A continuation of our series on Lewis Dot Structures, this video expands on our systematic approach to include drawing charged structures and molecular radicals. We explain how to alter the number of electrons around the central atom based on the net charge of the polyatomic ion and go into detail on how to combine formal charges for hypervalent oxyanions. We then explain how to determine preemptively whether or not a molecule will be a radical based on the number of group 15 and 17 atoms present and then how to accommodate the unpaired electron.
