Holy schnitzels this worked. I waited almost 6 years to get the pics of my sons birth off my dead LG G4. Took less time to to do this fix than it did to transfer all my pics off. My wife is unbelievably happy. You see, my phone died (boot loop) just after we took pics of her giving birth. It died in the delivery room. We thought they were lost forever. Thanks!!!
This is best video I've seen on youtube for DIY LG G4 bootloop repair, and also excellent honest advice - that this is only temporary repair and all important data should be transferred out of the phone immedietly. I would suggest if you can't get a hot air rework station, at least "calibrate" the hot air gun by putting a piece of lead free solder on a penny and see how long it takes hot air gun to melt it.
OMG! it only bloody worked! first ever yt self-help vid I've watched from start to finish & I was so surprised I nearly dropped the fone after it powered up 👍🏻
This worked perfectly for me, thank you so much!!! I bought a $14 heat gun from a discount hardware store, and used it on the low setting. I was worried how long to heat it, and how close, so I literally played your video while I copied your movements. I didn't have any thermal paste, so I skipped that step for now. But I reassembled it, put the battery in, and it powered up without problem!
@@user-xs2uj5fy2t probably not. Just reheating (with out flux) does not work because broken solder joints temporarily touch to make the phone work, but stress and current eventually break the temporary bond and phone breaks again. That's why the guy used foil to push the chip and make it last bit longer
The internal design of the G4 is so practical, I remember how it's a pain in the ass to open a Samsung S9. You're amazing for finding the solution, you may have stopped the beginning of LG downfall if you had found this solution earlier.
I bought a battery by itself like others did but that not works for me, so I found your video, watched and close it after I memorize what you did now I am here saying THANK YOU!
granted the title may be slightly misleading, as per everyone's hurt feelings here, this was a darn good tutorial. Completed in about 10min, so far seems to be working. Good stuff.
Finally resolved my boot issue with this phone. Thank you for this video. I have an extra glorified music player, now. My equipment: fingernail, small Philips head, Dyson hairdryer, small piece of paper, and aluminum foil. Wish I had this fix 4 years ago.
@@user-xs2uj5fy2t No probably not. All these reheating chip methods do not address fundamental issue of oxidized cracks in solder balls. reheating only temporarily bridge the gap.
I have an LG G6 for almost 3 years and it's working perfectly, LG fixed this Boot loop problem, their latest smartphones don't have these problems anymore, you can buy one and use it for how long you want.
@@sonicfanfirst I called LG Spain and despite of knowing that was a massive fabrication problem of thousands of LG G4 around the globe they denied to fix me the motherboard... OK I will never buy LG and I will never recommend LG to any friends/family... that's fair!
@@jexanderarvelo3277 mine and my mother and my friend is LG G4 and didn't take even 2 years and got this issue and cant run them again it keep freeze and restarts till it get really hot. Which force me to take the battery out.
Yeah, just be sure to look for a new phone right away. Did it 3 times, phone worked for 2 days each time and then completely died with no signs of life :D
It also works with hairdryer for 5 mins. It wasnt so unbearable hot. I used a thin chocolate carton paper (usually premium chocolates and 200g chocolates have carton paper) instead of business card. And I used wrigley's gum alu paper as heat sink, and I used a simple paper glue to stick it in place. It was totally okay for that 15 mins while I saved all my data from internal storage.
Awesome!! Thanks iSmart for this helpful video This method can also be helpful to other series of LG phones with the same boot loop problems. I've changed my LG G Flex 2 Battery and it only worked for a month then started to boot loop again. Problem - CPU over heat when it restarts and wants to resume opened applications. Solution - Put it inside a deep freezer for about 3 mins, then once your phone starts, close opened apps specially CPU demanding apps and WiFi. You can "under volt the CPU" for a permanent solution :)
Swap batteries to fix the LG4 bootloop? I understand why a loose processor would cause the boot loop, but why would a different battery solve the problem?
Thanks for the instructions. I just funneled hot air for 5 minutes on the processor using a common hairdryer. It worked immediately! I use an Lg g Flex 2 which kept working properly for 3 years. Then started the bootloop, which made it very hard for the device to start. And when it managed to start, it would only work for a few minutes until it would start rebooting continuously and so becoming useless. Unfortunately I kept insisting to try to turn it on and even managed to do the factory reset, until the device became quite dead. One day it stopped turning on and did not charge even. So then I replaced the battery because, like it is mentioned on this video, I heard that it could solve the problem of the bootloop, but nothing happened. It remained dead and would not charge either. I don't know what would have happened if I had replaced the battery immediately when the bootloop started. So just using the hairdryer for 5 minutes made it work! It immediately started charging and turned on and works properly for the moment. I don't know how long will it last, but if it dies again I know that I can repair it by replacing the motherboard. Tip : I used aluminum foil on the end of my hairdryer to create a tube with a smaller diameter to make it more effective.
@@dominicksoto6390 Yes, it worked for me! Unfortunately it was temporary, even if I installed a new battery. It lasted for 4 days (stopped working yesterday). But during these 4 days it was working properly and it was able to charge. On the 4th day it stopped working. It would not switch on and if I tried to turn it on, it would only display the LG start logo and then would power off again. So today I repeated the procedure. I used the hairdryer again to heat up the processor and voila! It works again!!! So what should I do? How many times should I repeat that fix with the hairdryer? I think it would be best to install a new motherboard for a permanent fix.
@@user-xd3hr2bn3s Well, it was a temporary fix only. It worked again for 4 days and then died. So I bought a new motherboard for 30 euro from Aliexress, installed it myself and my phone works perfectly until this day. The conclusion is that this kind of video was very instructive and helped me take the initiative and start fixing phones by myself. Now I can build G4s from scratch. You can assemble your own G4 for just 80 euro, buying each part separately from Aliexpress.
Hi my name is john patrick palisoc iwant you to know that video is so awsome itry this tutorual in my lg and wow it works !!thank you for this video . Iwant to learn more came from you :)
Easy fix! Thank you so much for uploading this video brother's phone had this problem and he asked me if i could fix it for him at first, didn't work but that was because I was being extra careful with heating the components (only heated the cpu for 2 mins/overrated my hair dryer) but heating it for 6~mins solved the problem! Thanks again
If you have hair dryer , it is a good Idea to get tin foil wrap it around the top of the hair dryer and help you focus the heat better and help Direct the heat on the processor as opposed to everywhere , because the hair dryer is not as intense as the heating gun.✌
Yes but hair dryer doesn't get hot enough. Best to get a digital cooking thermometer for few bucks and test how hot your hair dryer gets. It needs to be at least 240 deg C to melt lead free solder. If you use hair dryer or hot air gun and don't get temperture hot enough to melt lead free solder, there is good chance LG G4 will simply go completely dead because heating simply made cracks grow wider.
Thank you for this. Fixed mine by heating the cpu chip with hot air gun at about 250 degree celsius for 3 minutes and i put thermal pad 2mm thick on the chip but it had too much pressure maybe 1.5mm would do. Phone is now running with no issues 4 days from now
Tip : DONT use the fast charger provided in the box. It gives 9 volt in the super charger mode wich is degrading the battey quickly and causing overheating issues. Use a standars 5v 2a charger or even better put the cable into usb port on your laptop or computer. Its not worth gambling, forget the super charger.. Heat kills electronic components and battery and causes the boot loop
The principal is sound. I am not saying you did this wrong. On the contrary, it's excellent. If I may offer a couple of points for your interest...? Seeing as how there already isn't much room in the phone for stuff, a more permanent fix, would be to ditch the cardboard, business card, or whatever, as it is more of an insulator, than the tin foil. Doing a 2, 3 or 4 layer of only the tin foil to fill in the tiny gap, won't have a tendency to push the back side of the processor against the back of the screen, with too much force (and at this scale of tolerance, it is considered BRUTE force!). The biz card is what makes it a less than idea solution, on several levels. Ditch it. You also might use thermal paste, instead of what you did use, even though nothing is intended to be applied anywhere, inside these phones. Thermal paste has the best chance at filling this role, as it does not interact with motherboard/SMD materials, and will contribute to the heat transfer. Thank you for this tutorial, and I hope you will accept my comments in the spirit of fostering the continuing the conversation, between those of us in the tech-space.
Another suggestion would be to use hot air rework station, not general purpose heat gun. It's easy to fry motherboard using powerful general purpose heatgun without any temperature control.
Thanks for this. My G3 has just died in the past week. I may just try this trick. I don't have much to lose, except the money to buy another phone. I fear that it's gone past this point though.
Hi, ismart I have been watching your videos for a long time now, I have what is practically a brand new LG G4 it is the best version of the LG G4 phone you can get, it is the one from India, I can't remember now, I think it's the 820 or something, it takes two SIM cards but in your video, you mentioned the possibility of getting a new battery sorting out the Boot loop, I wonder if you can help me decide, if perhaps my phone is suitable for the new battery because it will not charge and when I get a small change into it for like half a minute maybe it will go into a bootloop but someone else,I also said to me that at the fact that mine will not charge is more symptomatic with needing a new battery what do you think. I always liked the phone and it was a pretty good phone the camera was second to none actually at the time they were around 2 I think they were supposed to be the best camera in the world at the time all of the phones lunch but I have a lot of information and pictures in the phone that I would like to get out plus I would also like to get the phone going again what do you think
I got an easy fix...its called Return it for free repair ! Lol no seriously for real i just returned it at the beginning of october this year i didnt have to pay a dime they said just put it in a box that fits with the paid for shipping label that all i had to do was print and tape up to the box. Just days later they handed me back my lg g4 FIXED (new motherboard) with fresh new battery and i didnt have to pay a dime! Even when my phone was wayyyy out of warranty..lg has extended regular warranty 2 more years cos of this huge known issue im so glad i sent it in to be fixed for free now my phone works like brand new :)

Can you guys please help me get a replacement of my bootlooped phone. Say that let me know what they say
What temperature is your gun? What temperature for how long? Plus, if the issue was not loose contact but only heat transfer during boot, could we put the phone in freezer for some time and then turn it on?
hello, my lg is working thanks to your tuto but the phone is getting soooo warm when im using it (i fix it 1h ago). Should i stop using it in this condition ?
Hi this Is Valerio from Italy. I'm facing a new issue with my zuk z2 pro. I was using my phone normally. I didn't install any new app or upgrade of any kind. After I switched off my mobile restarting it's stuck on zuk logo and instead of charging os It won't boot and recharges zuk logo. Hello! Thank you for the tip! Unfortunately it worked for 5 min, then it got back to the boot loop. What else may be done? Should I apply heat for more time? I used a hairdryer. If this is a temporary fix, what would a permanent fix be?
Don't use hair dryer - temperature is too low to reflow lead free solder. Get cheap hot air rework station like no-brand 858D (on ebay for around $35). If you use general utility heat gun (like in video), it may work but you can easily fry the motherboard as temperature is not controlled.
@@cristianene164 To be honest, even with best hot air reflow station, you can get only temporray fix on LG G4. Why? Because of the unusually crappy lead free solder used by LG for it's ram chip on LG G4. Note, that for LG G3, just reflowing ram/cpu chip stack can produce good results. LG G3 had better quality solder and hence far fewer bootloop failures can be seen. But for LG G4, only permanent solution is to desolder the ram chip and resolder it using good leaded solder. That unfortunately takes good skill with micro soldering.
Did this a few times, still stuck in Boot loop also replaced the battery. Wish LG would have just replaced any phone that has this issue. I lost 200 bucks, phone was only 90 days out but turned to be out of the 1 year warranty.
I was just trying to get some files from my old phone and was confused by how my phone kept saying boot failure when it worked fine a couple months ago. But then again left it in a heat storage so :/
