Fantastic, simple, and easy to follow guide! I had no problem at all. The metal plate would not stick anymore so I removed the glue residue with cotton buds soaked with isopropanol and put a tiny bit of all-purpose glue in few spots, and waited for it to bond. Other than that - nice and easy :)
Warning! You want to be really careful with sucking tools! The display part comes not off as easily as it looks here when the phone is disassembled the first time (this phone probably has been opened before). When you pull too hard with the sucking tool, the display will detach from its frame. As it comes off more easily in the lower part than in the upper part, it will probably break. Then you face a more complicated display exchange, too. "Don't bend it too hard" is the most important message in this video. I suggest also watching other videos where they explain disassembling without using sucking tools
Great to the point and gave me the courage to pry the adhesive. I have super glue on the backing plate, I hope I don't need to do this a second time :-D
Great video man, thanks. The only thing I found with my repair is that the adhesive on the backing plate wasn't strong enough to hold the plate back in place. Any idea on how to "re-stick" it? Heating it didn't work, now I'm thinking of adding a type of superglue, is that a good idea? Thanks in advance
You may not have to. Just looking at this link, you can get the whole backing plate with power button and everything for $34 www.fixez.com/store/lg/lg-g5
Although you all have probably gotten new phones by now, it is highly recommenced that you use some kind of unsuperglue on these small device repairs. Search engine "phone repair adhesive" for some options.
My power button also stopped working. It would not restart the phone or read my fingerprint. I tried cleaning it, but without success. What I discovered in MY case, the battery had swollen, and where it fits inside the case, it's up against the power button. I found out If I pressed the power button extra hard, I could get the phone to restart. So, I figured the cramped space was the issue. I purchased a new battery, everything is working again.
Discovered a trick to boot up LG G5 without the power button. Remove sim/sd card tray and reinsert just as you're connecting the charging cable. May have to do it 20 times before it boots, but it will eventually turn on. Great phone, despite the power button "design flaw". Please share.
My powerbutton stopped working out of nowhere... Is there any problem with the screen afterwards? My Xperia Z's screen wasn't sticking well after I repaired it :/ Thank you for the video by the way! Greetings from Germany!
Great video but I realized my problem wasn't the power button.. the fingerprint scanner still worked but the functions of the button didn't. it was one of the gold pins on the motherboard. One was missing. Then I touched the one beside it and it popped out and I wasn't able to find it. Why would they make this so easy to fall out? I've seen many ppl complain of the same issue and I'll bet one of their pins fell out too
My button stopped working. but I don't know if it's the button itself, I mean I didn't drop it, or got it wet or anything like that, simply out of the blue the button stopped working :( it feels the same but it does nothing... it's such a shame because I really really loved this phone, I have 2 batteries and all, I was thinking in getting the cam plus and the hi fi, but after only 2 months, using always a case and without even a fall or anything like that the button stopped working :(. If it weren't for the cameras I would definitely switch brands :( .
Smart Easy Repair Thank you, I kinda know what might have happened, not so sure tho, I got a new case for the phone a rubber one and I used it for a couple of days, I noticed that the material made me sweat a little while the phone was in my pocket, you know a couple times I would take out the phone and it had some sweat in it. My guess is that MAYBE some sweat might have gotten into the button and this broke it. Is that a possibility?
AlXV yeah it is possible that maybe some moisture got in there and corroded it, you may just need to check the connection make sure there's no corrosion.
I just replaced my button and it works perfectly for turning on and off the phone now, but the fingerprint sensor isn't working. Did I do something wrong or is it a bad replacement part?
I dropped mine and the power button and the volume rocker have both stopped working. Is there another way to power it down, or can I just whip the battery out?
The Metal Plate behind the power button is very loose and keeps falling out when I takeout the battery. I have taken phone apart several times and tried to put metal plate back in its position but it will not stay in place. Is there a fix ?
muchas grasias no te entendy nada pero segui tus pasos me suscribo a tu canal personas como tu si balen la pena de ber yo pensaba que mi celular ya no servia pero gra tienes tu like y me suscribo grasias saludos desde peru
+adriane rossel It might make it a little more difficult. If there is glass pieces that want to fall out you could tape them together with packaging tape before you take it apart.
So my g5 died, and I don’t know what’s going on with it. So I got a new back housing with the power button and put it on and it didn’t turn on or charge. So I got a new battery and it still won’t work. Any idea?
I have change my power button but it gives me error that enrollment was not completed fingerprint enrollment didn't work.try again or use a different finger.
you can try pressing both volume and home buttons for a little bit longer period. Than should sense the vibration and release quickly. It should bring up a boot menu. Than choose weather restart or power off. LG has a lot of tricks like that.
Actually you can power off your phone using the touch assistant in accessibility options. If you can't figure that out then you probably should take your phone to a repair shop rather than trying to fix it yourself.
