@@trinikenshin You think that because you were young and idealistic back in the day so you saw the world as a place to discover and full of possibilities. Now, you're older and cynical so you see the world for what it is. But this earth has always been war and disease ravaged. You didn't really notice it before because you were young. But everyone gets older and their eyes open. You simply aged out of your optimism, that's all.
Takes me back to the 80’s working in Belgium and The Netherlands. Level 42 use to perform in Brussels. Happy times, only seems like yesterday. I’m 64 now, still with the same woman and I was back then.
Remember my dad had this music video recorded on video tape...I think I was 6. Spent years trying to track this song down. He passed away when I was 8. Music has the power to echo memories for a very long time.❤️
Why is it that once you start listening to these fire 80's hits, you end up binging on all 80's music for hours on RU-vid? Nothing and I mean straight up nothing will ever dominate the music, culture and fads of the 80's! So blessed to have lived and experienced the enlightening 80's. This 57 year old will always be an 80's child!
Easy to answer your question, it's because the 80's was the culmination of musical talent for talents sake. If you weren't talented you got nowhere. The 80's were also however the beginning of the end, when groups and music actually became "product". Fabricated, manufactured sounds, by companies not musicians, with front people chosen not for their talent, but their looks... their selling power. Meanwhile, backstage, talent died...
@@infinite_ammo For a '87 song the sound production is very well done. It does sound fresh, not new. Imo it sounds as if it's from the late 90s. If you listen to music released around the same time and similar genre you'll hear the difference/how 'clean' this track is. The use of below par reverb and or compression was unfortunately used on many a good song.
Level 42 at its peak. The magic of the 80s is slowly coming to an end. The 90s are getting closer and closer. The tragedy is that at that point no one knew that the last great (and possibly the best) decade of music was coming to an end. That means that I and probably millions of others simply accepted the music as "standard" at the time, which it definitely wasn't. It was “art.”
Sorry but i don't agree 80s music was real sh.. compare to the music of the 70. But maybe people were young and have good memories but musically speaking not my cup of tea
@@alaindimelow8688 I don't even want to contradict that. I think we can agree that the music didn't get any better. And today we have a really big catastrophe!
I'm not proud, I was wrong And the truth is hard to take I felt sure we had enough But our love went overboard Lifeboat lies lost at sea I've been trying to reach your shore Waves of doubt keep drowning me All the dreams that we were building We never fulfilled them Could be better, should be better For lessons in love For restless eyes egos burn And the mold is hard to break Now we've waded in too deep And love is overboard Heavy hearts token words All the hopes I ever had Fade like footprints in the sand All the homes that we were building We never lived in Could be better, should be better Lessons in love If we lose the time before us The future will ignore us We should use it, we could use it, yeah Lessons in love Lost without love Lessons in love When will you ever learn Lessons in love When there's nowhere left to turn Lessons in love Don't let your spirit burn Lessons in love I'll wait 'till you return All the dreams that we were building We never lived them We could lose it, we should use it (Lessons in love) lessons in love All the homes that we were building We never lived in Could be better (could be better), should be better Lessons in love If we lose the time before us The future will ignore us We should use it, we could use it (good god) Lessons in love
I danced to this in the clubs. Born in 1969. Danced right through the 80"s in my teens. Now 55 this year. These modern times are horrible. Too much hate. At least back then you could get into a fight and nobody would try and kill you.
@@alexishernandezramirez4938 I am very sorry for you... I know how it feels.. 😢 I wish you lots of strength.. many blessings and a big hug to you, dear!!! 🌹💖🌹

Me, too. 56 and still digging what fascinated me in the 80s. I grew up behind the Iron Curtain, but many people could work in the West and bring vinyl records, and later CDs. So we had access to almost everything that mattered in the West. Also this cool music helped us survive the gray, hopeless times of communism. We had no idea that in two or three years it would be over and we´d be free.
I remembered this song from when I was a kid in the 80s and thought it was called something else and tried combinations of what I thought the lyrics were on RU-vid 🤣🤣🤣
wow! It's cool! Level 42 was a British jazz-funk band formed in Reading, England, in 1979. The band consisted of Mark King (bass guitar, vocals), Mike Lindup (keyboards), Boon Gould (guitar), Gary Husband (drums), and Phil Gould (drums). The band's name was inspired by the level 42 in the Douglas Adams science fiction comedy series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The band's music was characterized by its complex, syncopated rhythms and its use of jazz and funk elements. Level 42 released their debut album, The Early Tapes, in 1980. The album was a commercial success, reaching number 14 on the UK Albums Chart. The band's second album, The Pursuit of Accidents, was released in 1981 and reached number 10 on the UK Albums Chart. The band's third album, True Colours, was released in 1982 and was their breakthrough album. The album reached number 1 on the UK Albums Chart and spawned the hit singles "Love Games", "The Chinese Way", and "The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up)". Level 42 continued to release successful albums throughout the 1980s, including Standing in the Light (1983), World Machine (1985), and Running in the Family (1987). What makes this song a masterpiece is the beautiful duet with King and Lindup! Most bands, even today, have just one lead singer. Level 42 had 2. Their voices are complimentary - beautiful.
this record came out the summer of 86.. i was banged up in youth custody for driving on a ban.. luckily i had a radio and this song all ways made me smile.
The music of the current generation lacks simplicity. In a good understanding. Now there are a lot of distorted vocals, antics of performers, broken rhythms. It's not bad, but sometimes you miss music like this, carrying simplicity and a noble clean charge. Thank you, respect from Siberia
@@maggiefollett636 Allot of people talk about underrated ore Overlooked!?? Nothing is overrated ore overlooked.. Maybe to the people who wright this!! Greetings from Amsterdam
I was a young kid when this song came out... I'm a musician as a old ass adult... This music video really hugely massively underplays Mark King's outstanding bass playing, this guy is a triple A* top tier! The guitar is great, but MKs bass so driving!
As I am approaching my own level 42 in less than a week, I have been listening to lots of Level 42. Definitely an underrated band, for some reason they are rarely mentioned among the great synthpop/new wave bands of their era.
my mom had a CD she always played in the car when I was in middle School and this was the first song it played. I didn't know what it said because at the time, I didn't know English but damn how did I love it, she and my little sister would sometimes sing along and I would just enjoy the ride. they were the easier times... I miss them, and I miss her.
Believe it or not, I fell in love with level42 at the age of 2! I used to wrap tape around my fingers and imitate playing bass a lot😊. I have been listening to level42 ever since I was two until now! I love it! Now I am 16 years old.

I feel bad for the young people today. I don’t belong here, neither do you. It was the best of times, and I don’t recognise the world now….so, I immerse myself in memories, because it’s where I truly belong.
We need to keep in mind this type of music was part of popular radio stations once upon a time. Really sad we now get less elaborated bands and songs. Definitely one of the greatest 80s songs.
I lost someone close to me and a few days later I had a dream that I was switching on the radio. So I did when I woke up and this song was playing. “I’ll wait till you return” and “I’ve been trying to reach your shore” in the lyrics nearly broke me. I’ll love you forever S xxx
This IS music, to dance, to enjoy, to listen, beautiful music. Generation X has lived the best part of music I think because we have danced to the influence of disco music, rock, pop and even reggae, we saw black and white tv and now we stare at a flat screen!! we have gone through it all!!! And having this beautiful videos that remind us a time of no cell phones, no internet but hand written letters and events were relationship were genuine because we met face to face, we spoke with each other.....God that need to come back somehow!!
