Did you end up changing your rack out? My wife's RX330 has 138 k miles and the shop says I have a bad seal and needs to change out the rack and one set of worn tie rods. $1600 ish quote. Does that sound right?
Great video, my RX330 started making noise and the car shop told me my Power steering reservoir is empty . You video helped me to fix the problem. Wondering where did you get such a big Baster. I like to buy one
Tips: -$1 turkey baster from a dollar store - 3 to 4 inch length of tubing, to match with the opening in the baster -duct tape. yes, duct tape. If your girlfriend is hot, then you can do the 50 shades of grey bit. If not, just use the duct tape to wrap the joint between the baster and the tube. This will work just fine to evacuate the reservoir. the best place to put the fluid is in a paper coffee cup, which you can the knock over and spill all over your garage floor.
Well, a chirping, annoying noise is on when car is off or on, at all times. Could this amount to low power steering fluid? Mine IS low. Or could it be something else? Car runs perfect. 2006 RX330 LX. Many thx
Where can I buy those plastic clips and what is the size? The plastic clips were used to hold the plastic cover as explained in your video at the 1:04 minute mark.
thanks for the video. Looking at other vids it looks like there's about a quart of fluid in there, so it will take many siphonings to get out all of the old stuff...
All, don't just evacuate and then fill. Instead, continue to evacuate and fill, while turning wheels back and forth between evacuate/fill, until the whole quart is used. This will dilute the old oil and replenish with new oil throughout the system. Do this every two years if in hot summer climate and only three years in cold climate areas. Will probably take three evacuate / fill cycles and you will see the oil go from brown to new color.
It looks simple enough. But with replacing only 20% in the reservoir, it is actually not flush. Say old fluid is 100. After the 1st operation, the old become 100x0.8=80. After the second time, the old is 80*0.8=0.64... After 5 times the old fluid is 100*0.8^5=32%, not 0%.
I was confused before with my car too. The plastic cover says power steering fluid, but the car manual says automatic transmission fluid. Which is what he shows and explains as well.
I am also wondering about this matter. My 2004 RX 330 seems to be hesitant at times as it shifts from 2nd gear to 3rd gear. I’m wondering that simply changing my transmission fluid will help. Or changing my power steering fluid. Also, why did he choose to put “transmission fluid” into the power steering reservoir?
