Great video! 👍 I have almost the same truck. 2020, 6.2 and same color. Ready lift 1.75 level kit and ready to buy tires and wheels. You just sold me on the 295/70R18 Mickey Thompson. Exactly the look I'm going for. Thank you for doing your video.
yup looks like im going with a level kit and 295/70/18 for my trail boss, thanks for showing the lift kit and mod to the mud flap bracket. it is super helpful! Do you have a link to the wheel spacer? I have a 7ft garage door opening and im planning to park inside after the lift and bigger tires. Do you park yours inside and you think mine will fit with the same mods? Thanks again John!
Thanks for the comment. I don’t have a link for the 3/8” wheel spacer, it’s something my 4wd shop put on they are pretty common, but you my not need it depending on what upper control arms and tires you end up getting. The Zone UCA’s are a lot larger then stock and also my tires have the big side bitters, so the spacers were added just to be safe. I haven’t measured the height for garage parking since my wife’s car goes in there, but you can check your stock height and add about an inch more for the bottom of the tire and 1.5” - 2” more for the level. Good luck!
Yup! On a trailboss anything over pretty much a half inch of lift in the front means you have to do control arms, they're already almost maxed out from the factory. I run the same wheels on a lt Allstar edition with a 2.5 level kit in front and 2 inch blocks in back. I run 33x12.5r18 tires with no spacers, it's tight but I don't have any signs of touching the upper ball joint. 33x12.5r18 is about an inch in total diameter smaller, but also a full inch wider than your tires, I don't rub anywhere. Mybtruck is the same color as yours, it's an LT Allstar edition so it has the chrome grill, mirror caps and bumpers and body color door handles where yours are black, otherwise looks almost identical.
@@Dumbass_mechanic RC said stock UCAs were to be used and not to replace them.....its only 1.5".....really its 1.25"....its right on their website and the angles look fine. 🤷♂️
@@Bruins77Fan a trailboss and an LT Allstar have the same suspension grom the factory, only the trailboss has a longer strut body tube, adding 2 inches of lift already. If you add 3 inches to a non trailboss, that is the threshold at which you are supposed to change the control arms. On a trailboss, you've already taken up 2 of those 3 inches from the factory, so you only have another inch to play with before you've reached the capacity of the upper control arm, due to the ball joint angle. If you add a 1.5" kit, then you're actually now at 3.5" over a non trailboss, and so you're passed the advisable capacity of the upper ball joint. If you've done it, and you're happy with your ball joint angle, then just keep an eye that you don't wear out the ball joint prematurely and have it come apart. At the end of the day... its your truck, do whatever you want to it, but be safe.
John, I have the same truck just with 20" wheels and a Ready Lift Level. Plan on running 285/65/20 in the same tire. The specs/true size from MT seem to almost be identical to your 295/70/18. Do you think I will have any problem running them? Also, did you have plenty of thread left using the 3/8 spacer? About how many lug nut turns did you have before they were tight. I think it is recommended to have at least 8 for safety. Any feedback is appreciated!
I have the 18” wheels and Zone UCA’s, so I don’t know how the fitment will go with 20” wheels / Ready Lift set up. As far as the 3/8” spacers, my local 4 wheel drive shop told me that GM trucks have long enough wheel studs that a 3/8” spacer is not a problem. 48,000 miles now - no issues.
awesome looking truck, thanks for sharing !... i have the same truck but in black ... question, did the tire rub because of the leveling kit or because you install larger tires ? Thanks John cheers
I’m doing a ReadyLift SST 2.0 front lift 35x11.5R20 Recon Grapplers with 1/2 spacers in a couple days on my 2022 Trail Boss. You still liking the Baja tires ?
Can ask how much u paid for u truck ? I looking for one and is 64k . I don’t know if wait maybe price will go dawn at little….. another question, can you fit same tires dimensions with out the lift ?
How does this truck ride? I have a very mint musky built 2016 cummins with 16,000 miles but i’m looking to down grade if you will and get a nice half ton pick up. Had a raptor and it was great, rode like a dream and felt so planted and great on the interstate. Liking these trail bosses and would go for this exact look. Wanting to know how she rides?
Rides great. Much better than my 3/4 ton trucks in the past. The 18” wheels instead if 20’s also helps ride quality. Its the perfect truck for my needs.
@@johnlorenzo9930 @johnlorenzo9930 wow!! That is very impressive! Would love to see what they look like with 50k on them. Some tire look and ride awful after wear. They wear unevenly also. Thanks for the feedback!
I've been doing my research on 295/70/r18 tires for my own Trail Boss Custom as far as how they would fit and this is exactly what I was looking for. I've been looking at some Toyo Open Country's. I have the 2-inch ReadyLift lift kit for the Trail Boss/AT 4. Do you think a full 1 inch spacer would be better as far as the fit is concerned? Those ReadyLift control arms are massive and much like yourself I'm looking to reuse the factory rims
I am pretty sure that if you want to go with a bigger wheel spacer you need to get the hub centric bolt on spacer that have the lugs installed on them as opposed to the slip on spacer that I used which uses your trucks own lugs. If go go with a bolt on spacer I think at least a 1.5” - 1.75” spacer or else your trucks original lugs will stick out out too far through the holes on the spacers and hit the back of your wheels. (It’s kind of hard to picture but hopefully you know what I am trying to say), and I didn’t want my wheels to poke out that far. Also, with the wheels out that far you will clear your UCA’s better, but you may have tire clearance issues in other areas of the wheel well liner when turning. Also, I don’t want to tell you what tires to get, but I have had the Toyo AT2’s and Toyo AT3’s on a previous truck (you can see my f150 video) and both version were great in the dirt but I wasn’t happy with the wet road traction. For my Trail Boss, I was originally going to get Falken Wildpeaks since people seem to really like them a lot, but they were on national back order so my 4wd shop recommended the Mickey Thompson’s Baja Boss at’s that I ended up with and I absolutely love them.
I have the Ready Lift with 35/12.5/R18 and an 1.25 spacer. My shop said that for the ready lift you need a larger spacer. 1” - 2” will work according to them.
Thanks. At the time I bought it there wasn’t much selection to choose from and couldn’t even find a 6.2 near me. I have owned a 5.3 in a previous truck and it was a good engine, so hopefully this one is the same.
Do you think a larger wheel spacers would help or hurt the fitment? I have the same trail boss wheels on my leveled LT and planning going with the same size tires here soon but I also plan on adding 1.5" spacers to get a more aggressive stance. I'm just worried if the larger spacer will cause rubbing at the outside corners of my wheel wells.
I’m looking to put a 20x9 rim on my trail boss with 33x12.5r20 tires on a 1.75 inch level kit. The rims I’m putting on it are at 1mm offset. Does anyone know if I will have any fitment issues?
The 3/8 spacer still left enough threads on the stock lugs?I knew 1/4s worked fine, but was not sure how much thread would be left on the lugs using a 3/8 slip on spacer.
Hmmm. Looks good. I went with 295/70 R18 with a "1" offset wheels on my 2021 GMC Sierra AT4 (6.2L). I also removed that fender well bracket and had to do some trimming (not bad). No lift/level/no rubbing. But, I am going to have some Bilstein 5100 adjustable front struts put in soon. They can give up to 1.1" of leveling vs doing what you did. The front suspension geometry and CV axles are not affected (had them on my last truck too with 1.8" up setting.
I haven’t used 4wd auto. I have had it in 4hi and 4low without any issues. From what I have read the problem with 4wd auto (at least as far as the ReadyLift 2” kit is concerned) is caused by it shifting in and out of 4wd at higher speeds.
Hello John, I’m looking at this same kit for my 22 TB. I don’t like the back lower, On the Zone website in the notes for this kit it states to use only the thin pre-load spacer for a more level look on the TB. Is that what you did? Thanks
I have the 5.3 as well and want to do something similar but am worried it’ll make the power feel sluggish.. did you notice any acceleration loss at all?
I’m sure that I have lost some acceleration but I wouldn’t say it’s sluggish. There is going to be a trade-off such as less MPG or some acceleration, but it has gained better handling, off road capability, and it looks better.
@@johnlorenzo9930 I just remember an old lifted 5.3 Chevy my buddy had that felt like a 4 banger trying to get up to highway speed. But sounds like that is not the case at all with this modest of a lift. Thanks man!
Awesome, thank you for the reply… I’m getting the same size tire installed next week on my trail boss. I went with the falken wildpeak! I’ve been researching different tire sizes and yours looks the best in my opinion. I like the stick rims as well so that’s what I’m going with. Thanks for the videos
