We all age and look different, but a good voice stays a good voice. Marcs unique vocals still sounds like ithey did in the 90s. My favourite ginger dread locked friend (jeremy) is missing here. I know these guys and loved going to Metway parties. Jeremy is a mate. Actually I like to think of them all as friends. I always felt welcome by them all. Although I was a bit shy around Marc. He was one of the coolest geezers I met in Brighton. The reason was nothing to do with him personally. It was his voice. I can sing but marks voice is special and in the 90s i seen him as a star and I'm embarrassed to say. I think I used to be slightly starstruck in his company. Stupid I know. I still wish I was blessed with that voice. All the levellers are special and there music is unmistakable. I need to catch up on alot there music. I heard 3 boys lost the other night and was happy to hear there still doing there thing. I wander if they need a backing vocalist who is great with a tambourine and can throw the odd rap in over the violinist. lol. Respect. Levellers are legends even to a drum and bass junglist legend like me.
When you're standing by the road side And it's a long way to go Oh to carry me To carry me Carry me Carry me friend Oh to carry me And together in this mad land Far from the truest of hands Well I'll carry you If you'll carry me Carry me Carry me friend Oh carry me And we'll patrol bomb the state We blow away the hate But we'll do it in our mind If we can take the time We build ourselves a road From what we know Each take our parts But now's the time to start Oh yeah it is Oh we must be Oh we must be Oh we must be But Jane is takin' heroin And Paul is getting pissed Steve is getting stoned And to fucked to fight Sara's on the acid And Sean has blown his mind Someone's busy hiding To fucked to fight Yeah some have found religion And some…
saw em at Lincoln 4 years ago, doing the Leveling the Land Tour 20th Anniversary. 8 quid for a mug, 20 quid a T-shirt! had my camera confiscated by security! The band played perfect but no interaction with the crowd WHATSOEVER! So much for the sentiment but real life and mortgages must have got in the way eh lads! Dead Kennedys did a song which summed up my feelings after seeing them "Anarchy for Sale"!
That's a real shame. I've seen them live a few times and the vibe has been amazing every time. Some venues are more informal though. I think when you're an artist and you're playing the same stuff over and over for literally decades, you are bound to lose the love, and do it like a job. I mean, Jesus, they've been gigging since the nineties, almost non stop. They've certainly stayed true for longer than many bands.
k mc I saw them when i was 18 - so about 21 years ago at the UEA in Norwich. Performance wise - perfect, couldn't fault them. But they were effing pricks. Wouldn't do autographs, really foul to the fans. Some girl of about 14/5 was lucky enough to find a drumstick the drummer had lost. She held it out and asked him to autograph it and he snatched it off her and told her "that belongs to me, now f*ck off". I'll never ever forget that til the day i die. Went right off them after that.
zeldagoblin "stayed truer for longer" - you mean failed to have the courage to split up when they realised their glory days were over? I gave up with them after the tragedy that was their self titled album from 1993.
This year's Beautiful Days festival was a fabulous party. They were really accessible, warm, funny - reminiscent of Brighton back in the 80s. Also saw them in Exeter Cathedral about 5 yrs ago. Mark was on really good form - absolutely brilliant!
Agree. It was my first Beautiful Days and I've lost count of how many times I've seen them but this time they seemed better, more interaction and a brilliant vibe.
anyone know where i can get hold of the harmonica blow and draw tabs for this songs as would love to learrn this one . ive search the internet like crazy but no site has it . . . any help would be great thanks people ?
Although part of me agrees with you, you are actually really wrong, if you want to listen to some great local small bands from the uk, message me. No synth shit, just pure instruments, passion and folk punk spirit.
