Lexus dealers struggling to sell cars. If you hated MONEY, which one would you buy in 2024?

I checked on Lexus website, really no deals or incentives to speak of. Their sales are down, inventory going up but these luxury brands apparently don't need to sell cars just yet, they'll wait it out. The car market is bonkers lately but I thought it would be fun to check out a local Lexus dealer. Lexus is down sales in 2024, not looking good, lots of stock and no incentives.
Which one would you buy?

Just purchased a 2024 RX500h fully loaded and got a good deal. About 3000 (yes, three thousand) below MSRP. Love it so far. It's fun to drive.

I checked into the RX500H for my wife. They wanted almost $1200 a month with about 5 grand upftont. No thx lol. MSRP was just under 71k

Tried to buy a used 460 with a buyer service numbers. 460 was sitting on the lot for nearly 90 days. Dealer wouldn’t budge off price. I walked and went elsewhere and bought one. It’s still on the lot…

I bought my first Lexus 6 months. 2 year old 350 es CPO vehicle with 29000 miles for 34000. I always buy CPO vehicles and this one was a good deal as most people who buy Lexus want to buy new, not used. My advice is to buy CPO vehicles, they are great cars usually at good prices. By the way, I had my worst buying experience ever at my local Lexus dealer when the sales guy quoted me a final price, we shook on it,and then after manager approved the deal called me next day and said they “accidentally offered it to me cheaply” I made a huge stink in the middle of the Lexus dealership and because there were potential customers on the floor, they honored my price. By the way,new Lexus cars are over priced and the newer vehicles are using unproven engine technology. I would never buy one new, never.

As a long time Lexus fan I think the problem with the brand is that they’re still operating under the assumption that they’re still the only viable Asian luxury car for shoppers. 10 years ago there was no competition against Lexus for something made in Asia, reliable, relatively luxurious, and styled well so the brand could justify the price and lack of features. But now with literally a crowded luxury market, Lexus is bringing less and less to the table yet raising their prices more and more. All the brands have safety down, many competitors SUVs have gotten reliable, a ton of competitors offer more power yet better fuel economy. To me, the only thing Lexus is offering is the design language and the badge which is pretty sad.

Yeah it seems to me that Lexus and Toyota are riding the reliability reputation still, but that is changing rapidly with the new cars they are releasing. Everything is starting to look/feel like other manufacturers now, turbo engines, too many electronics...all the junk that makes cars eventually not reliable. You are right, times have changed.

I’m a long time fan as well, owing both an IS250 and IS350. When my 350 lease ended, Lexus didn’t have anything interesting or exciting to drive other than the RC F which I could not swing with young kids. Today the F vehicles are pretty much dead and other than the IS500, Lexus still lacks anything with any sense of excitement. And let’s be real about the IS, other than the IS500 V8 option, it’s practically the same car from 2014! I would love to come back but the lineup is stale, dated and the competition has moved on.

The other brands especially BMW has brought excitement to their lots, nice colors choices, Lexus if you drive past their lot you will fall asleep, BORING but ugly. I have a GX 470 by the way.

@@jrighteous1984 As a Lexus owner, I didn’t even care about the engine downsizing and I think most Lexus owners don’t even understand the difference between the engines. But, what bothered me significantly was that the engine was smaller but the fuel economy literally didn’t change. A 4 cylinder from the Germans can get high 20s EASILY, and with my 23 RX350 I’m barely getting 20.

You are going to love it, I have the 2023 ES300h Ultra Luxury, with additional options and dealer add-ons, the same color as yours in and out. Paid less than M.S.R.P. LOL My wife is a negotiator. 🤔 PS - I'm averaging 42+ MPG in City/Hwy driving. Oh, and change the oil & filter at 1,000 miles then every six months regardless of mileage. I have had mine changed three times already with 10,500 miles on the OD. If you don't believe me, watch The Motor Oil Geek on YT explain why he changed his daughter's Corolla at 500 miles. You will understand.

I finally figured out the game a day late and a never comeback. Buy a 3 year old CPO Lexus and a 50% discount, In 2019, a 2017 Lexus GX 460 with 33K miles on it was going for 33K. The sales rep stated that I should have seen the pricing last year, they were given them away.

I test drove the NX350H in January and there were already quite a few to select from and can get delivery right the way. In the end I opted for the Toyota Venza Limited but I will have to wait for one with my interior and exterior colour I want. I think I will have to wait for a while before I can get one from Japan.

I have a 2020 Lexus NX SUV with less 20k miles on it. It's in excellent condition. My lease is up and I need to visit the dealer tomorrow to discuss a new lease. If my credit score is 655 and I have no down payment, what should I be prepared for as far negotiation? I'd like to get another Lexus NX SUV? Is it better to get 2025 version or 2024? I'm paying $499/month lease currently.

Yeah I"m guessing Lexus doesn't care, but all of the non-luxury brands will car when people continue not to buy. I was amazed though, I see people still buying Toyota Tundra trucks at a dealer close by for $70-$80k....it's bananas.

My 2004 ES330 at 167k runs perfect and gets TLC from me not "mechanics" have no plans to overpay for anything new. Also own 1996 Toyota T100. Bulletproof with proper maintenance. Get offers in parking lots frequently. Nope. Keepers

Waiting for my 2013 RX350 to break so I can somewhat justify getting an NX. Not sure if I want to spend over 50k. Also looking at the Subaru Crosstek for $36,000 but still leaning toward the Lexus. Going to test drive the NX tomorrow.

I have a 2005 RX330, still running strong at 250K miles! I'm waiting for it to die to get a new one, but it refuses lol. Seeing these prices...Just insane. I'd rather drive my old Lexus and keep my $50K+ making money in CDs etc.. $75k for an SUV, this market is crazy.

Many of them are SUVs, and I don't like those in general. The IS and ES are the ones I'd buy if I bought new. The GS is my favourite, but those are no longer made.

I don't think the dealers have really adjusted prices yet. They are starting to offer leases and financing incentives to move more cars, if that doesn't work like they plan, then they will be forced to lower prices more. Time will tell, but seems like August and beyond will be better pricing.

Good luck, last year I had seven Lexus dealers tell me to forget about a 2023 NX350h as well as the RX350. And they are assembled in Ontario, Canada. Plus, they wanted a refundable 2,000 deposit, which means you have little room to negotiate when the car comes in because they got you by the short hairs. Ouch!

Biggest reason the is and rc aren't selling is the competition. If you compare how the lexus performs to a bmw you will pick a euro for the power. Even the turbo i4 in the acura pumps more low end torque. It's the main reason stopping me from getting a lexus. Luxury but lacks performance compared to others in this price category.

Yeah it's interesting to see the sales numbers, you can tell by the annual sales graphs when the other manufacturers started to take business away from Lexus due to in part what you mentioned.

@TheCarGuyOnline it's a tough pill to swallow when the m340i sells around the same msrp as an is350 f sport but one has a huge leg ahead of the other. Relying on the brand history of reliability won't sell cars now. We are selling the Korean brands that were and still known for bad engines and cars outselling many. I want to see lexus get back on top again and be an actual competitor to the euro brands, but right now their old v6 won't cut it.

That's not an issue. Your license plate will cover it and nobody will even notice it. We have the same thing in NY 🗽. Don't let that discourage you. Lexus vehicles are very good and reliable. I have a 2016 es350 premium with 38,000 miles on it. I only have the brakes done and follow the normal maintenance. No problem at all.

Yes. I've owned three (ES 300 and two GS 350 AWD) and had more than 200,000 trouble free miles. My state does not require a front plate and I personally wouldn't buy a brand new vehicle with holes in the front bumper.

I just went to this dealer again yesterday, same thing, insane stock everywhere here. I think they are selling some, and maybe this dealer has more real estate than some in Denver so, maybe they are using it to stage cars and ship to other dealers? Not sure, but I don't think it's click bait. If you can tell me how the title and thumbnail didn't match the content, I'm all ears.

@@TheCarGuyOnline They've been slowing to sell and acted as no stock but a lot of stocks on their lot though .... soon EVs will be cheaper and cheaper than hybrid vehicles and these dealers will wish to sell faster!! Tesla model Y AWD 320 mile range is on sale like $45K and some got $41 (of course after $7500 tax credit deduction).. I might get one ,,it's getting cheaper cheaper ---- like vs RAV4 Hybrid Prime...I would rather buy Tesla Y AWD 292 miles range ..$39K!

Nice cars but no dealer incentive to get them out the door. I went shopping for one and deslers rather sit on them then to heavens forbid give any discount. I guess they think old retired is there only customers.

You are correct. I couldn't find a single incentive that was worth more than $1000, which is nothing these days. Looking over the years, Lexus has been declining quite a bit in sales since 2018-2019, but they really don't seem to care. They sell very few cars compared to other manufacturers and I think they are completely happy operating this way. I will say, the new designs are some of my favorite looking new cars compared to just about any other brand. Not sure why but that 500h is just so sexy looking.

The dealerships must be making a killing on service… I don’t see how you keep the lights on and paying salaries when not volume selling cars. I’m learning how run a machine shop… and month to month it’s all about production and invoicing.

Lexus sales numbers have been pretty bad for the past few years IMO. I think they had decent years from 2015 to 2017 or so but that was it. Maybe they are just funded eternally by Toyota And their goal is not numbers?

That original customer is usually someone who wants to appear more successful than they are (realtors) so they will get turned around into a brand new lease. Lexus dealers are not hurting.

Given the past few years it's actually not common to have full lots anywhere. Just in the past few months has it really started to get back to normal :).

I was researching the UX hybrids, as I need a small crossover. Thought the interior was f-ugly! Worse, called my local Lexus dealer and they are selling ABOVE MSRP because as he put it "We're Lexus and people pay US for the nameplate". Sheesh!!!

Yeah it makes no sense. From the outside, they are one of the best looking cars on the market, I admit I haven't sat in too many new ones though. My wife still has an old RX350.

I unloaded my lousy ‘20 NX last year for a ‘23 Mazda CX5 Signature. Never happier to say goodbye to that waste of $$$.

I had some people asking me about Mazdas lately and they seem hit or miss, glad you like it. I've got some friends that had nothing but good luck with them, and they had manuals which was a bonus.

Hey Lexus, stop putting turbos into puny 4 cylinders and stupid hybrid technology that does nothing for the environment and give us a proper V6/V8. Redesign the TX with a not-so-fugly grill.

the TX is a weird design. I like the back but have the same feeling you do about the grill/front, it's just not right.

@@n7y8c7 For whatever reason I didn't like the TX as much as the others, definitely didn't hate it, but it's easier to make those smaller SUVs look more sporty too...that might have something to do with it.

well they do have a lot better track record for reliability...that's their target market. People that want luxury but reliable.

Their sales numbers are not great, profit might be fine. Again, I don't think they are a company that really cares about volume, obvious from the numbers. They have their target market and they are happy selling lower numbers at higher profits.

The IS shows what the problem is: $55.000 for a car with an outdated 10 year old platform! My brother just got a BMW 440i for $53000. Why would anyone go for the Lexus?!?!

@@TheCarGuyOnline Well, (1) they are not selling them (the point of your video), and (2) the BMW might be less reliable, but it's SO much better in any other way!

@@dolarizacionenaccion790 Yeah I hear ya. BMWs are a blast to drive. I had this old 2011 328i with msport and a 535xi....they both were a blast to drive but, I got sick of things that really shouldn't go bad on cars under 100k miles.

You are rare, lots of people since 2020 thought their cars would go up in value LOL....like they never lived in previous decades. Unless you are very well off, new cars are generally not a good financial decision.
