I've been trying to figure out a reverse loop for my G-scale LGB trains for a while now. Reversed polarity prevents it from working w/o doing some wiring. I thought I found some tracks that could solve my problem... will I be defeated by two pieces of train tracks? Find out in another thrilling installment of Imagine Trains!
I bought the LGB 10151 Reverse Loop Track Set
track2.com/info...
(Looking for something that doesn't require a lot of wiring or knowing anything about that, or having to buy a lot of additional expensive things.)
I have seen Jim Zim's reverse loop videos. Does that apply to me? I don't have anything digital. My understanding is the LGB track is supposed to do that w/o any additional wiring or parts..? But again, I have no idea what I'm doing. Wiring things really goes over my head. :-/

1015k is your "entry" peice to the loop and 1015t is your "exit". There are arrows on the peices next to the numbers, that is direction of travel. You have to reverse the polarity when the train is in that loop. Also, move the peices a little further away from the turnout they may be to close

`Richard Trains What you are trying to do is very simple If you have all the right parts. The item that you need is. (2) ea, 17100 Track contacts. one located in each loop you will also need at one loop is (2) ea 1015t. At the other loop you will need (1) ea 1015t and (1) ea 1015K, The other item you will need is (1) ea 12010 Switch Drive and (1)ea 12070 Supplementary switch. make sure you have some wire for you will need it. Plus a good transformer. All these parts numbers are LGB Items. If you know how to wire all this up It will operated the way you want it to All you will need to do is just turn on the transformer set back an watch it run. Did have some what of a lay out just like that except half way between the two loops I added several side switches within added a train station etc.then I could run two trains automatic. and the numbers are unlimited.If you should need some help email me and I will try to got you up and running. Good luck, 246manchu@gmail.com

This LGB solution was a old school method and easy for young kids to turn a train around (provided the sections are working , not broken!). Later the EPL system with 1701, 1700 contacts has a fully automated reverse loop but does require wiring. Jim Zimm had DCC only reverse loops which requires a digital system. You have analog trains, so the LGB EPL method is recommended.

You put the tracks in the way the diagram tells you, BUT this is a manual operated reverse loop. Once the train is in the section, you switch direction on the power pack ( reverse direction knob). IT IS ONLY MANUALLY done. But..the reason it may not work is maybe the diode in one section is bad?
@awjones16

@Imagine Trains, this right here. Treat it like the train arrives (for a super-fast stop) at a station while inside the reverse loop. Then turn the dial from one side to the other. If you do delay the turning of the dial it does seem to mess up.

The LGB kit is truly old school and things can be improved by going to DCC operation . I have a similar setup and at each loop there is a Lenz LK200 with only 4 wire connections plus track separations/ isolation on each end for both rails and it works fantastic . Getting into DCC does not mean spending a fortune as there are quite affordable command stations and decoders .

So I use the 1015k on my layout running DC. It looked like you were not fully reversing the throttle while the train is between the 1015t and 1015k. Once the train passes the 1015t switch the throttle into reverse. The train will still keep going forward. Leave the throttle in reverse. When it exits the k it should keep going forward and the reverse throttle direction is your new forward. If the train goes backwards when you switch to reverse while between the 1015t and 1015k then your 1015k is broken.

I had this on my last railroad. If I remember correctly, you need to ensure that the arrows on the track are facing the correct way of travel. Trains always need to enter the loop following these arrows. You need to stop the train within the loop and flip the direction on the controller. Sadly it is not entirely automatic - like I thought it was as well! Hope that helps!

Hey, sorry, no. 😕I ended up leaving it kinda like it is, but running a rail to and from, and removing the switch tracks. Then I bought a reverse-thingy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iljnNB5TVwI.html , so I can have a trolley go from one end and back to the other. That's somethin'! But for some reason what I'm trying to do seems needlessly difficult. I know it *can* be done... I've seen other people on RU-vid do it, but there always seems to be some issue for me either located the right things I need, or figuring out how to set it up...

@@DividedAsOne I've seen a lot of ppl with g scale train also having reverse loops, but they're on a dcc system while I'm straight old style with electric rails and a single analog speed dial. Maybe there's someone out there that know how to do the reverse loop, but not complicated. Im buying some tracks off a guy who has a reverse loop system like yours, but he has extra parts to actually make it work. See what happens.

@DividedAsOne
@DividedAsOne 3 года назад
0:48 I moved that pretty quickly. The tracks didn't come with instructions but I found things online. My understanding is you have to change the direction of the controller when the train is in the loop, which actually worked once, but then not again...? If you don't change it, the train stops before it leaves the loop. But, mine won't go no matter what I do.
@exveefan
@exveefan 3 года назад
DividedAsOne When you say change direction on the controller. Do you actually keep it in the new direction position, or change it back. Because the video looks like you turn it, but then quickly turn it back to it's original position. I think you are suppose to run the train into the loop, lets say controller's speed is pointing left for this example. Then stop the train, Then turn the controller's speed to the right, and leave it there. Again, the video is jumping about way too fast to see the procedure you are doing.

Maybe provide the part number and instructions in the description so we know what you're dealing with? Also, do you have access to point motors, have you tried anticlockwise running, are the units symmetrical (i.e. what happens if you flip one of them 180deg), and do the terms insulfrog and electrofrog mean anything to you?
@Fuzzybunnybuttrailroad

Is the opposite turnout polarity cuasing the issue. Turnouts hsve the switch track parts that move and touch the rail and have current going through them in one direction. Could the other side turnout be causing the issue. It looks like a short to me.

I did. I got it to work once or twice. And then it wouldn't do it anymore. I did a number of things the same way that had different results. I can't figure it out. These are supposed to be used with DCC due to how instead of running with varying voltage the track power remains constant and it just sends commands to the engine
@imaginetrains
@imaginetrains 3 года назад
For sure? The main selling point for me was "no additional wiring required." I thought if you have DCC, then you need that additional module. Everything I can find about this set says you don't need anything else.... which maybe isn't correct...? But I've read that in several different places now.

@imaginetrains
@imaginetrains 3 года назад
I've tried everything I can think of. There's an arrow on one of the tracks. The train travels in that direction, and can only go one way. If I turn the train around, then it can only go in reverse, the same direction it was going when it was facing forward, if that makes sense. I've moved the transformer, tried various engines, moved the tracks around (putting A where B was and B where A was, as well has having them face different directions where they were). I don't know. The track is smarter than me. :(
