Good job! Very similar swap to my GS400. I also have a lightened FW. BTW, if you have any clutch chatter issues, check all your mounts. I found my driver’s side torn in half. Went with stiffer mounts and chatter is virtually gone.
@@ForwardMomentum I'm running the XAT stage 1 which is from SPEC, I'm getting used to it but it is stiffer than other clutches even though it used rated for almost 500ftlbs. How does your feel like?
@@StriViK I run the LWFW so I’m not sure mine is a fair comparison. I have to rev it up a bit. Mine will still chatter if I do it wrong, but if I do it right, it’s smooth. I hope this clutch will hold 300-320whp because I am going to supercharge this thing next. 😎
@@ForwardMomentum I'm on a LFW as well. XAT's 11.5lb or 13.5lb one. Are you thinking centrifugal or roots? I'm contemplating on a turbo setup, rear mount or front mount but that will towards the end of the year.
You are down on power. The uz vvti ecu’s disable the vvti, cut throttle plate angle and cut timing when there is a transmission fault. You will need the transmission emulator wired in to trick the ecu. Costs about $100 and it’s well worth it since you are down 50 horsepower without it. Used one in my 3uz Supra and it brought full power back and cleared out the check engine light too. Good luck.
You are right for most cars but on this 1998 SC400 that is not the case, even in the video I mentioned that it might be disabled but I checked with a advanced scanning tool and it shows vvti working, also checked timing. I will install the emulator soon since I already have it, just need to clean up a few things.
XAT racing quoted me $3061.00 total for the trans adapter, flywheel, clutch kit, install tool, shifter, driveshaft, release bearing, hoses and hardware- plus shipping ......is there anything they left out in your experience? Giving consideration to going this way.
Sounds about right. Just make sure you have both the flywheel bolts and pressure plate bolts in the order. You will need to get a transmission mount because XAT does not make one and you will also need to get a 3/4 Clutch Master Cylinder. I'm making a video on all the parts you will need if done through XAT so stay tuned!
I like those cars but read only 3rd gen is one with much less issues like hydraulic fan for one before made electronic and also they were 50 more hp. 300 instead of 250 in 97 or 98
All SC400s have the hydraulic fan and it's not that much of a reliability nightmare as long as you change it every so miles. Yeah the 1UZ made 300hp for the GS400 but 290hp for the SC400 in 98.
@@jaromor8808 You can get a ATemu from all4swap.ru or QuantumAuto. It eliminates any check engine lights related to the automatic transmission not being there. It also emulates the auto transmission by putting it in P, R, L/2 and D. So you don't get any power loss issues.
@@StriViK First of all, thanks for responding! As I said, I have the ‘97 SC300. It’s a five speed. I’ve had it since 2000 and of all the cars I’ve ever owned, it’s been the best and my favorite. M speedometer needle no longer works and the blower on my air conditioner/defrost doesn’t work and the mileage indicator doesn’t work. Other than these few glitches, I need a paint job and minor upholstery work. Thanks again for responding. Ed Dry.
@@G8fulguy The common issue with the speedometer and odometer is that they both go away together. There really isn't a quick fix for it however there is a capacitor behind the odometer that usually starts to fail, some people have reported that they fixed it by replacing it or cleaning & twisting it a bit. I used to have that issue as well, but I never go to fixing it, instead I replaced my entire instrument cluster. As for the issue on your AC, the blower motor may be worn out and you can try replacing it/powering it on directly and see if the issue is with the motor or the climate control. Many of these issues are related to the car's age and specifically the age of the electronics. As time goes on we will hear more and more about these issues. I recently changed the burnt LCD screen on my climate control but haven't had any issues otherwise. Oh and I'm glad you are an owner of a 1 of 120 97 SC300 owner, those are the rarest SC you can get it, so definitely something you should own for life
@@StriViK I certainly plan to keep the car! I think now that Summer is over and I won’t “roast” while driving it, I’ll take it to the Lexus dealership to see if the can fix it? I’ve driven it up and down the east coast from Florida to NJ and it is an incredible car! Thanks so much!
@@G8fulguy most likely the dealership won't be able to fix it. I asked the dealership in Houston and they said it couldn't be done, I pressed them on the matter and I got a call from a master tech. He told me that they'll have to send the instrument cluster to Japan and it might cost over 1k to fix it, if it's even possible. Maybe you'll have better luck than me!
