LGR - Detective Barbie in The Mystery of the Carnival Caper 

I've solved the case of "where did the budget for this game go". It went into that ENORMOUS NAME LIST.

Actually for a 1998 girl's game this is kinda ambitious. I mean soundtrack and voice dialogues are top notch for that time and it is not an idle clicker game like most android games nowadays. The story really gives an ambivalent feeling that something bad happened. I gotta give kudos to the devs here. I am not the target audience but I do believe the devs still did a magnificient job here.

I'm genuinely impressed that of the thousands of names they recorded voice samples for, they included boy names. They made no assumptions on who would play this Barbie game. Very ahead of its time.

One of the potential names is 'Barbie'. Which makes me imagine a strange scenario in which Barbie and her clone are solving the case. And Becky accuses both of them of seeking attention.

So basically the entire game is randomized, it sets clues for you to check out a related area and find more clues. The ending is different every time, I loved this as a kid- endless choices.

Fun fact, the voice actor for "Becky" is the same voice actor for Lil and Phil from Rugrat. Among like a million other roles throughout the years.

Okay, cause for some reason my brain holds this knowledge. Skipper Stacey and Kelly/Shelly and Chelsea are Barbie's sisters. Becky is Barbie's wheelchair friend who I think only got a couple of dolls around the time this was made. I know she was the official Paralympic Barbie. Her other friends who usually show up in games are a combination of Teresa, Kira and Christie. Though I remember Midge being a big thing when I was little but I think she was kinda phased out once she married Ken's cousin Alan. My brain is a labyrinth of information that helps no one.

One thing I really respect about the Barbie detective games is that they do randomize the criminal and the reason and clues.

Barbie can say over 50,000 names!! Including coleen, colleen, colene, coleenh... I can just imagine someone making up ludicrous ways to spell names to make it over 50,000

Props to the devs for working way harder on this than anyone would expect them to. This game is way better than the budget would indicate and since the game is randomized it has decent replayability too

Becky sounds like one of the Rugrats. Edit: Becky's voice actress is Kath Soucie who did voices in many cartoons including the Rugrats movies

As of now, Barbie has three sisters: Skipper, Stacey, and Kelly/Chelsea.The Becky from the game is (or was) Barbie's wheelchair-bound friend. She was introduced in 1997. At the time, she was popular and well-received, but that didn't last when people realized she couldn't fit in Barbie's dreamhouse. Attempts were made redesign both the doll and the dreamhouse, but it proved difficult and she was discontinued.

It's not insane that they have a huge list of names. But they actually had a voice actor say them all with super enthusiasm.

A one hour video on a Barbie game. I can't tell if I should be excited or concerned

Two very important points: 1) If you put the game disk into a CD player, the entire soundtrack of the game is also on the CD-that...lovely?...carousel song is track 5 or 6, I believe. 2) There’s a second Barbie Detective game. It involves hang gliding and and a giant-ass diamond.

I think they took only 500 names and just started adding an "h" in random spots until there was over 50,000 ways to spell Chloreahh

I remember playing this with a friend when I was little and the two of us being absolutely baffled by the fact that this massive list somehow had neither of our names.

I spell my name Coleenh, but I pronounce it Brandon

PushingUpRoses voice is so similar to Barbie's voice on the game, it was hard to tell who was talking, at times.

Next time a Fallout game gets all up and mighty about the robot being able to say one of 100 or so names, i'll refer them to this and make them eat their pants xD

While stuck on the ride I kept hoping Barbie would say “Clint, I can’t get off” or “Clint, get me off” just to hear Clint scream lol.

This was my favorite game growing up. I was so upset when I accidentally scratched the disk and Barbie would get stuck, In the tunnel of love. I never did beat this game. The music was super nostalgic.

This game gave me the chills when my sister and I played it. The music and the atmosphere was creepy.

It's always weird for me to hear the word Clint spoken in videos, since that's my name too and there aren't that many of us.

Am I the only one who recognized Becky’s voice as the same voice actress who does Lil in All Grown Up (and I think probably also Rugrats)?

I wonder how big that voice playback feature for every one of those names is.. it's actually a pretty amazing feature to have every one of those names voiced out like that. I'd love to see a technical review of how that works by somebody that knows how it works in detail

That name list haunts my cousin. They had "Halea" (Huh-lee-uh) on that list, but not Haley. My cousins and I remember this game as being very creepy, but when we saw footage of it recently, we were genuinely surprised that it was so brightly colored.

I remember when this was first uploaded, I was so excited, I decided to save it for a day I really needed some 'comfort food.' Well, 6 months later (or however much), in 2019, I finally watched and it was worth the wait! Love both of you guys - you always manage to brighten my day. I never played this one, but I did play the shiz out of "Barbie Horse Adventures - Mystery Ride." I also hear there are a couple of others in this series.

Omg thanks so much for doing this game, I remember spending a lot of time playing this when I was in middle school I think, I remember it got on my nerves but eventually when I figured all the stuff I replayed it several times to see the different conclusions. I also remember being so nervous on the slice chasing part, Thanks so much Clint and PushingUpRoses it was so fun to revive those childhood memories ❤️

My sister had this game back in 98 and I’d play it with her because she was a little too young for it at the time. So surprised to see it here. Awesome
