Famous soap opera star of the 1970s in the Parade: "I've been all over the world, and the prettiest town I ever went to was Lewiston, Idaho. It's like a lovely green jewel nestled in the hills". Coming down the Old Spiral Highway pre-1977?

At the beginning of the video, the narrator identified the river as the Snake River. That was the Clearwater River. The river that runs more vertically in the scenic overlook picture is the Snake. It continues to the west until it joins the Columbia.

My husband wanted me to remind you that Lewiston is a secret banana belt, 400 feet above sea level and it rarely snows there.
@530dynasty1
@530dynasty1 4 года назад
Yes Ive seen that said in a few places now. I have family in Kooskia and they say it rarely ever snows in Lewiston compared to where they live, which is a big plus for me. I like snow, but just to visit. We will be visiting again this summer sometime and I'll make sure to spend a day in Lewiston. Both videos you've posted give me a very nice feel for the area. Thank you!

I would recommend it! I thought it was beautiful and with the Snake river between Clarkston & Lewiston is quite pretty. The only thing I didn't like was the smell from the Pulp Mill on the Lewiston side, it can be quite strong. I have another video (sorry it's a little shaky) if your interested. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HG7-EDDQx84.html

Thanks for your nice and sharp videos, bring back lots of memories. I used to live in Lewiston and attended LCSC from the fall of 81 till the summer of 82, did my English as 2nd Language course there before moving to Lincoln NE. I often fished by the Snake River. Very beautiful twin cities indeed! Used to stay at no. 406 4th Street but when I googled-map the area not so long ago the house was no longer there, the area had been converted to additional car-parks for the college. Between fall of 83 to summer of 87 I moved to WSU at Pullman WA and revisited the city often. Not been back since, sigh!

Don't go for Lewiston. Try Asotin. The area in the valley itself isn't the prettiest (although you come to appreciate it), but you can drive an hour in any direction and wind up somewhere gorgeous!

The best part of the LCValley is leaving it. Potlatch ruins what could be a wonderful 2 river destination. It was just last year in 2018 that Potlatch had to shut down for 4 days for maintenance or what ever they were doing. On the 3rd day I was coming down the Lewiston grade and in 40+ years have never seen the mountains in the back ground so clear. The smell was gone, the haze was gone, even other drivers seemed to be just a little more polite from the breathing of fresh air. I can only imagine the difference if Potlatch was shut down just for a couple of weeks.
@Matrix7Adventures

@@530dynasty1 It's a paper mill. The smell can be strong in downtown but along the Snake River the smell dissipates and if you go south about 15 minutes outside Lewiston proper, the smell is not noticeable.
@530dynasty1

@@JChang0114 We ended up moving to Kamiah. I commute to Lewiston semi often for work. The smell is pretty rank. Someone described it as dirty gym locker room, which feels very appropriate haha.

That twistie road you were on can be traveled at a much faster speed than what you were doing. I used to run that road on my motorcycle, never going slower than 45 mph. Next to the paper mill is where I worked when I lived there. It’s the fresh water treatment plant. Lewiston was a nice place to live when I was there in 2010-2011. You get used to the smell from the paper mill. There used to be a food truck across the street from city hall. It had(has?) the best Mexican food in town.
