Me too! real world testing on video w/ chrono and clay is the proof I need. Battle Steel gets hate because the materials come from Chy-Na but truthfully, China has been making our chemicals and drugs for us for like 2 decades or more they have manufacturing/Chemical superiority to us. This is why they can sell materials cheaper. Your Iphone and Car Stereos come from Chy-na, too! These plates work.Chy-Na or not-- they work.

With a pass-through from the 4th round, I'm not convinced that the plate WOULDN'T stop that round if new. But considering the plate was most certainly compromised from previous shots/impacts, with the ceramic very much crumpled within the outer carrier material it's pretty much a given the material is being held in place solely by the outer sheath. To be fair to the manufacturer and the plate itself, try the test with a fresh and uncompromised ceramic material. Still, all in all this is a pretty interesting video and lends credence to the manufacturers claims to the effectiveness of the plate. Thanks for your efforts.
@ВиталийВасильев-м5ж
Some manufacturers of Level IV plates claim 'multi hit' feature, which is theoretically allows to withstand up to 5 rounds. But if bullets were sanded in the same ceramic tile crater it could show dramatically different results even with non AP bullets. I think that over 5 rounds is too much and not fair for monolithic tile plates because they 'spider net' crack from first round, unless you decide to honeycomb it for fun.

I wonder if it would stop the M993 on the first hit, I mean it stopped the over spec M2AP at nearly 3,100 fps
@AdotLOM
@AdotLOM 3 года назад
Probably not. He got a fair hit with it, and for what it's worth UHMWPE cores don't like tungsten AT ALL due to their high hardness. I think he did a test on a level III+ UHMWPE standalone plate, and a hot 9x19mm tungsten AP round (Bundeswehr service ammo, DM91) went clean through. It only hit at about 1600fps, but the high hardness really helped it there. I guess it goes to show why most high-end plates are ceramic/UHMWPE composite, but even then that doesnt help when the round has high power too (like with M993). This does make me wonder, however, why the Germans designed the 9x19mm DM91 round in the 1990's. It still didn't have the power to make it through the ceramic plates that were currently available (which would not have been as weak to a tungsten core as UHMWPE plates are), and of course they didn;t have UHMWPE plates back then either. So the round was too weak to go through plates in use back then, the UHMWPE plates we have now didn;t exist back then for a tungsten core to exploit the weakneses of, and for penetrating kevlar and other aramid materials tungsten doesn't make a difference and what you'd really want is speed (excess of ~2000fps). Something to think about...

12:30 While being safer than uncoated steel plate, the fragments coming off this plate look more dangerous to the wearer than what comes off of a rhino lined steel plate. Do you think a plate carrier would stop most of those fragments? They appear to be ceramic plate fragments rather than bullet fragments so hopefully a good plate carrier would catch a lot of that. The fragments look bad enough to take out your arms or perhaps case catastrophic bleeding if you were holding a rifle in front of you. Plate carriers stop only the tiniest lead bullet fragments for uncoated steel plates, they don't really help. Interestingly, because these ceramic plates appear to crater and spit ceramic forward in a cone pattern they appear to create less risk of the deadly "ricochet to the jaw" that wearing uncoated steel entails. Please try putting this plate in a plate carrier then put the plate carrier inside a cardboard box before shooting it. I'd like to know whether these fragments penetrate the cardboard and roughly where they impact. Thanks
@aleksfoxtrot8044
@aleksfoxtrot8044 4 года назад
That's only because the first shot was close to the edge. But yes it is a danger with ceramic plates. I doubt it would cause anything more and a superficial wound though. If the round hits near the center of the plate there shouldn't be any fragments coming out of the sides of the plate or carrier.

You're still going to get fragments/spalling off the plate, but typically those are ceramic fragments. Ceramic is One and done if you put hits next to each other. Put your rounds .25 inches apart like you can with steel. Setting up the test to allow the plate to perform without showing hits that are close, shows there is no confidence in ceramic. Stack your shots, like you can with steel and that will be impressive. You also peove hits near the edge and the plate will fail.
@BuffRANGE
@BuffRANGE 3 года назад
Possible. Depends on how the plate is designed. If the NIJ felt that stacking rounds was a concern, they would update the hit placement protocol. They still maintain a min of 2" per shot when testing.

@@BuffRANGE after watching the video, doubting it would stop a 2nd. Seems to be the benefit to steel, can shoot it all day with anything but magnum rounds, and the trade off to the weight. But it would be interesting to see shots not placed in a "clean" section of the plate to see if it is 1 and done. If I ever need it, I hope the "bad guy" realizes they have to obey the rules and follow the NIJ standard and ensure their shots are at least 3" apart.
