Very Helpful. My Compressor was running but no cold air. LG has a known issue with their compressors being trash. A repair guy told me that if you get 5 years out of an LG you've done alright. He also recommended cutting my losses and getting away from LG. I bought a Whirlpool because they have service available in my area. LG and Samsung do not have service in my area. Oh, and I was 6 months past my 5 year warranty. So that means I am on the hook for labor. They cover compressor costs. After days of troubleshooting and escalating my case, we just went ahead and bought a new fridge. However, LG came back and said they would cover parts & labor for me as a 1 time assist. So now, I have a really expensive garage fridge in my future. LOL. Whatever. Anyways, thanks for the video.
If you get 5 years out of any modern appliance you've done alright. That's what he should have told you. Nonetheless their fridges and dishwashers are junk.
On the second press of the test button it is INTENDED to show 22 on the front to indicate that it is in test mode 2. The 22 is normal for test mode 2 and not an error code.
French door LG its a good fridge with a defective compressor, IT last about 5 years. IT DOESN'T HAVE A RELAY THERE, LIKE THE OLDER FRIDGES, ITS JUST A THERMAL AUTO FUSE, HAS AN INVERTER IN THE BOARD THAT CONTROLS THE COMPRESSOR, I INSTALLED ABOUT 1000 COMPRESSORS LIKE THIS.
@@TheFrenchPug Sears? only they know, I do charge for labor and the filter drier that has to be changed when open seal system, LG will pay back for the compressor if you have the purchase receive for proof. (with an LG authorized servicer)
It wasn’t my problem. There was no clicking but I still got the error 22. So now thinking it’s just the compressor. It is 10 years old though so should be happy it has lasted this long. Now off to buy a new fridge.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. U have help me fix my frig. Since is Xmas time. I didn’t have to spend a lot of money and be broke. So my kiddos can again have a good Xmas presents. Thanks!!!
I just bought the LFCS27596S yesterday. It is only after I purchased it that I did some research because I am used to bosh and never got any problems. I can cancel my order. I am wondering if your fridge died ?
I just got one of these 4000$ refrigerators for free! It has the same problem. It stopped cooling. I tried the test mode and came up with the same error code 22. I hope it's just that relay you are talking about because that is a easy fix! In test mode the compressor seems to be running and fan is running. But when reset it won't do anything. Did the relay on the compressor work? Someone please comment if it fixed yours. This was a very helpful video! Thanks for sharing! Mine looks almost exactly like yours! My model number lfxc24796d/00 please reply of the relay on the side of the compressor solved your problem! Thanks again!
also had code 22 but the board was no good. Test for 200vac at 2 pins to the right on con1 for compressor. Unplugged connector/ after pressing test button once. It ramps up to 118vac not enough. Also no led indicator lights on board. If you have a 22 you need to take extra steps to rule out pcb board.
So grateful for you sharing your great experience to help. I had code 22 replaced the relay. I think it's working now. But the code 22 still pulls up when testing. Is there a way to reset?
@Rayrock Relay replacement didn't work. I spoke with LG code 22 doesn't have a meaning... it that is just a default number.... if you look up on LG website there are many models that had defective compressors. There was a class Acton lawsuit. This lawsuit had LG replace compressors at no cost for parts or labor as long as the unit is less that 5 years old. Repair will be warranties for that time period also. I had mine repaired works great.
Great video! Tons of info.! I just Love my LG! Style and space saving is Not to be compared! All my LG appliances are super reliable! Have this same fridge, it is about 5 years old now. Still runs good but after watching many of these videos I know I am on borrowed time. I choose the counter depth fridge, also I recessed it into the kitchen wall for traffic access with air flow venting. Any problems and I will fix it myself. Great video Again! Thanks! Subscribed! 2 Thumbs UP!
I'm finding that although there is power going through my fridge (the lights are on inside) I'm NOT hearing any motors or whirring sounds from it it just seems dead, I may have left the door open by mistake for some hours, what could be wrong? ps my fridge is older & does not have an on board computer
Before you buy that part you need to test it. My fridge had the exact same 22 code and I bought this part they call the relay. That was not the issue. They even call this a starter relay and it is not one. It is a overload relay for heat overload and if it is bad you will hear a click every now and again.
@@barryjohns1965 I bought the relay that was not it I returned it,It was the compressor which was lucky because LG had a 10 yr warantee on compressors I was 6 months short of the limit so they came and installed a new compressor for free! I got lucky!
@@smedleybutler1969 that’s because 22 means you’re testing the second stage test code if it was an Error it would say E22 not 22 just like when you test 3rd stage when you press the reset button it will read 33
I had a "CL E" code on my LG French door. I cleaned rear door and filter itself. Code has gone, hopefully that was the issue. I have read that this code is for leaked issues but I hope was just dust on filter and rear door.
So, this is weird. I have Error 22/33 which is bad compressor relay, but my fridge runs. non stop. To the point the fridge part turned into a freezer. So, I have a glorified deep freeze lol I took apart the lower part of my fridge to get to that relay on the compressor, talked to an appliance part shop, and after I told him the issue, he said it could be a bad relay on the board. I took the fridge a little more apart to get to the board, removed the board and inspected both sides. Everything seemed fine, and I found the test button. Figuring I was going to have to replace the board anyway, I figured what harm is it to press the button? So, I pressed the button. I like buttons, don't judge. I was curious about the chip with the large heat sink, so I took off the heat sink, wiped off the thermal paste, and looked up the part number. The chip is for the blower motors. I reapplied some fresh thermal paste and stuck the heat sink back on there. Looked up some other parts like the relays and various other chips. Once I was done, I replaced everything, plugged the fridge back in...and it works. Dunno, maybe unplugging it for the time it took me to do all that was enough? Maybe hitting that button (that your video pointed out was a test button) did the trick? Maybe something needed to cool down? Shouldn't have, had the stinking thing for almost 2 years, why would it want a rest now? At any rate, it's now on a trial run while I order up a new board to have on standby. Good video, learned a bit.
How do you like the LG fridge? Ihave mine, French door, for 8 years. Replaced compressor on 2nd year. Now temperature is off at both freezer n fridge, -20 and 40. Debating if I should get a new one or fix. LG is not as reliable as Kitchenaid which runs for 30 years non stop in my garage.
First feel the compressor. If it is running the relay is not the problem. There are multiple causes for this problem. The relay is probably the easiest and cheapest.
So, thank you for the video. We have gone through the tests. On the front of the fridge reports 22. - 22, so I am assuming it is the relay like your own. What is that part #? Where do you go to obtain that part? We live in Baja Sur, MX - about an hour north of Cabo San Lucas. We find ourselves fixing our appliances when necessary. Seems necessary. Thank you so much.
Please help me if you can Mr wizard ..I did all the test i can find here and google. The compressor makes a humming noise sounds normal gets warm to the touch?, fans work on mother board push test mode up and down compartment fans but that shuts off after mins of the light show on display panel. The fan works for condenser coil no error codes that show of front panel , I was able to produce a code pushing freezer and ice code 22 , The M board looks good visual, only one main fuse on mine i see , I never saw the mother board LED light up at all for anything. Issue is this plugged in to power got nothing but a fridge lights panel lighting panel display temp like normal. I hear the compressor come on but no blowing no cooling but seems like normal sound i guess seems to be something of a vibrate on compressor whats your thoughts . This LG fridge quit after wife said the freezer door was left open a inch for maybe 10 hours and she shut it and also cleaned it that night and then next morning ice melted from ice machine and no blowing no cold. I did a check on starter relay seems ok from continuity and compressor ohm reading about 10ohm if i did that right where you test pos leg to compressor 3 prong and ground. LG recall on compressor ironically this happen 4 years ago when trying to clean but it regained cooling. What the heck I'm stumped.
Your compressor gave out. They all 100% do. There are thousands of people online complaining about the exact same thing anywhere from 2 years to 5 years from purchase date. Getting mine done today. Waiting to get fleeced on labor charges from Sears.
@@TheFrenchPug Mine lasted since Nov 2014 to mothers day weekend 2023 so i guess i was lucky. I extended through new leaf-plessers appliance and they all say i will be credited in 30 days labor after i pay the tech . Compressor failure is still free of charge i believe through class action on compressor but i have major component and labor. waiting for part to get to tech 3-5 days
Hi Jerry, mine is doing all of the exact same things as yours... Compressor vibrates, condenser fan works, both fans (freezer and frig) work but no cold air, just warm air blowing. Did you ever figure out what was wrong with yours? Any advice would be appreciated!!
@@mikemd2697 It was the compressor , i had 2 months left of extended warranty that covered the fix.. They had a class action...If you own an LG French-door or side-by-side refrigerator manufactured between Jan. 1, 2014, and Dec. 31, 2017, you might be entitled to anywhere from $50 to more than $3,500 in compensation as part of a class-action lawsuit LG settled last week
Video really good thank you. Though I'm not sure what the prices for compressors were doing ten months ago when this was posted, the price is not a grand. They are running at around $350.
My fridge would cool to 60 and freezer to 40. I watched multiple videos and tried all the tips. All said and done, no change. Fans work, coil is clean and so on. Still won’t cool to where it should be. Everything is clean now and sounds normal but still won’t work. My LG French Door was built in 2017 and I called in my claim in Oct of 2022. Clearly out of warranty. Without an argument, LG is sending someone out this week (parts and labor included) at no charge. They will also reimburse me for food spoilage (take photos of the waist).
Same is happening to mine 05 2017 called today the left me high and dry. Maybe I have to talk to someone else? What should I do? Do you know what was wrong?
I have the same thing happening to my fridge. It is only 2 1/2 years old and LG told me they will only replace the compressor if the refrigerator is not cooling at all and not if it isn’t “cooling enough”and also I have to pay for labor. So my refrigerator is 50/60 degree F. that is not cooling to me. I don’t understand why I have to pay for labor. Can somebody help me. who do I need to call to get this done for free? Again, this is a brand new fridge. It is only 2 1/2 years old and started going bad about two months ago when I noticed it.
90 % of the time if not cooling or not much cooling the culprit its the compressor, few times can be the upper evaporator leaking or a evaporator fan stopped. If 5 years or less LG will fix it free after this you will pay for the labor and the filter and compressor can be claimed to LG with purchase receive. "Good fridge with a weak compressor."
Thank you our new friend. My bank card started to work today after cleaning/washing it and using carefully knife as well. Full support friends always together. Hope to see you always around 👉🎁💯🔙🏆🗺️🔝🏖️
Went to the appliance parts store, and the lady said is yours square or round. L G Kenmore elite can have either one. Well I didn't look. So I bought both $44 with shipping. 4 business days out of Texas. I can return the one I don't need. It's a regular breakdown part with LG. My freezer wouldn't get cold enough, and above 5 degrees the ice maker turns off. So the problem with ice maker and freezer are the same part. Error 22 22 compressor relay.
Model LFX31925SS. I just had a problem with my LG where the refrigerator was cooling but the freezer was not. I ran all the test you mentioned and got the 22 AND in Test Mode 3 I got a 33. I looked at the display and thought those numbers just indicated which test mode I was in. Who'd thunk, right? The freezer fan was not operating properly in Normal operation. But in Test Mode 2 the freezer fan would run. I did the temperature checks on the condenser coils and that was within normal spec when the compressor was running. Also, I did NOT get any of the Morse Code on the LED. When I got up the next morning the freezer had magically started to freeze during the night. ?????? I don't trust it to work properly anymore (it is between 10~12 y.o.), so we went and bought another refrigerator. $2700 and some change later I'm getting a new 'frige.......... P.S. I just got a reply from another poster that is telling that I WILL see that 22 & 33 on the display during the respective test modes. Oh well. Doesn't matter now.
In business Everything is a Service. When you buy a refrigerator, the refrigerator is the tool that the seller (company) uses to provide the service of reliable cold food storage. In this regard LG and Lowes have completely Failed. The LG refrigerator we bought from Lowes never worked right from the start. Lowes referred us to LG Customer (NO) Support. They made multiple appointments (not all kept) and replaced the compressor and a logic board, but the refrigerator side of the device will still not work. Now this two month old refrigerator is providing even worse Service than the Poor Service it was providing when it was delivered. If you value Service, save your Grand+ by not buying an LG and don’t buy an appliance from Lowes (their appliance support policy is the worst).
Mine is doing the same thing and I ran all the test and I’m not getting any Morse code lights. I ordered the relay for the Thermistor and put it on and still the same thing. Says fridge is at 33° And freezer keeps going back to eight for some reason. I ran the smart diagnosis through my LG app and it’s saying that the fridge is in defrost mode. That’s actually what I typed in in my RU-vid search bar. This is where itbrought me. I got two young children and they are both shitting like squirrels because I milk is not exactly cold. So you can imagine my frustration. Any help would be great
Thanks for the great video. My fridge is LFXS29766S. This is the seventh year. The compressor was replaced a few years ago when still under warranty. It stopped working again this weekend. after replacing the start relay, the code 22/33 still shows up, but it is cooling and making ice. any thoughts on why the error code does not disappear?
Mine is doing the same thing... Compressor is vibrating, condenser fan is working and both the frig and freezer fans are working but it is warm/hot air only, it's not getting cold. Did you figure out what was wrong with yours? Thank you!
@@mikemd2697did you figured it out, having the same issue, my mother told me she was cleaning it and got water on the controls (water/ice selector) and the screen blinked. Everything runs just fine but not cooling.
I’m getting a 22 error compressor is little warm faintest vibration but that could be from fan running though , where did you find part number for relay I’m going to try that first
@@tonydijock151 My compressor is running but it's extremely hot to the touch. Internal fans are working fine and condenser fan is ok. Turned out to be the notorious compressor. I hope yours was an inexpensive fix.
Hi. quick question when i removed the fridge compartment cover to look for the fan, there is no fan, rather a door that opens and closes to allow cold air from the bottom to flow upwards. please explain
...so just to clarify. The clicking sound would only be caused by a bad relay & not the compressor itself? The clicking sound is the only thing that stands out in my home like a sore thumb. Other than that, my fridge sounds quiet in regards to the fan and I believe a humming sound. LG is scheduled 📅 for a repair visit this coming week because my fridge stopped cooling, lost all of food 1 day after grocery shopping. 😑
@ace launiu I think the coils go bad because they get plugged up with the material from inside the compressor. From I read. I don't think there are many comments from just coils going bad but good luck. Hope it's just that.
I have exactly same problem as you I did replace overload switch that is on the compressor .compressor works when doing tests as does fans . The capacitor and start relay are on the pcb board . Thermistor / overload I replaced .. have to replace capacitor on pcb board
My compressor is working. Fan is spinning. Freezer fan is working. Fridge fan doesn’t seem to be working but food is cold. My problem is the food in the freezer isn’t freezing! I have no error codes. Clicking the button on the board only works once. Like it only tests once. I can’t figure out the issue
Thanks for the detailed video. I tried replacing the thermistor based on Error 22 and still the fridge and freezer won't cool. So will the next step be replacing the PC board? Model LG: LFXS24663S
I replaced but did not worked, I found that error code is related to Relays, cables that connect the relays with the compressor, or the compressor itself, in my case the compressor sound working, but it seems that could be defective
great video my LGLFXS29766S THREE DOOR 2016 MODEL YEAR , not cooling cleaned the condenser and did the test over the phone that is to tell you what's wrong why it is not cooling or freezing ,they told me everything checked out no codes from there test ,a waste of time and no one in my buffalo ny, will even come look at this piece of junk , so i did the test on the motherboard compressor very light vibration and fan works ,so i check for fridge fans they seem to be working ok i do not get any light flashes from test board , did look like a code 22 one of the times i did the test on front of fridge , friend of mine who fixes fridges looked at it and said they will not look at them he told me it is possibly the main jaz board , so i ordered one and the capacitoras well waiting for parts to come next week hope it does the trick maybe I'll order the relay also just to cover all my bases , hope it does the trick , just glad we have a beer fridge in the garage ill drink all my beer to make room for all the food and freezer food 😅
I had the same issues a couple years back. The noise was coming from the freezer fan rubbing against built up ice. It was a cheap and simple fix: Unplug for about a day to let the ice thaw and the. Adjust the front legs of the fridge to it tilts to the back. This will prevent water from sitting in the line and flowing out like it should
They do get very warm. To the point it's hard to leave your hand on it. If it's making a light hum, it's ok. But if you hear any swooshing noise,, the compressor is bad. The condenser coils will run 25~30 degrees over ambient when measured with a infrared thermometer like you test your forehead with. Should be 96~98 degrees.
This is what I got from a technician: When you open a door during normal operation, the fan may shut off in some models. So, you have to activate the door-switch as if the door is closed. And the fan should start blowing air within a minute. Test #1 cools both compartments. Test #2 cools just the freezer, and the control panel should show 22 22. Test #3 defrosts with the control panel showing 33 33. If during the Test the fan is blowing warm (room temp) air, this points to a serious Sealed System problem.
You may have a problem with your motherboard if you think your fan is working but not working when it’s supposed to that would be my guess I wish I could see the unit in front of me I will fix it for you for free keep on troubleshooting at
Did changing the PCB board solved the problem? I changed the start relay it didn’t work. I am gonna buy a new PCB board and get it updated with new software and see. But I wanna hear from you first. Thanks!!!
For me it worked I hope it works for u also what happened to refrigerators that used to last 30 years it just seems like they try to make them break down in about 5 to 10 years
@@KooperSalmo For real. Back to the days appliances last at least 10 plus years. Now I feel like manufactures deliberately make them last only a bit more than 5 years. My fridge just passed 5 and a half years. Thanks for replying!! Your videos rock!
My fridge is giving me a 22 code but I can feel the compressor vibrating so I think it’s giving me a false code. It’s cooling some but not as much as it should.
In Test Mode 2 you WILL get a "22" on the display and in Test Mode 3 you WILL see a "33". Other than that I can't tell you anything. Did you check the temps on the condensor coil. It might run 20~25 degrees above ambient. Measure it with an infrared thermometer like you use to check your temperature on your forehead. Mine was reading 97-98 degrees. Go look at poster "Your Self".
