Love the way u did that. I’m actually thinking about doing it to one I have. Question though. How sturdy is the booster up top. In other words does it still work and last today. Lol
Still works great, actually just did this exact mod to my buddies transmitter. The reason I did it like this is allows me to just use an antenna if I don’t require the booster. I have all the parts I used for this mod linked in the video description. Cheers 🍻
Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend trying to splice it. I would suggest practicing to solder before attempting this mod as it was very small connection points to solder to and honestly was a bit challenging for me as well.
Couldn’t you just connect the booster to the existing antenna instead of soldering directly to the board? What would be the benefit of soldering to the board as opposed to connecting to the existing antenna?
I thought the same at first when I first did these type of mods about 5 years ago. Someone made a comment suggesting not to solder to the existing antenna as it may cause interference and not work correctly so I just always just removed the old and soldered the new antenna directly to the board
@@Van_City i was going to say solder to the existing antenna wire . Cut the transmitters white antenna wire instead of desoldering it from the board and solder the booster cable to it . Its easier to solder the wire ends together than to solder onto the board .
@@gregorydahl I’ve always just soldered directly to the board. But yeah if it doesn’t cause any issues or interference you’re right it is easier to solder to the wire
I’ve taken drones over 1km when they were only getting 200 meters prior to this mod. It works with nearly all transmitters expect Traxxas TQI transmitters
Booster won’t turn on unless the transmitter gets power. Doesn’t matter if it’s the same battery as the transmitter or separate. It only turns on when the antenna receives power as well as the booster
Hi do you know how to do this to the new Traxxas TQI remotes . The Tqi does not have an external antenna. Just two metal copper plates on a pcb board for a 2.4 ghz antenna . Would you do this upgrade on a TQi . If I were to send you my tqi to you and pay you to install a booster . Thanks .
You would need to determine the power of the internal antenna. If you can sort that out you’ll be in business. Sorry I’d like to help you but I’m not really able to take on any projects at the moment

I’m certain it should be better than a stock setup. I’ve only really used this mod for range without any serious obstructions. It’s rated for up to 15v which I would think if powered up at 15v the penetration should be sufficient.
Does this power on before being hooked to the antenna board? I’m not getting a light when I out power to it and I do t wanna pull the transmitter apart and still not receive power?!?!
