All these pellet carbon filters can be placed on the sun(when the sun is highest in the sky) for two hours to recharge them. I do it once a month. If you smell the pellet side of the filter and it stinks then it is time to recharge. You can defenitely tell the difference afterwards. You can do this several times during the year until you notice that the sun no longer makes a difference, then it is time to throw it away.

In the manual for the Winix 5500-2 they mention cleaning the carbon filters that come with that device and then leaving to try but don't mention the Sun - maybe they should!

I just discovered you today via Adam Conover’s recent video (How Google RUINED the Internet). Because I had just purchased a large room air purifier on the 24th of this month after reading about various ones, I was thrilled to learn about your site and had to check it out. So I popped over and found the article about the best air purifiers to buy in 2024 (posted on the 24th, to my amusement) and lo and behold! -The very air purifier I purchased was listed as the top pick for large spaces! The Levoit Core 600S. Phew! I did good. And I must say, after leaving the Levoit 600S running for 6 hours in the basement I went down there and the air was CRISP! I had taken out the smaller air purifier that had been there (a BlueAir Pure 511, which is ok and now lives in my office, but is made for smaller spaces and it is also a PAIN to change the pre-filters and main filters on - so much so, I won’t be getting another like it.) I’m so glad you’re out here doing the work. Thank you. New subscriber! I’ll be letting others know about your site and videos.

Glad our pick aligned with the unit you decided on! I'm no the biggest fan of blueair purifiers as they force you to use the ionizers but they can be effective and good sound levels/efficient.Good idea to look for devices that make cleaning the per-filter easier as you need to keep on top it to keep a good level of performance. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience, it was surreal to see our site being mentioned on Adams video. Thanks for sharing our site and videos 🙏

Awesome review. I have a feeling Levoit will earn back the HEPA term. I just bought this and am super impressed with it. Also like how the carbon filter is behind the HEPA as I think it may make the carbon last longer.

Will most likely be buying this one today. We returned the Shark yesterday. On day one a cat could poop and it would suck the smell out of the air but two weeks later it was doing the opposite.

Before you buy you might want to also look at the WInix 5500-2 as its probably better for odors then the Vital 200S. Instead of a bonded filter with carbon and particle, it has separate washable carbon filters which might provide you more help with your use case. I was planning to get the review up this week but might be slightly delayed but I have the written review here: housefresh.com/winix-5500-2-review/ Which Shark device did you find didn't live up to your expectations?

@@HouseFresh WOW! Thanks! Will read. Shark Never Change 650 SQ FT. Bought it at Best Buy so it had two week return policy. At the beginning I could feel it dramatically shifting the quality of the air as I sat or slept. I actually threw away the box because I was convinced it was a keeper. But overtime I was doubting its ability to keep same level of performance. Also was questioning the value of the fragrance insert. Am I paying extra for this option? I mean I don’t have to use it or buy future fragrance pods but maybe another purifier, that offers less, will be more focused. NOTE what started this shopping in purifiers was major construction in the next door apartment. Odors coming in through the wall.

Is the non-HEPA rated filter on this device inferior? I need a high-quality filter. Should I consider or reject the filter in this or the Everest model and look at other brands?
@HouseFresh
@HouseFresh 4 дня назад
The filters are not HEPA graded filters as originally marketed but will likely be a lowe grade like H11 or H12. But this is not actually a bad thing for a device like this as lower grade HEPA can still remove all particles and can actually be more effective as they allow more airflow vs H13. But it's not a good look for Levoit as I would prefer they be upfront about the HEPA grade from day 1.

Thanks for all the effort you put into these reviews Danny, greatly appreciated. I was planning on getting the Vital 100s but I'm concerned that CADR is based on highest fan speed. If noise is a concern would it make sense to get the 200s and run it at a lower speed to get the same cleaning power as the 100 on high?
@HouseFresh
@HouseFresh 22 дня назад
Thanks for the kind words! Sorry I didn't make it clearer in the original review but yes I would if you can get the 200S and run it quieter for the same power as the 100. I just know some people don't want a device as big as 200S but if you can do it, then that would be my recommendation.

I just got mine 4 days ago and everything was fine, I left the door open last night for a breeze and mid day I noticed that the ring was red, I turned it to auto and it’s slowly clearing up. Question will a humidifier in the same room interfere with the air quality ring on the air purifier?
@HouseFresh
@HouseFresh 2 дня назад
A humidifier with tap water will activate your sensor as there are small amounts of minerals in the water. I think using distilled water should help but haven’t had a chance to test. My wife’s nebulizer also sets off all the air purifiers when she has to use it

It’s unfortunate I cannot return it,,, but I am gonna ask for a replacement. Pd,, seems this issue is happening with the vital 100 and vital 200. I would have liked to buy an Austin HM plus,,, but in Europe are sold as Allermed c50+ and they cost 1400 € damnit,,, far too expensive As usual thanks for your help Danny honestly you have helped me a lot 👍

Hi. I have a question. The levoit you tested removed pm1 particles in 21 minutes but I've read online that if the filter is brand new it actually, to begin with, adds pollutants to the room to begin with because it is off gassing but in your test it removed them without adding, in 21 minutes. I'm wondering what your thoughts are on that. Also, I have a levoit core 300 with a new toxin filter. Do you know if the levoit core 300 can remove pm1 particles? I would be grateful for a reply. Thank you 👍
@HouseFresh
@HouseFresh 5 месяцев назад
Maybe it releases some gasses but not particulates. If you look at the test video you will see it does remove all PM1 in a room of 728 cubic feet in 21 minutes so yes does work for particles this size. I haven’t noticed any off gassing with new filters.

Can you do me a huge favor? I'm trying to decide between this and the Winix 5500. I know you own both units can and will you please run a radiation test (EMF) on both units especially with the WiFi on and off. I read a review that said not to get the Vital 200s for 2 reasons. 1 it still puts out WiFi frequency even when turned off. And 2 it has a really high radiation levels almost as much as a microwave. This test would definitely help me make a decision. I want as little radiation as possible in my home. Please and thank you 😊

I don't have an EMF monitor, but I will get one for future reviews. I did look at the amount of energy used in standby for both. Levoit Vital 200S: 0.97 watts Winix 5500-2: 0.34 watts So I would assume that the Vital 200S is giving out more EMF as it is drawing more power when not using the fans?

5:40 Actually it's very tricky or rather sneaky. They say this on their website: "Levoit Original Filter is HEPA-grade while operating in Sleep Mode, as tested by an independent lab." So it's only HEPA, when operated in sleep mode. 😅 There's also also marketing video on Levoit official RU-vid channel and while they don't say it, they show filter in this device as 3 separate elements (pre, carbon and HEPA). Seems like they employ all kinds of shady practices.
@HouseFresh
@HouseFresh 4 месяца назад
When I did this video the term HEPA was still on their website and now it’s removed. I wish Levoit would make a public statement as it’s really not a good look. It’s weird they say that it’s HEPA when on sleep mode as the HEPA grade is for the filter and wouldn’t be different for a specific speed so very strange.
@1stRanger
@1stRanger 4 месяца назад
@@HouseFresh Yes, it would if it's not true HEPA. It means filter can handle small particles at low airflow, but fail when airflow increases. So I think Dyson was right to call them out on their BS. But even after that Levoit keeps their shady marketing BS and instead of removing HEPA rating altogether they add this note that most people will likely miss or won't understand what it means.

I’d like to get an air purifier for my daughter’s bedroom. She was allergy tested to be severely allergic to dust mites and highly allergic to dogs. We were told to get a Hepa air filter and I know there’s been controversy about these filters. Is this still a good choice for someone with these types of allergies.i do not want anything that uses ionization. Any other recommendations?
@HouseFresh
@HouseFresh 4 месяца назад
So these are not HEPA grade but they will still remove the particles from the air that cause allergies from dust/dogs. There is a really good video on here that goes into detail here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gaQTYrisieA.htmlsi=Ejt3ZO-tSzXV3No2 From testing this device it was able to remove tiny particles and was much cheaper than many other devices that were slower , so this makes it our top choice for this year. If your daughter’s bedroom is very large (over 360 sq ft) you might need a larger device with a higher cadr score. Some other devices that don’t use ionization and are HEPA grade filters would be the SmartAir SA600 housefresh.com/smart-air-sa600-review/ Or Alen Flex: housefresh.com/alen-breathesmart-flex-review/ The Vital 200S was much faster at removing particles than these but they are still good devices to consider. If you give me more detail and I can provide more suggestions.
@Canuckrz
@Canuckrz 16 дней назад
Honestly that removable plug is almost entirely a con for me with how they've done it, not a pro. That brick acts as a power supply for the unit which takes up a bunch more outlet space, and if your cord gets damaged you're hooped unless Levoit sells replacements. If the cord gets damaged on a standard cable its relatively easy so just replace the end. Ideally they would have the cable be removable via one of the various standards, and keep the power supply built into the unit itself.
@HouseFresh
@HouseFresh 15 дней назад
I never though about it like but can see how a removal plug could also be a downside. I could get behind a standardized power cable with PSU inside the device. One of the benefits of the PC fan type devices as they all use the same cable and as they are low power don't need much of a power supply.

@HouseFresh
@HouseFresh 5 месяцев назад
Sorry for late reply 😞 I was talking about this recently. Many companies have the carbon at the back but I did notice that smart air has the carbon on the opposite side.
