learning about this new stuff. Again, thanks brother for the help 👍
I just got one of these and are trying to learn the features and watching your video. On another video. That windage knob you can pull it out spin it so it re zeros. I guess that’s why it feels weird. It pulls out.
Yea it does. I forgot to cover that feature in this video. What I meant by not feeling right was in reference to the quality. It seemed like there was a lot of thought and quality material in the elevation turret and not so much in the windage turret. Still a great scope though. Thanks for watching!
Gave you thumbs up even tho had a thumbs down cartridge (lol). I think it’s a great scope for price range. Very happy with mine. I have bigger objective due to caliber. Ruger great gun for money also. Thanks
It really is a great scope. I may end up with another one in the near future. I agree, ruger makes a great value rifle. Thanks for watching and the thumbs up.
That's correct. You get it zeroed (at whatever range you desire), take the cap off by releasing the 3 screws and then put it back on so the 0 is in line with the white hash mark.
@@riv3rbanks282 lol. I agree however it works plus once the windage is dialed in you never have to worry about it again. The cds takes care of the elevation and if you have a wind plex that covers your windage. Aaaaannnnnd their range finders calculate the wind hold overs for 10mph winds. Soooo I really wouldn’t worry to much about that rubber ring. Just tell people it’s for laser seeking two legged deer or some shit
I have the same scope mounted on a Remington 700 SPS Varmint .22-250 26" heavy barrel. Its definitely a bench rifle. I like hje clarity and functionality of the CDS zl2 turret.
@@riv3rbanks282 I worked at my LGS for over a year. I was able to earn points to get two Swarovski scopes, one Zeiss scope and one pair of binoculars and a heavily discounted Leopuld all free as part of the sales incentive programs.
I put this scope on my new xbolt long range hunter in 300 win mag. I love it! Sighted it in at 100 yards, but would like to reach out because I bought a gun and scope that can. Will you be getting the cds? If so, will you be trying different rounds? Right now I bought 2 boxes of shells for $100, seems it’ll get pretty expensive if I’m not happy with this kind.
That's a sweet setup. I recently moved this scope to a new Tikka T3x in 6.5CM. I am still waiting to send in the voucher for the CDS turret. I have about 5 different boxes of ammo to try but I have been so busy lately. It's so hard to even find ammo in stores right now. Hope one of the boxes you bought makes you happy. You're right, it's an expensive sport.
Once you have your rifle sighted in do you take the Allen wrench and take off the top of the turret and set it back to zero and tighten it just bought one and haven't decided it in yet just wondering if that's the way you do it
Yep. That exactly how you do it. 3 set screws on the top turret. For the windage knob, you pop it out by pulling and then turn it to zero and push it back in
Does your elevation turret hashmarks always line up with the hashmark on the scope for each click? Mine is inconsistent sometimes lines up other times hashmark on scope lines up in middle of two hashmarks on elevation turret. I just got this scope so I’m thinking I might have a lemon.
My turret is similar. The hash lands just a hair in front of the scope hash. Close enough where I can tell though. It may have to do with resetting the turret to zero after sighting in. Also remember that turret is just temporary until you order your cds.
I actually haven't sent my voucher in yet. I mounted the scope to the Ruger in the video and had a dope chart taped to the bell of the scope. About a year later I moved the scope to my new Tikka rifle. I've been so busy with work, I haven't gotten a chance to even sight it in on that rifle. The plan was to post another video after getting the CDS turret in and giving some feedback on how it preforms, but I just haven't had the time lately. Stay tuned.
Still need to send it in now that I have it on the rifle it will stay on. Wouldn't say I threw a grand away though, still a great scope and well worth the money even without the custom dial.
Don't you think it's a little messed up to go and take advantage of the store that pays the expense of having the item in stock in a store where you rub your paws all over it, just to go give your money to an online retailer that didn't provide ANY of the actual service?
You make a fair point and I typically do buy things from the store where it’s in stock. That being said, sometimes the service that is provided is not worth the up-charge of the item. This was one of those times.
I think they are adequate. It’s not as beefy a click as others but enough for me to tell it did in fact click. I have an swfa scope can definitely tell the difference in clicks.
I hear you. The issue is it is really difficult to display the quality of glass by using a camera. It has to be seen first hand to really see the differences from other scopes.
You find a better deal online because you Can't look through it....Box stores Must charge more because they provide service with and for the product. Kinda lame to advise people to take a salesperson's time and effort and then buy it online dont ya think? My local store price matches, find one that does and shop local. Also VX 6 is just 6x Magnification range versus 5x on the VX 5, glass etc the same, A $800 scope using cheap ammo and a cheap rifle...I couldn't finish the video...sorry
It's not wasting a sales person's time to go talk shop and look at scopes. They are paid hourly, not getting a commission for sales, and would much rather be engaged with a person than not. Cabelas gets enough of my money every year as it is. The VX6 is not just 6x magnification range vs 5X for the VX5. The magnification on the scope in this video is variable 3x-15x. The VX6 has some additional features and is much more expensive. If you know anything about long-range hunting/shooting, then you know the scope is the most important part of your rifle. Most guns will shoot tight groups (The Ruger American included), but if you can't see your target clearly then what's the point? As far as the ammo goes, I tried several different brands and loads, but the American whitetail performed the best with this rifle. It just so happens to be the cheapest too. It is still very effective on the deer I shoot.
@@riv3rbanks282 1st i was telling you what the 6 in VX 6 stands for. That is what it stands for. 2nd: The scope is Not the most important part of your rifle as it is Not a part of your rifle. I wager I have killed far more elk and deer than you have. 3rd: A good scope is a great thing. And your rifle may well indeed shoot tight groups. You don't mention exactly what that means however. You did not even really know what a chronograph is/for! A good quality rifle is more important than the scope actually. What good is seeing something you can't hit. A 1 MOA rifle is still an 11 inch group at 1000 yards. You need a 1/2 inch gun if you are going to be consistent at that range and the Ruger American just is not that kind of rifle. Lastly you do not seem to know much about the retail business. Employees get bonus points for selling certain brands of scopes. It is why many push Vortex so hard. Look up "Vortex bucks" Also you Think they would rather stand around with somebody discussing scopes. You said it was so clear....Heck man a Tasco is clear in the light of the store. My store has a set up where I ca take the scope outside and use it t sunset or whatever looking around. And I use a Leupold by the way
@@xxxarmycop The 6 means the scope has a 6x zoom range, i.e. the highest magnification is 6 times the lowest magnification... ex: 1-6X, 2-12X, 3-18X. I'm also saying the VX6 is a tier above the VX5. The minute you mount a scope to your rifle, it becomes part of your rifle. A rifle without a sight on it is pretty useless. You likely have killed more elk than me because I live in Texas and have never been elk hunting. Tight groups are sub MOA. I know what a chronograph is but have never used one personally. We'll have to disagree on if a quality rifle is more important than a quality scope. I will also mention that I won't take shots on an animal greater than 400 yards. You obviously have your opinions and I have mine. It is fine if we disagree, but I think we can both agree that Leupold makes a great scope.
