Man, this song sounds like being on the open road. Just traveling with no particular destination in mind. No schedules, no commitments, no hassles, no worries, no stress; just the freedom of going wherever your destiny awaits you.
Yes, this song ia freedom I imagine traveling trough nature amd then ariving at a futuristic city where everyone lives in harmony with each other and nature 😇
You know what, i had just reading your comments 8 years after and my sensation is the same has yours. An invitation to walk with a backpack in the wild. Cheers !
IMHO, one of Tommy's greatest songs. It's fun to listen to, fun to play, and it just expresses joy at every turn. It never gets old and just lifts your heart!!
sinbaadi And what's fascinating is this is actually one of his simplistic pieces that isn't as hard to play as others. As you can see the chords in this song are almost all popular simple chords. What's so special about a song like this is it truly does paint a picture of the Old American West and the great unknown. Props to him.
Also WAY up there for me are his songs Angelina, Mombasa, To B or Not to B, Traveling Clothes, and the intro to Endless Road. You know, basically everything Tommy does is incredible 😂
Tränen der Freude. Jedes einzelne Mal wenn ich den anhöre. Wieviel schwerer ist es, etwas so universell schönes zu schaffen als die Welt in Schutt und Asche zu legen.
If I had to pick three of Tommy’s songs… that would suck because they always stir up feelings and open my mind and soul but this would be one of the three!!
I've seen quite a few of Tommy's performances on YT and you can't be but convinced he's one of the finest guitarists out there .... but ... this one is something different ... it tugs at your heart strings ...
The bottom line is this: When a man picks up his guitar, and every single note you hear is full of that mans soul and passion, and you know exactly what that man is feeling, he is a true artist. Every note Tommy plays is another thought, emotion or feeling coming from deep inside him that he is sharing with us. We should count ourselves lucky that his technique is at a level at which he can convey these emotions clearly through his music. He is a true musician!
Hi Mr.Tommy Emmanuel, I don't know if you read all the comments on you page, I just want to say that you are a amazing person who happens to play the guitar in a special way that really touches peoples lives and adds so much to the art of music. So thank you very much for your humbly contribution to a better and gracious world. From Japan Ufera
I close my eyes, its like i can see rolling green hills and lush trees that stretch down a river. water blue as the sky. even lewis and clark are strolling through with their raccoon hats and leather tassels.
I see a lone gunslinger, roaming in frozen barren wastes, dreaming of his home, where all is green, his family, and what drives him to do what he must do.
Years and years later. I come back to this song. Nothing has inspired me more than this song to be a better guitar player. I promised my mom I would play this in her honor at her funeral, it’s not a morbid thought for me. It’s a peaceful one. I will learn this, if nothing else, but to give my mom a beautiful send off into the afterlife. It will never be easy, but this song has given me a reason to dedicate more of myself to music. To seeing my mom’s smile as I play chords to songs she recognizes. That woman deserves the spirit this song provides
When I close my eyes and listen to this song, I see untouched nature, a small river flowing deep into the country with trees on either side and a ray of sun shining through. It's beautiful the way music can make you feel
It's stupid how much I love this song. I fail to do anything else but listen with maximum attention whenever i hear it. I can't even walk straight while it's playing. You have my deepest gratitude.
Tommi always blows me away. His tone, his technique, his down to earth aura, but what really inspires, is how he’s this age, and still in love with music and that tiny box with strings as if he were a ten year old at his first concert.
The power of music!! Truly a universal language that Tommy speaks so well. Thank you Mr. Emmanuel for spreading the joy!! You have lifted my spirits many times, brought a smile to an otherwise tearful face. Bless you !! God bless always.
As one gets older, the more one appreciates quality. Tommy is one year younger than me, and ever since I was introduced to his music about 9 years ago, not a day goes by that I don't enjoy it. I'll be seeing him for the 6th time this Saturday at the Palace of Fine Arts. He often plays the same song, but never the same way twice. He is truly the finest musician I have even had the honor of seeing live.
If you listen really closely, especially with studio headphones you can even hear his foot thumping on the ground slightly, this man is just radiating music from his body every time he picks that guitar up
yeah..wow. that D chord, hammer/pull off part just...speaks to one's soul, for lack of a better description. one of his most beautiful compositions/performances, imo.
And for those of us listening to this who also know of Lewis and Clark's story of one of the greatest adventures of early America, they can almost see images of their brave company of men traversing the mountains, seeing animals, tribes, and majestic sights few Europeans had ever seen. I've read their diaries' account and it's truly remarkable - and Tommy's instrumental echoes and captures that sense of awe and adventure! So amazingly beautiful!
пересматриваю этот видео уже раз 20. У меня просто душа поет когда я смотрю это. Томми настоящий виртуоз и проффесионал. Так с душой делать свое дело не может никто кроме него.
Tommy Emanuel is like the Rain man, but with a guitar. When he plays, the guitar is surprised!! Watching him play is a "Zen" state for me!! I'm content, captured, and I'm inspired!! I'm 46 years old, and I've played guitar 🎸 since I was 6 - 7 years old. Since the day I first heard this man play, I've approached my guitar differently, because only him and Slash have had the power , sound, and style that made my ears reprogram themselves!! Tommy is a HUGE influence and inspiration in my life. I listen to his music every day without fail. God bless you, Mr. Emanuel for sharing your music . The world and music itself has a priceless wealth with you in it. You have become a big part of my life. Thank you for that. I would love to meet you some day. Be safe, God bless, and keep making calluses!!
This song brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it. It's a perfect acoustic piece in my honest opinion. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, so thank you for giving us something so vibrant, gracious, exctinng and beautiful.
Learned about Lewis and Clark expedition today at school. Heard this at home. Nailed the feeling perfectly... Crossing the Frontier... Adventure... omgomg...
It is hard to describe the joy I get from your music. On a break from a hard cold Monday at work, you and a hot cup of tea will get me through it. Thanks for that joy.
Woah. Just woah. I have shivers and chills. I can feel the rolling thunder of the hooves. I can see the sun rising over the mountains. I can smell the dew on the eucalypts. I can hear the fear in the explorers hearts of the unknown. This is beautiful and magical.
FrancisBaconButter The Tall Fiddler is a song that i can play xd so MrHestichs should send classical gas, this song is very difficult and sound amazing :)
@@kevinvanhove5834 Chet inspired him to this style of playing. Tommy taught himself though. He talks about it at shows how everyone told him that playing like this was a recording trick and nobody could do it all at once. He didn't believe them and set it to play what he heard.
@@kevinvanhove5834 Unless Chet Atkins lived in Muswellbrook NSW Australia in the 1960’s and followed his family around Australia while they toured I’m sure he must of taught him to play. Please keep your comments to yourself as they make you look like a fool.
I attended you concert in St. Louis earlier this year. My classical Alvarez is now 50 years old and I haven't played it in a while. After attending your live performance I know that I can never play with your level of skill but what I learned from watching you is that you have fun when you're playing. Not to impress but to have fun and that was what I was missing. I went home, got out my guitar and replaced the strings and now I play for fun. Thank you for showing me the way.
I moved to Vienna, Austria a few months ago. When i first heard this, i put it on my phone and walked through the city at night, taking it all in. I thought the song perfectly summed up everything i was feeling. Now I'm going through some other shit - song feels just the same. Really amazing piece, I'm so grateful for it.
Tommy's work ethic, generous nature and integrity are enough to make you marvel at the man, but when you factor in the music that flows from his soul through his considerable hands and into your ears it's enough to leave you in awe. It's the unadulterated sound of victory,
I'm in awe of anyone who has skills such as Tommy Emanuel. I started playing guitar in 1955 and could never develop the ability to adilib. He is amazing.
Fantastic tune.. I want to pick up my guitar and just try playing this. I know I will fail, but it is a challenge. What a beautiful tune. Very moving. Thank you Tommy.
This man and Doyle Dykes are by personal preference, my favorite guitarists. I don't subscribe to the ridiculous " best player" nonsense, at a certain level one can play anything another can play. I admire all who can play this wonderful instrument with mastery, as I admire all fine musicians. I haven't had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Emmanuel play in person and I have seen Mr. Dykes play many times to jaw dropping effect. These men are amazing.
Matthew DeMeritt Agreed. I think Tommy's rendition of Classical Gas is technically brilliant, but it's songs like this that demonstrate his song writing ability (imo).
I saw Tommy play live a couple years ago in New York, center row, line 3, I was a couple feet away from the man. I remember thinking "Ok, so THIS is what real honest out-of-this-world talent sounds like". Simply amazing.
Amazingly captivating cascade of harmonic layers and stories, both simple and complex, expertly elucidated and delivered to any audience of jaw-dropping open ears
Iam with ya.. it is so beautiful and sweet. you can't stop listening to this music. it is very addictive. I usually play this when am about to sleep. It is liquid gold. i don't yet know how to play any instrument but this piece of music is other worldly...:)
My good (musical genius, really) son, Caleb, heard Tommy do a concert sometime back. His response ... "Dad, I went into my closet and found the box for my guitar - put the ax back in it and took it back to the store where I'd purchased it. I told the guy at the counter, 'This thing doesn't work.'"
was listening to this on headphones... thought i heard someone walking in the house... nope, just the bass notes that his left knee's making... right in tune with the music... such a great song/artist
I just realized this man is the only person I've ever heard of who gives me goosebumps with nothing more than a single acoustic guitar. Yeah, I get them all the time when I'm listening to music, but its usually more than one freaking instrument
Sometimes I wounder what the words to this song would be. If its about love or loss, wounder and awe, or just peace of heart. This song hits different when your in the middle of a lake in the wilderness compared to starring out the window at the rain.
I saw Tommy Emmanuel in Salt Lake City on the suggestion of a friend of mine. I am so glad I did. What an amazing performer and wonderfully expressive artist. You are a gift to this musically needful world.
This is an amazing piece! Everything is coming together by this musically vision. Feel, technique & songwriting. It can't get any better than that. Thank you Tommy, for sharing your visions of art and beeing so consistant in the biz! We love You for that! Cheers.
This, his playing, is an example of the embodiment of flow. From the musical source straight through a human portal called Tommy Emmanuel and coming out into the real world touching everyone else via his fingertips on guitar strings. An example of what it's like to experience an epiphany. Totally one with a source, with you as its lens through which it reflects for everyone else to see and (in this case) hear. Thank you Tommy for allowing us to tangentially experience the feeling. John~ American Net'Zen
Never knew I could feel what I felt hearing this, and that includes my travels in India where I thought the experience of having every emotion I had ever had condensed into a half day was something...... brought the book Sacagawea so much back to mind too......Sacagawea is best known for her association with the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-06). A Shoshone woman, she accompanied the expedition as an interpreter and traveled with them for thousands of miles from St Louis, Missouri, to the Pacific Northwest....... I feel blessed to have witnessed Tommy give this gift........ 🙏
I go around and listen to all the current great guitarists, with their spectacular skills, and lighting fast rips, and their great technical understanding of music, but there is simply nothing that satisfies, that is a full meal, that feels complete, as when Tommy plays something.
sweatshirt029 Just gotta master that opening riff, the EM/G base note switch in the beginning, and that switch at 1:47 and you've basically got the song :D I've been trying to learn it too
Alex L Yeah that crazy chord he does at 1:48 is hard , but after a week or two of practicing you'll be able to put your fingers in that position with your eyes closed!
