LGR Plays - Carmageddon Splat Pack 

Carmageddon is one of my all time favorites, and the splat pack was an awesome expansion

Fun fact - the developers hark from the Isle of Wight, a small island on the south coast, usually know for being a haven for old people to retire to. I've seen Nobby (the head of Stainless games) driving around the island a few times but thankfully his driving is sensible!

I stated why in the video, but it's easy to miss: this is the 3DFX/Glide 3D accelerated version. The GOG version of the game being sold now comes with it pre-configured to run like this, and it's awesome.

Carmageddon was one of my fave games back in the day. It's a good thing it's still getting recognition today.

Yes, that's what I played it on back then, with my Voodoo 2 and 3 cards. Works awesomely. I actually recorded the DOS version running in Glide on a real DOS PC for my Carmageddon review.

With the GOG version? Run the graphics mode setup program it comes with. Choose Direct3D or OpenGL, run in fullscreen. To get the Windows version, follow the link I provided in the video description.

AT LAST, Carma. Dammit I miss this game. Great video man, brings back memories.

Overall, I enjoy C2 more. More enjoyable maps, better car damage, crazier weapons, etc. But C1 has a certain atmosphere to it that I really do enjoy, and it doesn't have those annoying missions from C2. It's kind of a toss-up, really.

You're the first person I ever heard get reasonably close to Jon St. John's Duke voice. Respect!

If you think *this* is dull, I'd hate to hear your thoughts on bland, regular racing or demo derby games! If you can't see the fun in mowing down pedestrians, killing off your opponents, getting ridiculous power-ups, playing with the physics and damage engine, and roaming around over-the-top, open environments without a care in the world, all while being bombarded with bizarre and twisted humor, then I don't know what to tell you. That stuff's pure bliss to me.

The clicking of that $100+ mechanical keyboard, probably running this on a quad core i7 aren't you, LGR? :D I remember smashing this out at a fluid 30fps on my Pentium 200mmx and a Microsoft XStone PS2 keyboard I stole from college one night while the cleaning ladies were smoking a cigarette outside... Banging, son.

Stainless has been showing off the mobile version of the game at the Eurogamer Expo this past week, so it's still coming!

I spent almost the whole video watching your avatar in the top-left corner. It's one of the few that are actually of high enough quality to be worth having in a game.

That would be Duke Nukem but the voice actors name is Jon St.John, and he does the Duke impression in most of his videos that I've seen I've seen about half of them.

Been playing this and the original game this days, and had a blast!

The story, the aggravating missions, the physics, the instability of the program, I could go on. Just not a very fun game, even not comparing it to other Carma games.

That driver cam in the top left corner is very entertaining.

Maybe I'm slow, but it took me forever to realize the "Bonus for Artistic Impression" was for sending a pedestrian over your hood like on the case.

I still remember the levels of this one. I haven't played since it was originally released. Great game. I never managed to like the sequel. The missions you had to do KILLED it for me.

Man the violence in this is so damn cathartic. The satisfaction of driving your opponent into the wall and seeing them explode and go flying while pedestrians get indiscriminately splatted all around. It doesn't get better than this. At least until Carmageddon Reincarnation, fuck yeah!

Im totally In on this channels... Cause it reflects the kind of gamer that I am, the atmosphere and feeling that I get when playing certain games, using certain software, hearing certain sounds and smelling certain cd's that bring me back so many memories... Ms Dos.. Old Pc's... Big Crt Monitors that doesn't shows up Pixels... Read an old Manual that has a date from 1998... And im Just 19 years old ... but since I grew up with this...

Has anyone managed to use cheatcodes? I want to edit some files, "IWANTTOFIDDLE" is what the websites say but all files stay encrypted.. Doh!

one particular track? mine gets crashing to desktop in all tracks :/ most annoying that it always happens short before i 'beat' the track. i read it's a common issue and there's some solutions to it but i tried them and they didn't work.

Good 'ol GOG! Carmageddon ate up a LOT of my time when i was younger. Unfortunately I had the Zombie Version back then, now I have the Uncut version and the lame German Robo-dustbin-boring version. Fingers crossed for Carmageddon 2 on GOG!

That *is* what I do... during reviews. But this is not a review, it's an unscripted "let's play" episode. The entire point is to play the game and make commentary while I'm playing, and adding a fake voiceover would achieve the opposite effect. I don't care what James does, this is what I do :)

What a classic game

The Carmageddon games remain some of my all-time favorites, minus TDR 2000 of course, but I fortunately didn't have the misfortune of ever playing that one. I'm not one for racing games normally, but the amount of freedom and violence offered in these is just too much fun to pass up.

Carmageddon has to be one of mankind's greatest achievements. The game physics still hold up surprisingly well even today and its more addictive then meth, cocaine and taco's all put together! I'm really excited about the new game coming out, if its even half as good as the first I'm all up in that. Thanks for posting this video, even watching someone play this is crazy fun. Also I agree, TRD2000 was garbage.

I don't own or use any iOS devices (or anything by modern Apple at all). So no, it's not happening. I'm waiting on the Android version.

I noticed there are two spellings of Armour both British and American @ 1:41.. Why both? Is this game a mix of the two production nationalities or was it a typo or something? Fair enough that a British game might have the British spelling, but why two different types on the same screen no less?

This game is freaking fantastic, and this is coming from a guy who never played it back in the day so I have no nostalgia with it.

Any game sounds dull when you boil it down to the essentials. If you play the game in a dull way then of course it's going to be tedious - The joy of Carmageddon comes from what crazy things happen during a race. The majority of players aren't going to bonk a driver over and over until they win like a robot, they're more likely to ram someone then ramp over a hill and splatter a herd of cows. Most of the fun for me comes from pulling off insane stunts, the physics are still rewarding even today.

5:48 "Ohh there's a nice combo over there" - If that's how you see the world from behind the wheel, especially if with a Terminator-style HUD, better use the bus :D

Hehe, well the cops don;t do you any favours but you can steal that special forces APC. I remember when I got that.... jeez it just wrecks EVERYTHING, including the cop cars. XD I remember it being hell to get for worth it for the satisfaction value alone.

I've played it on my Galaxy Note quite a bit. It's a really well made port, the touch controls don't bother me like I thought they would. Technically speaking it's better than the PC game thanks to modern processing, it feels smooth and looks great. Carmageddon has a lot of character compared to the later games, it's the best in my opinion.

Just out of curiosity, how do you get the 3DFX mode working? Every time I try to start it in 3DFX, it crashes.
