Changing the ATF (drain and fill) on Lexus ES330 - 2004
This is a DIY video on how to change the Transmission Fluid - ATF - in a Lexus ES330. Although this is a 2004, it also applies to models 2002 to 2006.
It is straightforward. You need to make sure you know how much oil you took out, so you can put in the same amount. This is not a flush and you should not do a flush. This is just a spill and fill. And if you do this every 40k miles or so, the fluid will get refreshed over time.
I suggest you use genuine Toyota fluid, and not some other brand. Also replace the gasket in the drip screw.

I use Valvoline maxlife atf. Actually on a 188k 2006 es330 I was 100k over the last change. Did 2 drain and fill, then dropped the pan to change filter. Added lubegaurd with there instant stop shudder and the cars running significantly better.

My mechanic filled Dexron III compatible to manual recommended ATF Type-IV. Can I simply drain and replace with Type-IV? I don’t want to flush simply because it has compatible Dexron-III. I afraid to let the tranny with Dexron-IV. Please advice. 😢

Even a drain and fill that I did does not completely replace the fluid. There is still about 2 quarts of the old fluid left in the torque converter. The only way to get rid of the old fluid is to repeatedly change the fluid day every 5k miles. Already in your trans-axle you have both fluids - iii and iv.

It does not have a filter or it is not necessary to change it

It does have a filter and gasket for the pan that should be changed. To drop the pan in the 2004, you have to unbolt a crossmember to get it out of the way to get to a couple of the pan bolts. I am not ready to take on this work at this time so will wait for the next fluid change. I think removing the pan bolts could be down if you have some swivel wrenches. But it is best to do it when the car is up in the flat, instead of an incline like I have.
