OK EVERY BODY HERES ANOTHER LEYLAND SPECIAL FOR YOU TO INJOY ITS ALL ABOUT LEYLANDS G.CAB TRUCKS TERRIER,RIEVER,COMET,MASTIFF,BOXER,CLYDESDALE.PLEASE LIKE & SHARE
I still have my Grandad's 1974 Boxer which was a cattle wagon. I'm going for a full restoration in the coming summer months and putting a box on the back to tour and live in for a while!!
I live a couple of miles from the site of the old Leyland factory in Bathgate ( Now a housing scheme) I can remember the new trucks parked around the factory, rows and rows of white G cab trucks waiting to get shipped around the world.
Drove a Terrier back in '79 JFS529T. The gear lever went into the cab floor so far behind the driver's seat that the H pattern was almost vertical...the company also had Clydesdales XWU541-3S which although long gone are listed on DVLA as Leyland 'Scotstouns' The Terrier is listed as a Leyland 'Redline'..
My brother and i worked for Davis Haulage Smethwick West Midlands and the had a few of these trucks on the fleet and on the hole were a good strong working vehicle, the main issues were with mechanical engineering and design of parts,my brother being an HGV mechanic and working on them week in and week out were broken parts and problems getting replacements from suppliers, some issues could have been rectified at the factory and create a real good range of trucks, these vehicles proved themselves being bought buy all types of businesses and also in Europe, Leyland trucks had more success than the car production, also with design and parts failure which ruined the car reliance and sales in the UK and Europe,my overall favourite was the triumph Stag, sadly falling short of rivals due to performance and reliability though a brilliant looking car from all angles, Britain had a good motor industry but it could have been brilliant and should have.
What no skip wagons !! .....my dad got a brand new one of these a Clydesdale in 1976 , it was fitted with the then dreaded "spy in the cab" tachograph , although then due to come into force in 77, his previous wagon was a Leyland Lynx was far better than the Clydesdale which was a Leyland Super Comet but with a different cab .
I can remember the firm my dad drove for had a little Leyland terrier dropside truck never appreciated it wish I had taken photos and they had a Leyland clysdale curtansider they would be true classic now
@@andrewbird1977 It was a bugger having to drive the Terrier on a local run on a Saturday after driving a new F7 in the week..the Terrier had no power steering and almost caught me out on a tight bend - heck of a thing to drive
@@garethifan1034I don't think any non HGVs had power steering in those days we had all Ford D series and they certainly didn't - first ones to have it were the Cargos I remember
