Max payne 1 was the greatest 3rd shooter ever....For a most part "CONTROLLS" were Good (best)....just using keyboard and mouse....no need to "zoom" with rmb and use "hide system"....this was and still is a SOLID GAME....
Remember seeing my cousin playing this game back in the day. I was so scared back then. Played it years later and still got shivers down my spine. One of the all time game masterpieces!
Great video. Like watching some nostalgia gameplay while working. And commentary is really nice. One correction the game "Stronghold" is about fortress defence I think, and the one you wanted to say is "Stranglehold" (as in strangle + hold)
I loved the dark, wintery atmosphere in this game, I got the same sort of feeling from Parasite Eve. It really made you feel like there was nowhere you could go and nobody to help you, nothing to keep you going but revenge.
I remember when Max Payne Demo was released, I still didn't have ADSL back than, but I was buying one of those PC gamer magazines which had demos/shareware CD with it. I Installed the Max Payne demo, locked the doors, turned off my phone so nobody could bother me, and ran the game :) I'll always remember it, and the excitement I felt when I started playing it... It was just EPIC, a masterpiece of game industry!
What a fun video. I'm a huge Max Payne 1 & 2 fan, beat the PC/Mac versions several times, even suffered through the PS2 ports with terrible frame rates. I've actually managed to not watch/read anything about Max Payne 3, so that I may go into it with a totally open mind. It hasn't been easy though as they've been teasing us with this one for a while now. I'm totally going to wait for the PC version, but I had forgotten it was even coming out soon. This really made my day!
Hey Clint! You and other Max Payne fans might want to keep an eye on this upcoming movie I stumbled on called "Payne and Redemption." The plot sounds eerily similar to Max Payne and James McCaffrey is rumored to be on the cast. If it is a Max Payne movie, let's hope they do it right this time!
Rockstar games always have a great story and voice acting. Thanks for the memories! I played this when it was released and I remember enjoying it. The bullet time reminded me of the then very popular matrix scene from 3D Mark (99?). I never thought at the time that it would actually make it into a game as it was too much for any PC to handle in real time. Mind you, I never thought anything from 3DMark 99 was possible to control real time.
Great game after all these years. Love the sniper bullet cam (not shown in the video), which was inspired by the Chow Yun Fat movie Full contact! Hell most of the movies Chow was in, except Anna and the king XD, has influenced this fantastic game! And as usual great vid! Keep up the great work Clint :)
I think Max Payne is one of the most fluent TPS ever. You don't just control Max, you are Max. ...and I really respect games, that have so low system requirements and look so beautiful, even today (same thing with Warcraft III and No One Lives Forever). Will you ever review Heretic or Hexen? Thanks for all the great videos, I've learned lot's of rather useless interesting stuff ;)
You are by far my favourite youtuber. In your LPs you only say something when necessary, you clearly know your shit and on top that you're pretty damn funny. Thanks for entertaining me, and please keep making videos!
That's one pricey piece of equipment O_o Looking forward to your review of it, though! Rather a shame I wouldn't be able to record Max Payne (cheaply, that is).
Awesome vid as usual Lgr ;) Nice card you have there. I use avermedia as well but for xbox 360. Of course your vids can't be compared to my puny ones. You're the best, keep up the good work ;)
It's a two week delay, which is actually pretty good by Rockstar standards in recent years. At least it's getting a PC port, unlike RDR. I don't really see it as a big deal at all.
i think this first episode was the best of all! had something thrilling and horroristic in it beside the action... that's why i think it was unique at it's time...
I loved this game. It was SO dark, yet kinda quirky. "Lords and Ladies" and "Captain Baseball Bat Boy"... there were just so many little things all about. Incidentally, Max Payne was my last big box game. Came with a frickin' sweet mouse pad too.
Great choice i was obsessed with this game on the PS2 and Max Payne 2 was even more badass. Rockstar very rarely make a bad game and the preview videos for number 3 look fuckin' boss so it should be great too.
This game looks epic, ive never really gotten round to checking out the max payne games which i now regret. Would you recommend this game? and are the system requirements demanding?
After watching this, I've decided to buy this off Stream. I remember my uncle had this game. The beginning of the game always scared the crap out of me. I was probably 7 years old or so at the time.
Okay, so the first one records just fine with Fraps (I'm assuming) based on what I see here. So why can't I get the second one to record above 15 FPS with Fraps on? Do you have that issue?
the max payne series look amazing on pc, played 2 and my mind wasblown. ps2 was great at the time, but pc is the way to when replaying its well worth it. there is a deal going on humble bundle with rockstar, be sure to pick all of it up?
The John Woo game is called Stranglehold, not the RTS game Stronghold. There is also F.E.A.R. and Timeshift with the bullet time concept, if we include FPS. Also, the console ports of Max Payne were altered because of the lack of RAM. For example, the subway station level shown here was divided into smaller levels that needed to load at certain points, so there would be a ceiling collapse or a door will lock to prevent you from backtracking to the beginning of the level.
Pretty much the same. It doesn't notify you with an exclamation point if there's an important item nearby, and weapon selection is a little different. It has a dedicated melee/grenade key. You also get unlimited bullettime+shootdodge. The story is pretty weird too. I only recently played these games for the first time, so I guess they don't impress me like they would have in 2001, but they are fun.
Such a great game. Speaking of, Wolfenstein is 20 years old now. You can play it through your browser, just something interesting. Back to Max. I rented it for the PS2 a few years after it was released and loved it. MP2 was pretty decent and I am glad they finally got back to MP3 after it being shelved for years though Max's "new" look was off, they fixed it. I have to wait until the end of the month to play it on the PC, but it may be worth a shot.
Clint what resolution and version of Windows are you playing this on? Doesn't seem to show any stretching symptoms of the widescreen hacks for Max Payne.
Love Max Payne 1 and 2.....just got 3 and while I am a bit disappointed in all the bugs I've encountered, it is otherwise a great sequel. Hard, but great. Ever going to do a Max Payne 3 video?
I am playing through the first game for the last few months. Perhaps because I missed it on release and only got it last year, but I can't say I am having a great fun with it. I like the whole atmosphere but...I don't know.
Reminds me of Mafia, the graphics, the physics and voices, and indeed the voice acting sounds similar in both what they say, and how they say it. I've yet to play this game. Played it breifly on the PS2, but I should really get it for PC sometime..
Remember I played the shit out of this game at a local gamestore. They had a top-of-the line computer which you could play all the latest games on. In the end they removed it because people just went there to play on it. :P But... anyway.. I remember that scene were Max is driving the subway train through that wood panel. I was really amazed with the graphics in that scene.
Thank you for your video, you made me want to install the game, but before I play it, I need to find soundfix for this game, I know I have it somewhere.
Bruce Willis would have been a good Max Payne. Just look at his performance in Sin City. Not saying he would have saved that turd of a movie but he would have been a better Max Payne than Marky Mark
remember the matrix mod?? all those weapons! extra kung fu moves!! dojo room!! tbh i think it was a whole bunch of mods all flung into one. but it was great.
