G4! I'm moving at some point in the next year and planning on getting myself a swanky new TV as a housewarming gift to myself, and I feel like 2024 has me spoiled with all the great options. Thanks for the review!
Next year i am sure the G5 will be out. I only bought the LG G1 just 3 years ago and it was the best TV around. Every year so far afterwards it was LG G2(2022), G3(2023), now G4(2024). I have no doubt will see another update version next year and the year after that. Love my LG G1 and it has all the ports I need and I love the brilliant picture this TV overs! Until my LG G1 can't keep up with today's gaming, movies and bluetooth abilities I don't see myself rushing to go upgrading it anytime soon. I purchased this G1 because OLED is the best and they longevity and quality where nothing else comes close!
Great video review! Appreciate the time and work you put into this video! You mentioned every category and small detail! Keep it up please. Maybe a side by side comparison to the G3 or mention what the differences were to you?
I have viewed this TV model in a showroom, and it just leaves all the rest standing. So well designed the aluminium frame still looks ageless and the 2nd gen MLA with 144hz is a gamers dream. Let's see if this will end up being TV of the year...
@@Lewis-jn8ry It's not a big deal but it still makes a decent amount difference. 144hz feels smoother than 120hz and it's noticeable, at least for me (this is probably subjective). I doubt a 240hz 4k TV like this will be coming out soon. First off, HDMI 2.1 doesn't have the bandwidth for 4k@240hz + 10bpc - so a lot would need to happen to get it to work well.
Just wanted to say thanks for your coverage of the G4. Your glowing words on the G4 (along with reviews from other creators) helped me make the decision to get this TV. I went for the 83 and got it yesterday. It is insanely, mind-blowing good. I am way more impressed than I even thought it would be. I upgraded from a 77 CX and did not expect such a huge difference, but this thing is worth every penny. Thanks again!
Thanks, planning on it! Quick question though, where is the setting for dynamic tone mapping? I could not find it and while you mentioned it, did not see it in the video.
So one of the big sticking points for me and a lot of friends/relatives is that the LG OLEDs before the G4 had colors that looked really washed out and details were very much lost in darker areas of the screen. This was SUPER obvious in a campfire scene in the Harrison Ford period cowboy show on Apple TV - you couldn’t see anything besides the fire and faces. This wasn’t an issue with Sony’s A95L. Details in dark scenes is something almost no reviewer talks about - just “blacks are so black”. So how does the G4 stack up to the Sony OLED flagship in this regard? Looking to buy my first nice TV and this factor might sway me to get the A95L until I can see a G4 in person...
Great video, G4 is fantastic, in my opinion it will be affordable in 1 year, right now the G3 is the winner in price. G4 costs a lot more than it is better. Approximate prices: 65G3 2200USD 65G4 3400USD 77G3 3300 USD 77G4 4600USD.
agree mate. have the lg g3 77 inch also. not worth to upgrade. its only 100 nits brighter. if you are a pc gamer. yeah go for it. 144hz while the g3 is 120hz. but i am a console gamer. not worth to upgrade. also wrgb oled is on the limit. can be much better. i wait till next year or 2026. hopefully blue ph oled !
Lool im just waiting for the order and made the exact same change from 65CX to 77G4 😂 cant wait to get it i hope ill be shoked from the quality difference
Do you have a PS5? Have you noticed any issues with VRR when playing 120fps games? I’ve had it with Gran Turismo 7 but not sure if I have a faulty unit
I just bought the lg g3 83 inch but ended up returning it because the whites weren’t true white. It had a blueish/greenish tint to it. Also when viewing the tv in different viewing angles, it shift to a very strong blue/green hue color. And tended to look super dark. Does the g4 have any of these issues?
I have a 77 inch G3. I don't have any of the problems you mentioned. This may be related to the MLA panel, because no matter how narrow the viewing angle I make, the accuracy of the colors is almost the same. I can't say anything exactly about whites because WOLEDs have white subpixels, not a mixture of red, green and blue like QD-OLED. But I still don't think white looks like that. Regarding brightness, there is no MLA on 83 inches, so that might be the reason.
The G4, especially in the 77" & 83" size range is the absolute best looking tv for movies & gaming on earth! It even excels above the excellent A95L... Honestly can't see how the G4 can be improved upon going forward....
There will be better TVs 🤦🏿. A95L and s95d are preferred by otheres This incessant fan boying is annoying. There will be no innovation if we keep thinking like this.
I'm not sure if I like those A.I. features. They don't seem like a selling point yet and are more kinda gimicky. A.I. to me is not up to a level yet where it can enhance audiovisual content in a personalized manner. Then again, I don't think I would like to train an A.I. model with my personal preferences if it's owned by commercial companies.
Thanks for the review Andrew 👍 I'm still the proud owner of a 65" C9 and loved watching it every day since i got it,never had a issue with it up till a few days ago with a firmware update. The mongrels have take away fta tv on startup which is to say it no longer defaults to the tv tuner when you switch it on,you now get the homescreen from which you have to select live tv. 😡I have toyed with the idea of updating to the G series for a few years but never felt a compelling case till now to actually do it. The latest processor on the G4 really seems to have closed the gap with Sony to the point where there is no wrong answer between the two brands. I'm eyeing an upgrade to a 77" G4 if one of the retailers are in the mood to negotiate.
I just got the g3 on hefty discount and it’s amazing I’m sure there are improvements but I’m so happy with my new tv. Hope everyone who gets one enjoys the g4.
I bought the 77" G4 on a discount which will be delivered within 2 weeks. Going to wallmount it. What thin 4k ultra high speed HDMI cables, do you reccommend to make the installation slim, just having the cable canal from the mid routing all the 4 HDMI cables to console,PC,Nvidia shield etc?
I have the Sonos Arc soundbar under my LG G2 tv in the bedroom. That soundbar is a beast! It really has impressive Dolby Atmos sound. I also have a LG C1 in my living room. I think I will upgrade that tv in 2028 unless I get problems with it.
I wonder most people mount the TV at picture frame height. Yes this looks nice, but it's bad for watching. When the head is held straight, humans looks towards to the ground at a vertical angle of about 15 degrees. You also don't put a TV with a stand on furniture that is over one meter high.
Hi, thanks for another great video. I have even larger windows behind the sofa and facing the TV, so I am considering getting the Samsung S95D. Are you planning to test it in your living room. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
Samsung doesn’t support Dolby Vision, so choose between the G4 or the Sony A95L depending on whether you care about gaming or just want to watch TV and movies
Kind of a bummer that the UI is still sluggish with all this processing horsepower. It’s not the end of the world, but at this price point, I’d expect instant response from the remote.
Picture quality is a toss up between the two, you won’t be able to tell the difference after calibration unless you’re looking at them side by side. I auditioned both models at my local AV store and picked the G4 as a result, because I needed four HDMI 2.1 ports.
Depends on your needs. LG G4 is better than Sony because it has four full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports that each support 4K@144 Hz. Picture quality is a toss up between the two, you won’t be able to tell the difference after calibration unless you’re looking at them side by side. I auditioned both models at my local AV store and picked the G4 as a result.
G4! WOW Andrew the G4 sounds incredible! I have the c2 and I love its picture quality with the Apple TV 4K so the G4 must be out of this world! :) The only thing that bugs me slightly with the c2 is if I display a white screen, the right hand side is slightly brighter than the left - noticeable when I'm watching skiing & snowboarding :) is this panel uniformity? I don't notice it any other time so I'm guessing that it's LG and the c2 mass production quality control bloops! :) For OLED the G4 really seems to be the one to go for! Paul
This TV and the S95D are built for movie enthusiasts and PC gaming. Otherwise I say go for the Hisense U8K or the newer U8N hell even the U7K or U7N. Both the U7/U8N both do 144hz gaming and are Mini LED with QD and 1500 to 3000 nits. So most people in my opinion should go for those tvs.
Samsung doesn’t support Dolby Vision, so I picked the G4, instead. I do have many movies in Dolby Vision format, and I’m not sure why Samsung doesn’t support the format
How to get table mount for this oled G4 65 inch tv bcuz recently i have purchased this model in 65 in but its without table stand . Is there any website or some where i can order?
I have had a calibrated 77" LG CX for about 4 years now, and I always want to see how far the technology has come and figure out when I should upgrade. I actually bought a S95B a while back and returned it, tried an S95C and returned it too, yes it is brighter, it has 144Hz support, better colors, I did notice black crush probably because I am comparing it to my calibrated CX, but that aside, I never see a "night and day" difference so I can't really justifying an upgrade....I am missing something??
No you are not, the steps are getting smaller and smaller. I have an even older C series and 90% of the plus point of this new TV are covered by mine, The only real difference is the brightness and the image 'repair' features which most purists don't use anyway. Oh, wait there a big difference but it us a plus for the older C TV's, it's responsive and smooth UI ; )
Not worth.... S95D spanks it in all regards and is same pric. S90D beats it while being cheaper... Don't support companies charging you full price for out of date tech... WOled had it's glory but qdoled just bests it. Lg is a fantastic TV they're just overpriced. If it was just under the price of s90D it recommend it highly otherwise don't touch that thing with a 10ft pole

I own the LG G1 for the past few years and I have no complaints. Been absolutely amazing. Not sure why after the G1 only came out 3 years ago why they are all the way up to G4 when the G1 just came out in 2021? Once you go OLED nothing else compares!
Did you notice the silver bezel reflecting off the tv while watching? One reviewer mentioned that and said it was distracting enough for him Not to keep the tv. 🤷♂️🤔
You can turn down brightness without impacting picture quality. I have mine set to 50% on my G4, because I watch in a dim room and it’s more than bright enough
2000 nits are more than enough...increasing brightness to 3000 is madless and may be it is not much comfortable to watch and finally people will go under the settings and start using comfort picture mode. buying G3 at better discounted price in 2024. i am having C1 which is 70% less brighter than G3 and I am still amazed with movie and sport viewing experience. Using Oled Since C8 then upgrade to C9 then C1. picture quality remain same for all LG OLEDs every year they are just making brighter panels. refresh rate matters for gamers 120ghz from C9 to C3 is enough
I'd avoid Samsung soundbars in general. They're buggy, constantly disconnect (especially if you have rear surround speakers). I'm not familiar with the LG ones unfortunately but all I can say is avoid Samsung.
Is it worth selling my c2 65 inch and buy og g4 77 inch/83inch on black friday? Or keep the c2 some few years more, when the technology is better. Or at the difference in picture Quality from c2 to g4 that HUGE
Andrew, thanks for your short and vivid introduction. I am just on the cusp of buying a new TV since my old LCD TV broke. I have been intrigued by LG G4. I have a few questions. I wonder if you can comment. I haven’t checked other comments below so apologies if you already answered them. Does G4 have Apple TV built-in? Is a standalone Apple TV box better? Any idea what refresh rates does Apple TV box produce? The same for iPad Pro M4 11” connected via a 2.1 HDMI cable? The challenge with this TV is deciding when to go manual and when to reply on AI. You are not the first to note that sometimes AI tuning does worse than expected. Thank you.
