There are people who are just gifted on knowing how to explain things in simplest forms. I watched over 8 other videos and this one by far was the simplest to understand and remember while I am doing mine. Thank you sir.

Great video. I didn’t have the mini hooks so I simply took two finishing nails and clamped them in two vice grips and I bent the finishing nails to a right angle at the tips. Worked perfectly and the agitator popped right out. There was grime on the mounting area of the agitator as well as the agitator cap. My washer must be a bit larger because there was I believe a dozen nuts holding the drum down. I could not loosen the nuts with a socket and ratchet nor my cordless drill. It was difficult because the drum would keep spinning while you’re trying to turn the nut. I could’ve got my impact wrench from the garage that I use with my compressor but my wife and I decided the cleaning was good and if we have an issue with odor next time we’ll do a complete disassembly. For others doing the job the first thing that I did was remove the sump pump from underneath the washer and clean in the sink as well as scrub out the drain hose to the sump and from the sump to the wall drain. The flex hoses were very stinky, but not too grimy. When we do a deep clean like Howard did, I’ll have my wife video me using Howard’s technique.

Thanks for your video. My LG washer is only 2-3 yrs old and we started to have pieces of calcium and brown deposit on our clothes. Disgusting. Your video helped find out how to remove the top part and then, the rest is quite easy. I had 12 bolts to remove the drum (vs 6 on your end). Now it's all fine. Under the drum there is a big iron piece where calcium was building up. I will now on use CLR regularly to keep this thing clean. Thanks!

@@AngelaVetch-yb5fn yes! Doing a complete disassembly and clean will make the brown flakes go away. I've done it on multiple machines for friends and family. The supermarket tub clean sachets didn't fix the problem, but a proper deep clean with the tub disassembled did the trick!

This video was very helpful!!! Thank you Howard!!! A few things I figured out as I was following this excellent tutorial: 1: I was able to get the drum out by using paracord wrapped around three screws which I placed in a triangle around the wash plate close to the middle bolt. I put tension on the cord which was in a triangular pattern as I hit the center bolt with a heavy hammer ( do not hit it like you are driving a nail). It released after a few good hits. 2: after the wash plate come out, I noticed the same nasty grim vinegar
@HoneyQueenHarmon
@HoneyQueenHarmon Год назад
Thank you SO very much - your video was very helpful even though my LG model was a little different. I’ve only had mine for 4 years and despite cleaning it with vinegar or bleach or Affresh tabs the outside of my drum was disgusting. A little elbow grease and a scrub brush and Method degreaser in pink grapefruit and the washer is clean again. It took me 1/2 an afternoon (stubborn bolts on the bottom!) but it was worth it. No more stinky washer.

So much more to cleaning this beast. You arr spot on how to disassemble it. The gray Ring around the tub is filled with chode water that needs to come out. The agitation plate is a 2 piece item that has stainless steel pressed over the plastic carrier that ypu will never be able to clean but holds nasty crap between it. The steel wheel at the bottom of the hold tank is nasty and shit grows on it. If you can remove it you are a Rockstar. If not get out the razor blade and a wire brush and you still won't get it 100% clean. I took the steel tub out and pressure washed it and it's like new. Put it all back together put about a gallon of LAs Totally Awesome cleaner in the washer let it sit for 24 hours and then do the tank clean and it smells better. You will still get some floaters as stuff breaks loose. Good luck all. It's a shitty design for trapping crap you can't clean
@vger2
@vger2 2 года назад
This is so true. I just went through this process. It's relatively easy to disassemble and clean the drum (inside and out) as the video shows but that agitator disc is the REAL problem. As Jason mentioned, the stainless steel you see when you look down in your washer is stamp-pressed around a large plastic disc. Good luck separating but even more good luck ever putting it back together. I kept sending a fairly high pressure, directed stream of water onto the gunky plastic part thinking I got it completely clean and then after 20 minutes or so of this, noticed that flakes still kept floating out from the inside. It gets trapped between the plastic and stainless steel. I am now online looking to see how much the replacement agitator piece will cost because otherwise, this just isn't going to 100% solve your problem. I never use fabric softener (which causes this when mixed with your detergent) but I "inherited" this garbage design from the previous owner when I bought the house. I will never, EVER buy a top loader since it sounds like this happens to all of them.
@benf424
@benf424 2 года назад
Agree about the agitator disc. There is no way to clean the inside of the agitator. I just ended up buying a new one for about $95. Problem solved.

I took my washer apart and scrubbed all of the “scrud” out of it. I can hear water sloshing around inside the drum after I took it out but couldn’t figure out how to drain it. After everything looked squeaky clean I reassembled the washer and ran an empty cycle. When complete, I still found flakes/residue inside the drum. I have no idea where it’s coming from, unless it’s coming from inside the drum itself.
@MrAK400
@MrAK400 Год назад
I think it's coming from the wash plate. It is really really hard to get all of the dirt from under the metal layer that's stuck between it and the plastic. I bleached it and rinsed it from all angels and can still see dirt there when looking against the sunlight. I think water in the drum might be there for balance.

I think the reason this "scrud" accumulates is the exit point of the hose is higher than the bottom of the tub... so, trapped water not fully discharged is allowed to sit. My thinking is -you lower that exit point -so it's about the height of the pump -an inch or two above the floor, and then the sitting water will sit in the lowest loop of the hose, like a P-trap. I just cut a bit of the steel body with some tin snips so I could drop the hose down. Also, the design of the agitator is SO stupid -allowing scrud to collect between the stainless top plate and the plastic plate it's pressed to. After carefully bending the circumference of the steel plate away from the plastic, I separated the two -cleaned the plastic part well, and just installed the plastic part by itself without the steel plate. The plastic seems tough enough to endure the abrasion of zippers and rivets, etc. Since the little "hub cap" won't go back on the plastic, I just cut a piece of polycarbonate (plexi-glass) and screwed it onto the plastic with a rubber gasket in between. Just about to run a test wash, but I think these fixes will help eliminate future issues. (still shaking my head at the terrible design.)

The 1 and only reason you have this build up in your washer is because you use liquid soap and it is not soluble in anything but hot water. Had you used powdered soap you wouldn't have this as an issue.

Just cleaner ours due to the "scrud" flaking off and finding it on clean clothes. It wasn't hard, and the drum doesn't weight that much. We didn't run a clean cycle on it as frequently as we should and this is what you get from it. Overall, it cleans clothes but you have to maintain it.

Unlike a front load washer, there is no filter.

Wish you would’ve actually shown the work instead of just talking and waving the camera and your hands around already assembled or disassembled pieces. Not what I was looking for.

Unplug the washer before attempting this.

I started watching this.... And then stopped because you should have filmed what needed to be done to remove the screws etc etc instead of just explaining it. Kind of defeats the purpose of the video if you don't show how you did it in the first place!

Id rather buy a new washer than to HAVE to go thru this. For one everytime something is disassembled and reassmbled it goes back together never exact so each time it wears out things get lost - so next thing u know - ur washers junk. Wish the pos used company i bought this from had cleaned it like they claimed too our washer has stunk since we got it and since taking out the topper on the middle of the center “agitator” spot i can see how disgusting it is! Yeah overwhelmed already its honestly too much work for someone whose not getting paid 😂 uugh its this the point in having a washing machine!? Might as well wash clothes in the tub oh but then u gott remove ur house pipes and clean them 😂 uugh

Removing the agitator you said was really easy… I have the pick and hooks and that didn’t work at all!!!! (Mine has screws on top btw) 🤬 You make it seem so easy but it’s NOT, especially doing by yourself!

Around 1:50 you said that clips are a better design than screws. I could not disagree with you more. This is flimsy cheap and shoddy.

Rated thumbs down because it was an overview with hardly any detail.

The manual says the lint filter is actually located in the water line connector in the back. Can you confirm it? Thanks

how the fk there nooo screwsssss?? see them plastic triangles it has holes for screws there is 8 all together, my machine is the very same as this one , I took out 8 screws, also that tool set BS is fkn useless I tried many times and it would just flex and spring back out,. so total BS this video. i used corse 2 screws one on each side of the pulsator screwed the 2 screws to left and right side that used pliers each side to jerk out the pulsator.
