@@stevebak90 That's true BUT, that's because Samsung - when they tout 17 speakers - is counting each of the three drivers that make up the left, middle, and right speakers in the front of the main soundbar as individual speakers. Each of the three drivers associated with the left are responsible for ONE sound source (same with the center and right). So, each of those sets of three counts as one in the 7.1.4
Just got mine a few weeks ago, absolutely incredible for a sound bar. Closest thing I’ve seen to an actually home theater set up. I’ve never gone past volume 18. The sub puts out more bass than you’d expect and it’s rich. The audio is extremely crisp and clear and so it the voices
im confused - original vs surround sound: original should mean it will play the source as intended including with the rears, correct? surround just means everything is just on all the time regardless of what happening on the tv? I also saw you had DRC enabled - i heard if you turn that off you'll get more volume from the bar and rears.
SOUND BAR TIPS : 1. E-ARC is not enabled by default on LG TVs, go to your sound settings and activated it, otherwise your hearing regular ARC 2. You need your own high speed HDMI cable with Ethernet to connect it, nothing comes with it 3. Wifi is only enabled to soundbar by setting up google assistance through your phone app. Once this is setup, you can then connect to soundbar through Lg speaker app 4. Hold down function button for 5 sec to activate the incredible demo and 5 seconds to turn off 5. The LG speaker app will tell you when Dolby atmos is enabled, see the sound effects when your playing a movie or supported content
When i connect apple tv 4k to & 4k blu ray to the hdmi ports on the back of sound bar it will not recognise them even with high speed hdmi cables , any ideas
I must have watched about a hundred videos on Atmos sound bars and those three are all great. I live in a small, one bedroom apartment, my living room is small so I dont need all of that nakamichi goodness , it's overkill for me. My tv is a 75inch nano-cell LG , so the LG sn11rg will go great with it to keep it all uniform.
David Almaraz my cousin have small apartement too but he use nakamichi shockwafe ultra 9.2 he say the sound really bass i think you must use nakamichi it cheaper than lg trust me
I bought it in Spain for 750 euros with promo store del corte ingles + promo lg. The bar sounds incredible, I am going to copy your calibration, I had everything at 0. Now it sounds better! Thank you! The bar is amazing. greetings from Spain !!
Sorry Jim but you have the facts about the Surround mode On/Off wrong. On means that every speaker will be used for all content. So even a mono source would be forced into 7.1.4 Off means that the rears will only work if the source is 5.1 or greater. In fact it is recommended to turn off surround mode for the authentic channels intended by the producers and directors of content. Hope this helps others who may have been confused.
Hi mate, Are you sure rear speakers outputs 5.1 in original mode? There are lots off discussion about sn11rg and q90r where the side firing speakers in the main bar is used as surround channels. So no sound from rear speakers if it is 5.1. If you use 7.1 or 7.1.4 sound tracks, you will get the rear speakers to work. Can you please confirm this in Standard vs Surround mode. Thanks.
Sorry I am not wrong. I literally have the physical system in my house. When the surround sound is off, no matter what I listen to, it only fires out the front. Also how the manual states. Once on, then anything I watch/listen to the rear surround sound system is all systems go. Then depends on if its 5.1 or anything else on how much sound comes from each area. Please let me do my job Thank you
@@jimmyispromo I have the system in my house and have surround off, as defaulted. I get rears on 5.1, 7.1, Atmos and DTSX only. The rest of the time it's just the bar. This is the same as the LG SL10YG with rears that I owned too. Surround makes everything use all the speakers. Not sure if your bar is different Jimmy as I'm confused now.
Seems strange that LG's 2020 soundbars include support for DTS:X when all of their 2020 TV's had their built-in DTS Decoders removed. One question though: has LG fixed their eARC lip-sync issues when playing Dolby content? This one a huge problem for their 2018/2019 soundbars. The video footage would always be 1 second ahead with the audio lagging behind, out of sync. This would happen with Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Atmos content when it was being played from the TV down the eARC to the soundbar or AV Receiver. Even the TV built-in Netflix and Amazon Prime apps suffered the same 1 second audio lag when audio was being played through the eARC.
hey Jimmy , there is a reason for the samsung soundbar to have just 2 hdmi s, this is because you have to connect your tv to the soundbar using the hdmi arc connection, and connect other hdmi devices to the tv, the sound will go over the hdmi arc to the soundbar once you slect an hdmi port from your tv, hdmi arc is your audi backloop to the soundbar. just enable. HDMI CEC on your tv, and your all set. your tv has to have hdmi arc ofcourse
Hey Jimmy. This (14:52) is incorrect. The 7 in 7.1.4 does not mean that there are 7 speakers inside the soundbar (though there are 7 in this case). The 7 denotes the number of speakers sending sound to you on a horizontal plane. 3 of those are in the front of the soundbar, 2 of them are on either end of the soundbar, and the final 2 (totaling 7) are the two front-facing speakers located in each of the rear surrounds. The 1 in 7.1.4 is indeed the subwoofer. And the 4 in 7.1.4 denotes the four upward-facing drivers, as opposed to the four "rear speakers" as you stated. This is an important distinction, as one can look at these numbers across any manufacturer's product and instantly know what they're dealing with. Again, the first number represents speakers sending sound on a horizontal plane, then the number of subwoofers and, finally, the number of speakers sending sound vertically (upward-facing). UPDATE: I see now that you have corrected this in your pinned comment. :)
May be slightly confused. I've never had a surround system. You skipped the hookup of the speakers. 1) Why did you use HDMI1 and not the EARC hdmi port? Or are they all EARC ports? 2) Why does the sound bar need 3 hdmi slots? The one going to the tv is the only one that matters right? 3) My Xbox One has two hdmi ports, one to connect to the tv and the other says from SAT/Cable. I'm not sure why I would need one for the cable bc the cable goes to the tv already. But there's no port on the back of the Xbox that would indicate the surround bar needs to be hooked up to that. 3) Do the side and back speakers just have power cables and they all are blue toothed to the main bar? 4) So as long as the power to the main bar is plugged in, the hdmi goes from the sound bar to the EARC port, the other speakers power cords are plugged in and blue toothed, that's all that needs to be done? Thanks
It's EARC but plugged into HDMI 1. The HDMI ports on the back is so everything goes though the soundbar itself. So the soundbar is plugged into my TV, then my components are plugged into the soundbar. Only thing to change is source on the soundbar. I didn't show every baby little step for setup of the speakers are it's common sense. The subwooferd plug into the wall. Both of them. Then the surround speakers plug into the subs. The subs BT to the Soundbar.
@@jimmyispromo Don't have to get an attitude. I've never had a sound bar. If I'm asking, it's apparently not common sense. For example, the only two slots on my Xbox for hdmi say to tv and to cable. There isn't one that says to sound bar. So that "component", can you just use the "to cable" slot and it'll work with the sound bar? If you've never had a sound bar, all of a sudden hooking up 5 or more speakers and all your components to it isn't common sense. Thanks for the rest of the info though. That helps and I'm less confused.
HOW WOULD YOU COMPARE THIS SYSTEM WITH THE TOP NAKAMICHI SYSTEM Nakamichi Shockwafe Ultra 9.2.4 Channel 1000W Dolby Atmos Soundbar THAT YOU REVIEWED A FEW MONTHS AGO?
I've had my eye on the Samsung Q90R and have been waiting for a bit of a price drop, but then again I didn't know about this LG model before watching your review. It looks REAL nice and I really like the app functionality in particular. Will have to go hear this at Best Buy or something! Once the world gets back to normal that is, hehe. But seriously, thanks for this insightful review!
Man i just bought this to replac the samsung q9or for earc, and i must say this lg has no power , the samsung was better, it’s sub had more power, very disappointed with this, am i doing something wrong??? Very buggy too
I have this soundbar and the pros of this soundbar definitely are its looks and its atmos capabilities. As well as the massive power output and the fact that it comes with a sub and surrounds so you don't need to go out and buy those afterwards. It sounds really good but you expect no less from such an expensive device. The internals are of very high quality, like the mother board and the class D amps. But, there is one thing that I had to sort out with this soundbar and that was the plastic top part (so the upper side of the soundbar), it vibrated a lot at certain frequencies. Having opened it I saw why: LG's soundbars are actually very easy to repair if something goes wrong with it, they use separate speaker 'blocks'. If one goes faulty they can take it out and replace it. But there was a little bit of space between the speaker blocks and the top part. I fixed this using blu tack (or a similar product). I sort of connected the speaker blocks with the top part where I could using Blu Tack and that sorted out the vibrations. Only be careful to not rip out the cables out of the speaker blocks. So if you do have this issue as well, don't panic or go like 'I bought a crappy product', buy yourself some blu tack and fill up the space between the components (speaker blocks/top part). Don't fill it up completely, a bit of blu tack on top of the speaker blocks (just make a few connections with the top part per block) sorts this issue.
are you still happy with it ?, i would like to buy one but i see that the app is kind of buggy and it's kind of a no go for me ^^" but you see tons of opinions on the internet... thanks :)
@@julien2016 It's an okay system but If I could go back in time, I would not have sold my Sonos system for this one. The sound quality is above average but not perfect. The sub also has this vibration issue at certain frequencies but I wasn't able to open it up (take the top part off). I would recommend this system at an 8 or 900 euro/dollar price point. Not at the 1500 euro price point that I paid for it.
@@bjornrombaut4660 thanks a lot :) I found one for 1k euro so i assume it's good To go. I am going out of a logitech x230... so anything is better... The sonos looks really good but it's like twice the price of the LG sn11rg. I Don't think my ears are that good To Hear the difference :'D
good review, Jimmy. which system would you choose for the best experience, this one or the Nakamichi 9.2.4 that you reviewed? I would like to get the one that gets me closest to the Imax feel.
Great review. But at 2:34, you shouldn't block the top driver. The sound needs to hit the ceiling and bounce back but that top shelf is blocking it. This will ruin the whole height effect.
hello jimmy good sound bar a few days ago i bought a model below yours and installed an application Lg sound bar because the one you mentioned in the video ends in May 2021 continues with good videos as you know how to hug.
Finally!!!! Ive been waiting for an actual review. I had a Nakamichi 9.2 ULTRA but it was just too much for my apt. Ive also had before the ultra the Samsung HW950N which i loved. But this looks so clean, so smooth. Pretty much sold on this. Thanks man!!!
This set up looks soo Cool, I think if you sound proof your room with a bunch of mattresses that's when you will use it at max volume. Otherwise be ready to piss off your neighbors. lol
Can Google Assistant be disabled, and does this system have an auto-off feature? The reason I ask is that I currently own a Klipsch soundbar that constantly turns off when I use the up button on my XBox remote (yup, sucks).
Hi, jimmy. Appreciate your early but in depth review. What tv you are using this to test the Dolby effect? I guess what I am worry is that eArc or HDMI2.1 is not that common yet. And whether a ps5 will make full use of this lg sound system.
Hey, I've almost decided that I'm getting this and the 55 inch C9, and you mention that a downside is only 2 HDMI inputs, i was just wondering how good the eARC is? With eARC it should be able to send the dolby atmos through the TV, therefore meaning you can use the inputs on the TV for all the devices and then have the audio sent through eARC, did you get to test this at all? Many thanks
I have SM9450 TV with this sound bar connected. Everything is plugged into the TV and the audio all works well. I have no devices connected directly to the sound bar yet.
@@jimmyispromo Would also appreciate this, thanks in advance! Do you think the soundbar works if my TV stands parallel to the vaulted ceiling? Difficult to explain, but you mentioned that you also have a vaulted ceiling. In my case the ceiling above the TV would be only 1,40m - so I am bit worried if the upfiring speakers would work. Above the sofa the room has a height of 2,30m.
Would really appreciate this. Eyeing Q90R which in my country after discount can be purchase at between MYR 3800 (~USD 870) to MYR 4200 (~USD 965). Original release price was MYR 6599 (~USD 1560). Read review and RU-vid video, seems Q90R have pretty damn good sound quality. So, if u can comment performance/ setup over price ratio, will be nice also. Thanks
@@d4ydream I think you'll have a great effect of sound. It has an impact even before it hits the ceiling in my opinion. Spaces out the sound. Adds depth
Hello! I've got a question: I'm using the dsp11ra, but the sub and rear speakers won't connect to the soundbar. Do you have any Idea why? If I'm streaming 5.1 content of Disney+ for example, only the soundbar itself works :/ And do you know how to activate the Dolby Atmos demo? Since the remote doesn't have a function button anymore. Thank you :)
Had the SL10YG from last year, didn't rate the voice clarity or the bass. Returned it and got the Q90r, Q90r was another level compared the SL10, very keen to see a comparison between this and the Q90r.
I have q90r man it sounds awesome sound is crystal clear and base omg... it shakes everything haha its so strong :) it really makes u feel u are in the cinema... on high lvl afk :)
actually you get sound coming out of the surround speakers with that surround thing turned off if the content you are watching/playing is in 5.1 or 7.1 and I prefer to leave it off because to me movies and games that aren't in atmos sound(since when it is playing something in dolby atmos that setting along with night mode and sound mode is disable) better with it off and in ai sound pro mode
Debated on this and the Samsung Q90r. Went with the SN11. Got it for Aus $1600. Very very happy with the choice I made. Thankyou for helping me with my choice.
Good morning from Serres, Greece. A week ago I bought the LG SN11R soundbar. Can you suggest me a stand set for the rear speakers? Thank you for your time.
If you want the left and right to be louder, just lower the other ones to like -2 then run your soundbar louder like 20-22, enstead fo 15-18, otherwise, nice upgrade from the sk and sl models, I liek that the speakers are fully wireless now without needing the wireless rear base station, I like that they added 2 rear upfiring speakers , I think they need to add the ability of adding additional subwoofers, being abel to optionally connect 2 or 4 to this would be great. I'm still happy with my sk107 considering I oly paid like $500 for it on sale, but I do miss it having dts:x, hopefully this one will also drop to a good deal, and maybe I'll pick it up, I won't spend $1700 on a sound bar when I fully intend to go with a full on av receiver and beefier speakers as my primary set up.
hey jimmy..have been looking for a home theatre system..do u think the soundbars systems like nakamichi 9.2/samsung q0r/lg sn11rg compete with the traditional sorround system 5.1
$1699?? bruh that's way to much for me. LG also seems to have some nice ones at lower price points. Is LG the best brand though for soundbars? Samsung or Bose any better?
Can this unit transmit Dolby Vision signal to uplink TV via HDMI ARC (mine is an LG SM8600 - ARC only, no eARC)? Because my TV is an LG 55SM8600 and it can process Dolby Vision but my HDMI 2 port is only ARC.
Hey jimmy how was the speech when there was a lot of action. Some guy on you tube called spare change said that when there was a lot of action that it was hard to here if the actors were talking when there was a lot of action. Let me know ASAP thanks nick
Great review but I have one question, I’ve there any kind of lag off audio sync or drops out of the rear speakers like the previous models. Thanks In advance
The sync seems great. Never ran into having to change it for the past 2 weeks. And drop off, I feel I didn't notice yet. Listening lately to AI surround sound. Seems well. I've been waiting to hear it as well. Also my speakers are pretty far apart
Just out the JBL 9.1 man. It's comparable to this system for only $1,000. Yeah I know I said only 😁. I have it and it's been awesome so far. If I were to wanna spend more on a system then I would probably get this over the Q90R which is slightly cheaper then this system. I'm about that about Google life so Chromecast is a must! This system is more like Sonos price so I would have to think really hard. JBL 9.1 wins at the $1,000 mark though and that's why it's sold out everywhere rn.
Samsung and Nakamichi have better systems. You could also put together a receiver based system for that amount of money. Now, if it sold for $900 around Black Friday....
When I tell my soundbar google assistant to play music it only plays through the soundbar itself, not utilizing the subwoofer or the rear speakers. So I play music through an app on the TV instead to use the entire sound system. Does anyone know a better solution?
The Samsung Q-80R is on sale for $900 right now . Rear speaker kit is $150. That is the set up I have and I love it. I bet it sounds better than this system. If not is this system $700 better? I doubt it.
Jimmy without any Equivocation, your Brilliant Review is the best I have seen anywhere regarding a Soundbar. I have spent 3 months reading tons of Reviews on RU-vid, and Amazon for the best Soundbar.. I finally settled on Samsung Soundbar HWQ 90 R. Just as I was going to buy it, I bumped into you today. Now I am conflicted. Please between the LG and the Samsung, which do you recommend I chose. ? I thank you for your patience 🙏
Hello. I was in your position and in the end I took the step and bought the LG. Wow, I was not disappointed. Best decision I made. The output power of the LG, the sound stage it creates is sensational.
@@leatijoseph828 I really can't comment on the SL10, but I can on the SN11RG. I've calibrated my sound settings for what I prefer to hear when watching and listening to the movies I watch and wow, this LG model definitely does not dissapoint. In my opinion I never thought a sound bar could give me what I needed. But It does!!
The LG is more compact and sends great sound. Google assistant is nice too. The nakamichi is louder, more surround sound and bass. It's cheaper but more cables. Just depends on your budget really
If you select surround from the app wouldn't this just be like stereo from all speakers with no dynamics no nothing to look forward to with Atmos because all the sound would just blasting out of all speakers constantly? , i would think by selecting Original sound it would provide you with the correct channel audio for the likes of Atmos and to hear when needed in correct parts of the movie resulting in something to look forward too. Please correct me if I'm wrong but the Surround option would be better for just music. I will try this but if its just mush of sound will put in back to Original. thanks for this video little tweaks i did not know. ;0)
I don't have the latest one, but I had the previous version. Dialogue clarity in LG soundbar are horrible. It's due to pure designing of DSP. It's clear when nothing is going on, but as soon as other sounds come the dialogue becomes completely drowned out. Unless they did a major revamping internally, this sound bar will have the same issue. Be very cautious
The LG speaker app has additional settings to increase voices, etc and decreases thuds, background etc. play around with each speaker volume to find the right sound for you. I found in marvel avengers that talking can be quite low but easily fixed based on the suggestions above
I bought the LG sn9yg, I read good reviews on it but was very disappointed. I connected with HDMI (connected to LG C9) and still wasn’t impressed at all. The bass is weak and doesn’t do a good job of making you feel the immersion you’d expect while watching action scenes. The rear speakers (bought separately) were almost completely silent and the atmos sound from above was non existent. I tried for hours, different settings and videos with no luck. It was a good basic soundbar but almost nothing as far as atmos. It’s close to $1k, performance wise it should cost $300 to $400. I debating on trying the JBL 9.1 system next, if anyone has any recommendations I’d love your input.
Just received the SN11RG, fantastic sound clarity and I am quite pleased with it (good mids too)! Received some negative feedback from mates on Q90 in terms of it dropping sound on the rears, as I was also torn between this and the Q90. So far, no drops and bass is also not overpowering, but more than enough to get daggers from the neighbours few doors away. This review also helped, so thanks!
I bought the Q90r yesterday at Best Buy. The sound is fantastic.... when working correctly. However, the first movie I played (Aquaman), I heard a crackle/popping noise from the subwoofer. I tried watching various shows and moved the subwoofer in a different location and I got the same distorted sound from the subwoofer. Needless to say, I'll be returning the Q90r today and will purchase the new SN11RG.
Man I hope your barbershop opens up soon because your hair is looking wild brother. Just messing with you. Thanks for this review and keep up the good work
