Get the LEVEL lawn you always wanted with this easy to follow LEVEL lawn FIX we use 70/30 top dressing to remove micro undulations aswell as sow some new seed to thicken up our new level lawn #Levellawnfix #bumpylawnfix #topdress
Hi Daniel, why do you sand and in another video, you used compost. I’m currently redoing my lawn and need to fill in some dips to. Then reseed. I do have some top soil dug out from the patio job. If I weave that, could it be used to filling the dips or top dressing after seed. Any advice appreciated. Thank you
If lawns in good nick to start them Late march April but due to drought we left this one till now to concentrate on the main lawn, its all in the watering
Hi Daniel. Fantastic videos and great lawns ! I’ve been teaching myself from the last few years and get some great comments on my lawn but like yourself I have really high expectations and love the football so Johnson’s premier pitch is for me too so I’m thinking of killing my grass off with weed killer as Id love to have the above and I have a front lawn that has 2 small trees and a thin web of roots underneath the turf. My question is if I rip it all up to lay Johnson’s premier pitch lawn seed how far do I have to dig down to remove all the root rubbish and start again with top soil ? The back is similar with no trees but thin roots too. Thanks in advance 👍
You wanna get as many roots up as possible but be mindful that they will grow back and probably faster as your feeding the lawn the tree roots will take it up, id definately ideally wanna be 6inches of soil but some of my lawns theres in some places 3, Why not try a dwarf rye, im moving away from premier pitch, youll get the same colour and plant species but wont need cutting as much, my next two videos im using limigrain mm50, like wimbledon do, will give me a rye surface but wont be as needy as wont grow as tall, and disease tolerance is better, boston utds new ground uses it so you still get the football look, Remember also ive been doing lawns for 25 years if not more so even though we may have the same bag of seed our end results may differ, my lawns dont come out of the bag , they come from want, passion and perseverence! Like no point doing it then going away for 2 week and leaving it to grow, its a dedication its a commitment and its like having baby that never grows up! Good luck on your lawn journey and be sure to follow my new videos in the coming weeks when the temps rise and send photo updates!!
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert I’ll have a look at the dwarf rye and thanks for the detailed reply. I’ll take any advice you can spare. Completely understand that it’s a passion and results don’t come from the bag, I’m looking for perfection every day, the wife thinks I look after the lawn more than I do her. The fact that I get thin roots now is probably down to the fact that it’s fed and looked after well, so if the very thin string like roots are going to come back anyway shall I just kill of the grass and go from there with a thin layer of topsoil with the seed you mentioned ?
@@stenchosmells Yeah i have plants and bushes that have just crept into the lovely fresh depth of soil, it doesnt kill the grass theres just more competition for water so i gotta water alot more, in my next job as theres a bit of depth im lining the floor with fleece to stop worms coming up so maybe it could work with roots? But there would have to be good depth of soil to do this as it would just dry the lawn out if it was near the surface
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Look forward to watching ! So roots don’t hurt the grass as there all Underneath the surface so effectively I could just kill it off, topsoil and sow my beautiful pitch. I’d love a day of knowledge with you pal ! The pitch you did looks so green so assuming that’s part of the seed itself plus lots of iron ?
Jonny Armour, hands and knees n dig it out mostly after scarifying as it easy to see as its white and got a claw like appearence, primo just suppresses what ive missed
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert cheers mate. I've got a few lawns i look after that I'd like to convert to a pure rye mix but due to trees within the lawn and surrounding shade etc I haven't made the jump. Tend throw in a higher quality rye fescue mix
I do its pretty bleak come the winter , without artificial lighting it will always be this way, worm casts are the big issue, leaves to as i dont get paid to move them off everyday so they sit there for a week at most
If you top dress so much, won't that raise the level, year in and year out? Then you end up with ultimately a step to the grass? Or is this a silly question?
@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Thanks for getting back to me, ok cool. That's good, then as I just ordered a few 100 meters worth, so will still use it. I literally just ordered x2 tons of topsoil from Rowlan, but should I have ordered top dressing instead? Maybe I should have bought one ton of each? I am scarifying and then overseeding. What is the difference? I have applied iron sulphate so will be ready to scarify in a week and lay seed etc. Also do you come out to Nottingham, or too far? I don't think I can keep up the maintenance every year. lol.
The horrid German word "Vertikutierer" is simply a Germanised version of the English 'Verti-Cut' there is no differentiation between a vertical cutter and scarifier in common use German. Thomas Mascaro introduced the first veritical mower, the Verti‐Cut in 1955
