Mark is enthusiastic here about those 'Lorimer' mixes but really?? I've always hated those specialised 1990 period 12" inch mixes designed for UK dance floors by the names Mark mentions. Load of crap. Did any DJs actually play those monstrosities anyway? For the record (har har) I just like the 'extended versions' 12"s....Love Games, Hot Water is actually a masterpiece.. But none of this Lorimer Mullarkey Hoopla-Mix stuff, oh god no!! Same happened with US RnB music in the 1990s. They'd include a track or even a whole bonus 12" of mixes meant to be for the UK dance style of the day. Awful. Absolutely ruining the groove and soul of the original.
Some worked, some didnt. Some dance remixes were so much better than the original track they became the most popular versions...Bobby Brown - Two Can Play That Game (K-Klass Remix), Brand New Heavies - Back To Love (Greame Park Remix), Whitney Houston - I'm Your Baby Tonight (Club Mix) & Salt-N-Pepa - Do You Want Me (Ben Liebrand European Mix) are just 4 examples off the top of my head
Dang, Mark King went from sexy pop star to looking like somebody's dad! I know he was a dad all along, but once he put on a few lbs that was the end of the sexy pop star look. 🙁
