I took levothyroxine for years. I complained about hair loss and loss of eyebrow hair, as well as palpitations. He switched me to synthroid and my hair loss stopped! I now have full eyebrows!!! Yay! The palpitations are the same though. I haven’t lost any weight. That’s a bummer. My dosage is 125mcg
Levothyroxine has saved my life. It took away all of my depression that I’ve had for 26 years of pure hell within one hour. I feel great everyday because of it. I found out from my doctor that I had low thyroidism, a disease that I inherited from my late mother.
Jose Lopez I really don’t know how low thyroidism is developed other then how I got it. Check your heart one every 6 months because I read online that it can also masquerade as heart disease.
I am having my eyes operated on Cataracts removed, I don’t know if the same kind of eye problem people have with low thyroid I just found out like 4 months ago, after one month I felt great I was getting up and doing things which I haven’t done in for ever saw the doctor said OK let’s give her a little more and he did and I’m back to square one😥
I cannot fault this; I’m certain it saved my life despite a plethora of incompetent doctors! I was diagnosed at 16 purely by chance as my depression was the main symptom. However I was not told to come back or get checked! It was re-discovered around 37 as all the symptoms you have mentioned and it took a locum to diagnose it! What a bunch of characters!
I think you are being kind to the medical profession. I provided a roadmap of symptoms to my cast of practitioners. They were clueless. And unwilling to recognize my symptoms were real. Incompetency only begins to explain my doctor experience. I’m glad you are doing better.
I am so sorry you went through that! I've dealt with depression on and off for close to 20 years. I was diagnosed with severe reoccurring depressive disorder several years ago. Also, I just got diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I'm going to get the script later today. Can't help but wonder how much the thyroid issue has contributed to the depression. I'm trying to find out what I should expect from the medicine cause I didn't get to talk to my doctor about this. They found out about the hypothyroidism after my doctor appointment and ended up calling me a couple days later about it. So I'll have to wait to talk to him til my appointment next month. So I'm resorting to RU-vid for now. What did you guys notice from the medicine? What did it do and how did it make you feel?
There are certain foods to avoid 30 minutes after taking this thyroid such as soy products, strawberries, etc. Can you elaborate on the dietary precautions while taking this medication?
I'm 16 and I've been taking levothyroxine almost every single day for 3 years because I have hashimoto's. I've had no problems with this medication at all, It hasn't changed me one bit and according to my doctor its helped my thyroid a ton
have you checked if it converts T4 in T3? levo is giving me lots of anxiety, I have hashimoto thyroiditis as well but I am 29 and started a few months ago
I have hypothyroidism. I did not suffer from any symptoms, but by chance, during a routine examination, a high cholesterol level was discovered in me. The suspicion was that it was due to hypothyroidism. Indeed, after examining the gland, it was found that the condition improved a lot and the cholesterol level was normalized after taking thyroxine.
I don’t have a choice. I don’t take it, I hemorrhage. I had thyroid removed because of cancer. I have twitching , itching, chills and always cold, hair loss, depression , anxiety. I’m a modern Job.
Same here, I had mine removed due to cancer. I have to use a lot of willpower and regiment tasks to manage my body and emotions now. Once mine was removed, I told people it felt like my "inhibitor" was taken off.
It was a seizure med that caused my thyroid problem in the first place, it also caused much of my hair to fall out and weight to double. My doctor refused to change my medication and it cost me my gall bladder and appendix in the first year. I've been suffering the consequences for over thirty years.
I read that you should be taking 1.6 - 2.0 mcg Levothyroxine per KG of body weight. If that is so, at 94 kg, I should be be taking 150 mcg. My Dr. started me with 25 mcg and I, on my own, bumped it up to 50 mcg. What is the correct dosage paradigm?
My hair fell out all over my body, puffy eyes, poor digestive, dry scaly skin, stopped sweating. I was a wreck until I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Meds have reversed all side effects and I feel alive again!😁💪
I suffered a lot of the symptoms without knowing that I have subclinical hypothyroidism. But here’s the problem now: when I first started taking the Levothyroxine pills I felt much much better first week, I’m not bloated anymore I have energy and my sex drive is back and even my nose is not congested anymore, however after the first good week, some of the symptoms back. Did anyone had the same problem?
Yes! Ask your Doctor to check your Free T3 and Free T4 levels as well as TSH to make sure yur body is properly converting the Levothyroxine properly. You can feel bad again after a week when your body isn't processing the meds into what you need. You may need to take Cytomel (T3) along side the other meds.
@@beckyd712 thank you for the reply, my T3 is normal now. However I still don’t feel as good as I felt the first week started taking the medication. My TSH is good and my T3 as well. It’s just very weird thing that even doctors couldn’t understand the issue.
Same. First few weeks felt great, probably because I was so unwell. But unfortunately it didn’t last, I still have all the old symptoms, just not as bad, but still feel like crap all the time.
I have thyroxine for hashimotos. It has stopped me from dying a terrible death but quality of life has never recovered. I dont think I can change it to T3. I have liver problems too so this might be why but the doctor isnt interested as the blood test they do on NHS says its within range..
I hate the lost of hair .I have lost hair all over I take 150 .I haven’t had to shave for 30 years That fine .but on my hair on my head so awful .my hair has to be fixed a certain way or you can see bald spots.
I have been taking. Levothyroxine 80 Mcg. And omg I’m cold then I’m ok. After I get really sad. And empty inside I have no explanation for it. It’s like I have to force a smile out of me. And I have gain weight something that is making me sad. About it. It fells like I have been running for along time. Bcs I lose my breath even when I’m talking and that’s embarrassing. And I’m so tired. All the time. What should I do. 😢
I took care of my mother the last 10 years of her life. When we changed Doctors and he did a blood test. He ask me why my Mother was on thyroid meds. I said I didn't know for sure but they were given to her by last doctor. So he took her off them. For the next month my Mother couldn't stay awake during the day. When we went for her next appointment I told the doctor what was happening and her put her back on the meds. Within a week she was normal again. The blood test showed she didn't need them. So much for blood tests I guess.
Thanks for your information very usefull I am experiencing mild to severe headaches while I am on a low dose of levolhyroxine 25 mcg I am beginning to be concern
I work in a Dr's surgery dispensary, I have't come across anyone on such a huge dose of 400mcg a day, might be worth having a conversation with your prescriber.
@@briancorcoran9888 I don't know...all I know is that when I stop taking I become miserable, and when I am taking it I feel MUCH better. It also took a couple of years to get to this dose. He was increasing my doses very slowly and I was getting pretty frustrated as it never seemed to do anything for me until we got to this current dose.

So on occasion, I will forget to take my medicine first thing and then when I remember I’ve had coffee and or oranges.should I just forget about it or take it, it’s very hard, waiting an hour after taking this medicine, lol I have my phone set at 6 AM to take the medicine
I have narcolepsy, bipolar disorder and hypothyroidism. I’ve been on tertroxin T3 for 15 years because I have poor tolerance to thyroxine. New doc says Levo is a new formulation. I’ll give it a try but not expecting much. Btw, this med is expensive in Australia, don’t know why
I was allergic to it so had to get Armor Thyroid. Allergic to aspirin and other manmade items. Can’t eat Soy it will send me into a diarrhea frenzy, I can’t eat at most restaurants or fast food places they all use it and watch your ingredients. Dr says that don’t happen. Can you help me is it all due to thyroid problems?
Heal your gut first before you take anything. Research Dr Ken Berry and Dr. Eric Berg on thyroid issues. They have tons of awesome videos and helped thousands of people reversed their hypo, hyper, graves, hashi etc… and to get off synthetic drugs prescribed for thyroid issues.
I have hypothyroidism and Dr gave me levothyroxine but didn't tell me what to use for hair lose or any supplement. What will you recommend me to take plz
I love Levothyroxine, I do better on it than Synthroid. But, my health care provider has me on Euthyrox, I hate this med, and that's putting it mildly. She won't tell me why she changed brands. Shouldn't it be up to me which brand it want to use?
I was losing weight and could not eat anything , I was scared when I got to 106 lbs . My doctor took me off levothroxine and I'm up to 122lbs . So am I OK now without my thyroid meds ?

You can't go by lab results since the lab ranges are arbitrary. I don't feel good when taking levothyroxine, so I no longer take it. TSH was 10. If I would have talked to my doctor he would have prescribed levothyroxine. It makes no sense to take it if it doesn't make you feel good. The labs are used to make you think that the script is justified.
@@mnayak9348 I love milk. The iodine content is dependent on farming practices like giving the cow iodine salts or using iodine as an udder disinfectant. Iodine isn't used by dairy farms as much as it was in the past.
I have just been put on Levothyroxine 50 micrograms tablets, I have 4 cans of Lager = beer in my fridge, is it ok for me to drink them while on this medicine.
Damn I remember I overdosed this meds and and it all started with a panic attack at night, feeling psychotic ,feeling things are not real ,unhappy about everything, lost complete focus you wont be able to watch a movie or anything,no sleep and when I try 2mins later I wakeup frightened not knowing what's going on;irritated bowel, extreme fear of nothingness. You wont be able to to know what's happening to you, and the bad part is you're aware of how you think yet you cant calm yourself down, you will think you're catching some mental illness "schizophrenia " .careful if you overdosed these symptoms are gonna develop in a week . And they can remain for 3months or 2 . At least for me it was 2 months n half . Doc gave me sleeping pills and anti anxiety pills .
@Viola Pietrasik no I'm cured now thankfully, that happened in 2019 . I had thyroid issue since 2016 .do a check up to see if your levels are compatible with the dose you're taking,I've also suffered from anxiety because of it but it was normal and it comes and goes but if you started waking up in a panic attack at night suffering from severe insomnia, panic FEAR and weird feeling of self being check ur levels if they were compatible then dont worry it will go away within weeks or months . If ur levels were not compatible with the dose your doc is gonna change ur dose then u will get back to normal later on after weeks / months . Because if you didnt do so,its gonna get worst like mine did it almost felt like I'm schizophrenic, I couldnt sleep alone I was 25 and slept with my mom for weeks when I think of it idk what was wrong with me .
@Viola Pietrasik your welcome I like to share my experience and to help some understand somethings that I've been through ♤wait did you had to do operation on your thyroid or not? I didnt need an operation to remove anything I just needed to take medications because my I had an hyperthyroidism ,if this is your case no operation then it's not really needed to take meds for the rest of your life because I started from Dose 100g levothyroxine and I used to have TSH T3 T4 check ups each 3 months so that the doc can lower my dose if things were getting better,it takes years for your thyroid to be cured but its not permanent, yet I dont know about those who needs an operation if they need to take the meds for the rest of their lives . Yes I meant T3 T4 these ones they trigger anxiety and a lot of mental symptoms as well as physical symptoms as irritability in the stomach (anxiety, butterflies of worries) and yes a Blood test . When I did mine which was TSH and T3 T4 my TSH was okay I mean it was higher as it is or idk but my T3 T4 were Bad my dose was too much for T3 T4 that's what caused me to get sick .i was on 75ug and then he reduced my dose to 25 only . You can ask me somthing if you didnt understand sorry my english seems to be bad when it comes to explaining
@Viola Pietrasik the lower the better^^. well thankfully no operations needed! Yes it decreases and increases I too had a low dose once then i thought it was getting better, and it wasnt i had to come back from point zero which is 100 dose. Its gonna take some years for you to get it back to normal, its usually 1 to 2 -3 years it depends on a person but its not permanent. Oh yeah the palpation and shaking,my fingers were very shakey too all those years. So anxiety really is gonna become part of you until you finally heal it sucks . When I was on that over dose I had to take sleeping pills . But your case looks normal because you're not overdosed or something .so anxiety and all of the symptoms u mentioned are pretty normal and caused by the medicine it sucks . Also just a note, make sure to reduce salt and start drinking water bottle than the tap water. Water plays an important role to your thyroid ,doctors usually never say this .but I realized that i got my thyroid issue since i moved to a different city and drank from its tap water i also googled it and turns out that water plays a big role so the last year before I get healed I switched to bottle water and I dont drink not even a drop from the tap water in that city, and months later my levels got better and they got fixed . All those years I haven't thought about it.so I believe that I cured myself way too quickly by following that tip.
Hi Nina. I felt a bit relieved while reading your comment, because I thought I was going insane. I was drinking 50 mcg and after 3 weeks started feeling weird heart palpitations followed by anxiety, irritation and worse of them all harm OCD thoughts. Just like you said I felt and still feel a bit like I am getting schizophrenia. It feels scary AF, glad I lowered dosage and did not listen to my endocrinologist, that claimed this symptoms are normal 🙄🙄🙄
@@professorcecil damn don't worry you're going to be fine . These symptoms are not okay, they do not only play with your physical health but also mental one which is worst as you said it feels like schizophrenia which i believe it is,it's so bad i was scared that im going insane i felt relieved the day I found out I had to lower my dose . Your symptoms would gradually fade away thank God they're not permanent.
I’m not sure. Though I had a blood test from a ashwaganda mix and ALL it did was lower my already low SHBG. Didn’t raise testosterone or do anything good at all
Back when I took levothyroxine I always took it right after breakfast. It doesn't have to be taken on an empty stomach. The dosage can be determined either way.
Been taking thyroxine since 2005, my system has never got used to it, have horrible side effects whenever dosage has to be changed. Sadly its a necessary evil for hypothyroidism , wish there was another way. Feel like crap most all the time

I had RAI in 2017 (for non- cancer nodules) and have been on levothyroxine since that day. Since then I have lost half of my hair, which is very disgusting. I've tried other thyroid meds. which caused my TSH to skyrocket to 43.95. Took a year, back on levothyroxine, to get It back in the normal range. Guess after tons of tries and lab work there's nothing that will work and sadly having my thyroid destroyed with RAI I have to take it for the rest of my life.
I also had RAI in 2012. So for 12 years, I've suffered with so many life changing symptoms, I have been to doctor after doctor to try to find out what was happening to me. My new integrated gp recognized that my Free T3 was low and TSH was high yet still in range. She tried me on T3 replacement but I couldn't bear the side effects so I've gone from 25 to 50 Levo (on my own). I wish I had known this is all from the RAI which took me from hyper to hypo. So my relative has been taking thyroid medication for a couple of days and now he is having chest pain and weak muscles. I told him to talk to his cardiologist & thyroid doctor before taking another thyroid medication. Sometimes taking too much medications can ruin the kidney & other organs & may cause side effects. I take 125mcg daily due to having no thyroid when I was born .over time doctors have told me that I have a small underactive thyroid but I chose to shun that theory due the fact although my thyroid condition doesn't really affect my motorbility or anything just as long as I take it day by day but if I run out or anything where I have to wait to resupply I notice the effects ,overcoming this I always have my repeat script put in early to avoid that but if there is a chance I could have a small thyroid wat are my options for future medication?
