Levar Burton: "I Was Continually Harassed By LAPD" 

LeVar is one of my heroes. Well spoken, intelligent, compassionate, and inspiring. He's a living example of not allowing how others define you, define you. He just did his thing, which was strive to be a good person make a positive impact on the world.

Gee whiz, what a stand up guy to admit he was wrong and apologize on the air. The world needs more men like Levar Burton.

I really like Levar Burton. He seems like a great guy.

I've always liked LeVar, especially before his Star Trek days during Reading Rainbow. And I appreciate the fact that even though he is a celebrity, he still maintains his modest and honest nature about himself, and it took great courage on his part to publicly admit that he was in the wrong in the incident with that police officer. LeVar, you are an inspiration to all of us! Kudos to you! :)

Makes me wonder if those same LAPD cops, assuming they're retired and still alive, watched this. AND thought to themselves, after these years, he was talking about *that* in his life. Not success from Kunta, "Rainbow", Kwame or Geordi. But his own character.

He's been harassed by Klingons, Romulans and the friggin Borg so I'd have thought he'd be tough enough to take it by now.

I agree with Ryan Reynolds "This man is a $^%^%% national treasure." That being said, I'm a white guy that has been driving for about 40 years and I've been pulled over probably 20 times in my life. Most were for ticky-tack things and a few were actually valid. I don't care what color you are, getting a speeding ticket for going 5mph over on an Easter Sunday with no other vehicles in sight just ain't right. And while I'm at it, I also think that unless cops are undercover in some kind of drug sting, then they should have to be in an officially marked car. How the hell are we supposed to know if they are legit or some psycho serial killer? Also, no-knock warrants and busting into anybody's house should not be legal unless someone's life is in danger. Ok. I'm done venting now. I'll shut up.

The police are not always wrong obviously. But as a profession they break more protocols in poorer and ethnic neighborhoods. Traditionally, the poor do not complain or know their rights as well as monied higher socio-economic class folks. Cellphones and body cams are bridging the gap in some instances, but the system is a long way from equal. Police are a microcosm of the overall society.

dude, welcome to the southwest, cops fish all the time, they pulled me over many times, just fishing, they get bored and lonely, doesn't matter, tan, black, white, brown, whatever, just be creative with a cop, theyre not the brightest bulbs in the world...

Levar's biggest issue is that he doesn't have a balanced perspective. He tends to blame people based on outdated racial taxonomy. He wants reparations and reconstruction, but he wants it from the wrong people.

You just need to wear your visor from Star Trek, or maybe have Mr. Worf with you.

I know what he means about being profiled. I am an old, white, knuckle-walking fart, but I USED to be a goofy white teenager (ALSO profiled by law enforcement). Difference is, I just have to keep breathing for enough decades, and I will no longer be a goofy white teenager. Just an old, white, knuckle-walking fart that "falls off their radar screen". I'm sorry Levar was harrassed, I'm sure he's being honest, but what's with the double speak? Why say sorry for holding that cop responsible for the past and then tell your son, "Not if, but when."? Could it be possible incidents occur BECAUSE young black men are told the police are out to get them?

My gosh this guy needs therapy. He's always talking about racial injustice. lol. I guess money and fame don't buy happiness. I've been descriminated against by blacks, mexicans, hispanics, muslims, asians, polynesians, Jews, and arabs. I don't dwell on it, or have a chip on the shoulder about it. Just saying. Believe me white guys driving at night through ant bad area black or hispanic poor neighborhoods are seen as suspicious too. Affirmative action and liberal attitides discriminate a lot outside Orange county against whites of minorities are in charge. Most of the episodes he directed focused on a black character too. In the 80s he was an activist for black power.

Same old stuff, a lot of people think they are harrsssed by police, but their lives are on the line ever time they are on duty. We should all walk a day in a police officers shoes We would have a better idea what they go through trying to protect the public.
