Great video! Appreciate the love you gave for the Desert Sage. I have one that lifted with some black pro comp rims on Falken Wildpeak ATs and get so many compliments especially from other GX owners
Yes, but GX460s have the notoriously leaking timing chain covers that require similar amount of work to re-seal it as replacing the timing belt, no? By the way, love your channel and enjoy the western scenery!
my deal breaker with the 460 is requires premium unleaded and time and time again we know the 470 does not need premium and i can attest to that argument as i personally own a 4runner with the 4.7 and some will argue oh its the tune but im not buying that argument
Nice overview! I would add that 2003 was the only year that the GX was offered with a transmission fluid dipstick. The 2004-2009 were all “sealed” transmission. Those who know, know.
The Car Care Nut already posted a video for those of us with "sealed" transmissions. Just replace the WS fluid every 60K miles, if that deadline is missed just do a drain and fill every 30K miles.
You did mention some items of concern that are common to the GX. My opinion is that the air suspension is not a big deal. I replaced my air bags for $300 or so. It was an easy repair and it keeps the smooth ride. And also it's pretty awesome when you're towing and you always have a level suspension. Another common problem is the secondary air injection system....SAIS. This is an expensive repair but there are bypass options for cheap.
Dude, even with the Internet, these things were being given away a few years ago. Before people "accepted" the higher gas prices, the public went mpg crazy and wanted nothing to do with these. Fast forward to today and people learned to do math. Even getting a crappy 15mpg beast only cost you a couple grand more per year vs a high mpg little car.
