We move to Lexington, KY and spend our first day in town running errands and dry camping at the Cabela's... full-time RV living isn't all amazing adventures and picture-perfect campgrounds! The next day we move into our spot at the Kentucky Horse Park Campground and don't waste any time exploring. Bri indulges her love for all things horse with a visit to the horse park. We drive about an hour outside of Lexington to explore Natural Bridge State Park and Red River Gorge. We end our stay with one last stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, Glenns Creek Distillery.

I drove through Lexington on a camping trip years ago, and it has always stood out in my mind for its beautiful farms and fences. The natural bridge is spectacular, as is your videography. I'm glad to know your van fit the tunnel ... now I'm sure mine will too. Thanks for another fine video!

I love a well-manicured farm... miles and miles of painted four board fence, magnificent barns, green pasture, horses peacefully grazing. We are from Ocala, FL which is neck in neck with Lexington for being known as the Horse Capital of the World, so I grew up around it and it feels like home. So happy to hear you enjoyed the video, thank you!

Love that you explain the Cabela's opportunity and you showed that you shopped there. I always fear folks take advantage of it. Great Job! Your channel is doing great, keep up the great work. We re-watched your Crater Lake video again as we are headed there in July!!!

Thank you! We almost cut the Cabela's part because we worried it made the video too long, but staying there was such a departure from our norm we decided it was worth the extra few minutes. I hope you're not right about people taking advantage, enough of that will ruin it for the rest of us. Crater Lake was top 3 for us last year, we hope you love it as much as we did!!

Glad you enjoyed it!! Yes, that half mile hike up, while short, was mighty!! Sky Lift is a nice option. Its not complete without pizza at Miguel's pizza and climb shop. Hansons Point, Grays Arch and over 100 arches and several waterfalls. Kayaking Mill Creek Lake and walking Mill Creek falls. I own an Airstream as well, a vintage restored Argosy motorhome. I also suggest Koomer Ridge and Middle Fork campgrounds. Zip line, kayak the Red River and kayak the cave. And so much more

Just our luck Castle & Key would be closed the day we wanted to go, but that's our fault for not researching ahead of time. We'll have to plan a return trip, we really wanted to visit Buffalo Trace too not to mention the (seemingly) hundreds of other distilleries we missed. We're actually sort of trying to get into climbing ourselves! We climbed a little over the summer with my brother in Washington, and bought some gear we found on clearance at a store in the Tetons that was getting ready to shut down for winter, but we're intimidated being novice climbers about how to get started. Anyways, we thought that'd be a cool thing to do while we travel around - we were recently in Joshua Tree which appears to be a climbing mecca. Glad they haven't widened Nada Tunnel, it's narrowness is part of it's charm! Thanks for watching and commenting!!

@@EmbracingDetours Ive been climbing for about 25 years. I think you should go to a climbing gym and get some instruction, or when at or near climbing areas hire a guide to take you out( you'll learn a lot and get to climb some neat routes with a guide that you probably won't get to just going out by yourselves). Guides always have great stories and will teach you many things and the right way. J-Tree would've been a great place for a guide.

Our van is (approx.) 9' tall, 8' wide and 18' long. Your added length might cause a problem on that narrow windy road... it's fine until someone is coming the other direction lol. So we stayed at the Kentucky Horse Park Campground just outside Lexington as well. Beautiful campground (water electric only). Sites are spread out and you are near several horse farms and of course close to the Bourbon trail. I highly recommend this campground......yes there are horse there and people with horse trailers but this is NOT a dirty horse park.....this is a very nice CC. Check it online! Great video as always!
@EmbracingDetours
@EmbracingDetours 5 лет назад
You are right, it really is a beautiful campground. Just to be clear, we NEVER called it a dirty horse park. I love all things horse so that fact that it's horse-centric was a plus in my book. Our initial impression of the park was swayed by a few factors - getting there on a Saturday when the campground was filled to capacity, our site was so unlevel front to back that we had to put a block under the tongue jack to raise the front end, a rude employee and the $5 handling fee per package delivered to the campground. All those things did not help us get off on the right foot with the Horse Park Campground. After spending a few days there, it grew on us quite a bit. The campground is well maintained, large fields of lush grass and mature trees spread throughout. Clean showers and some nice amenities, and it's in good proximity to a lot of things to do in the area. As we mentioned at the end of the video, we did enjoy our stay here and hope we didn't give an impression otherwise. Thank you, RV'n in North Carolina, for watching!! We appreciate it very much 😁

@@EmbracingDetours No no...sorry..I was not stating on adding to your comments. Your overall assessment was positive for sure. Were your dogs not allowed on the Natural Bridge hike? How do you keep them exercised? Quite enjoy your vlogs!
@EmbracingDetours
@EmbracingDetours 5 лет назад
Unfortunately, they were not 😔It was a real bummer, not to mention I could have used a pull up those steps!! We get them out every opportunity we can - sometimes it's walks through the campground, or throwing the ball, or a dog park or dog beach. Just depends on the area. They don't look it, but they are 9 and 10, so they don't require quite as much exercise as a puppy or adolescent. Glad to hear you're enjoying, thank you for watching and commenting 👍😊

I believe the blackness was from them burning the barrels to get them seasoned.

It's actually a black fungus (Baudoinia compniacensis) that feeds off the ethanol that's released as the whiskey ages in the barrel. Thanks for watching and commenting!!

Caught a glimpse of your hitch. Is it a Hensley? Do you have a video on it?if not how do you like it? Is there truth to Hensley advertisements?
@EmbracingDetours
@EmbracingDetours 5 лет назад
We haven't done a video...yet. We actually have a Pro-Pride (www.propridehitch.com/), very similar design to the Hensley. When we started out we had a Reese dual cam hitch, which was very good, but the difference between it and the Pro-Pride is night and day. It is rock steady, even towing with our lifted and almost 20-year-old vehicle. We really struggled with making the decision to buy because of the price but I will honestly say it has been the best investment we've made to our rig so far. That said, we are hitched up and towing more than we are not and now that we've owned it I personally wouldn't want anything else. For the casual RV'er, I can see where the cost would be hard to swallow.

Very nice! We have a $30 a night average goal and hit at or below it most months, but it's much more difficult on the east coast... much more truly free camping opportunities as you get out west.

I love y'alls vlogs...the new rules at Walmart are being enforced by the local authorities. Walmart is still RV friendly. I think that should be said in your vlog in lieu of stating that Walmart is becoming less RV friendly. Cabelas will be next when the local authorities enforce their ordinances.
@EmbracingDetours
@EmbracingDetours 5 лет назад
Well, that's a real bummer, but I understand people essentially living in the parking lots has become an issue in some areas. I also heard Walmart was planning to transform extra parking lot space to town centers, which would also impact the space available. Not sure how (if) that's affecting things currently, just something I read. We're sorry we weren't more clear about why some Walmarts aren't allowing overnight parking any longer, just knew that it has become more prevalent in the few years since we started RVing. As always, thank you for watching and commenting 👍
