This video really speaks to me. Working 60-80 hours a week on videos for my own channel can feel like I do nothing else sometimes. It's way more work to do what you and I do than most people realize. Clint, one of my viewers introduced me to your channel and I am so glad they did. I know this video is a few years old but I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your passion and honesty. There's so much I can say, as a fan of old and unusual toys and electronics, but the part about managing home and work life really hit hard with me. It's what I'm wrestling with now as RU-vid is turning into a full-time job for me. Your sage advice is invaluable.

The freelance struggle is real. Pros: "you work from home!" Cons: "your home is now your workplace". There are a lot of resources out there if someone is struggling with this. I particularly recommend the "Clients From Hell" podcast, they have some very poignant episodes on balancing different aspects of the freelance life style.

I think that the reason so many people thought you were filming all of your videos in your house (myself included), is because you have been using very natural-looking lighting. Most of your videos seem to be lit by sunlight through an open window. It's actually rather soothing.

As someone who has been self-employed and worked from home , you're being totally smart about this. I'm glad you're finding a good work-home life balance. Working from home/being self-employed can be a lot more difficult than most people think. I'm glad you're still able to do what you love without burning out on it, cause it totally sucks when something goes from a beloved passion to a chore. I've been watching your channel for a few years now and I've been enjoying watching you grow as a person and as a RU-vidr. I'm so glad your channel has taken off because you are one of the few "gamer RU-vidrs" (for lack of a better term) I've found who actually gets into the history of the franchises and companies rather than just the lore of the games, and I absolutely love your Oddware series! Your reviews are always fun to watch and you've reviewed several games from my childhood that I haven't seen anyone else talk about, which is awesome! I especially loved when you put Doom on a calculator and rigged HDMI on a black and white TV. Your genuine passion for what you do is a large part of what kept me subscribed for so long. You're the perfect combination of interesting, fun, funny, and "nerdy"/smart. I wish you even more good fortune in the future!

Max, you are an absolutely thoughtless piece of shit. I hope your comment made you feel some sort of power over this chap who's shared his moment of hurt. Sorry to hear Jon Silva - people aren't really gone. They're remembered and live on in memory. The body is just a vessel and it's better to have and lose something/someone than to have never had something/someone in the first place - if that makes any sense. I'm not religious by any means but I do think we'll get to see our loved ones again in some way. In anycase, I hope you're doing okay.

I'm watching this on December 23, 2020. If Clint, you should happen to read this strangely new comment on this old video of yours, know that I, like many others, are very glad to have your channel around. All of the work that you put into documenting and sharing your love of gaming and old PCs is incredible and a great source of enjoyment. That being said, it's interesting how the perspective of the last year has probably changed a lot of viewpoints on WFH situations. This is the first time I've really had to do it everyday, and I can totally understand why you have a separate storage unit. I wish I had one myself right now!

I don't get it at all anyway. How is flicking on the lights to a room full of glorious tech any different to having it at home? In fact it's even better because it isn't scattered all over the place, which ends up happening in a house you live in, removing the cool factor slightly.

I was hooked; I binged watched every video posted from start to finish, fascinated with this inclusive history of gaming. You've inspired me to thrift for old games; you've inspired me to research and continue learning about this subject; you've inspired me to revisit classic games of my childhood. And most importantly, you have earned my utmost respect; keep on creating these wonderful works of gaming art, educating and inspiring every viewer that watches.

Thanks for this look behind the curtain man. Not a lot of RU-vidrs are comfortable doing it and it's cool that you are. I'll be honest, I also thought you did everything in your house but hearing you didn't wasn't a bother to me at all. Frankly, I'm glad you've managed to find work/life balance. My channel's tiny and not growing quick and it would be a dream for it to reach half your size. But as I've said in other comments, you are one of other a couple of channels that have been a true inspiration to me and it's not only in your best interests but the viewers as well for you to not be burning yourself out, which sadly, a lot of other RU-vidrs do and feel they have to. Some people hate their job but have to have it. But if you can find a job you love, the worst thing you can do it run it in such a way that you stop loving it. Thanks for all you do man, you're awesome!

Jari Heiska He is a hobbyist at heart, but he's also a RU-vid personality. The first video I watched was a thrift one then I binge watched the whole series. Since then I am checking in daily for new content. I love the unboxing of old gear (I am in my early 40's now so remember some of this gear coming out (old git i know)) as well as all the tech tales, oddware and your old school builds. I think it's weird that people are bothered by the fact that you do your work in a storage/studio area. It's pretty obvious by the walls that you are not in your house when you're doing these. For me the only thing that ruins the illusion is the lack of that old ugly chair from your early videos :)

I am shamelessly copying this comment which I posted on the previous video, because it is even more relevant to this one: It's videos like this that help remind us that fans ≠ friends or even acquaintances. There is a whole life Clint has beyond just LGR, of which we are given only a small glimpse into. LGR is where Clint shares his passion for games and retro tech (and film, and every now and then picture framing), but there are a whole host of other passions, worries, friends, etc. we are not privy to, nor should we be. That is outside of the boundaries that LGR was made for, to share these specific passions he wants to share. This is a very important lesson for fans and content creators alike to learn; there have been many people whose lives have gotten seriously messed up by not recognizing this.

As someone who does non-RU-vid work from home... that separation of work life and home life is something I also struggle with. Good to know I'm not alone in that. Keep up the good work, sir.

My office and play room are the same place as I work as a game dev. You learn to love and hate the freedom. Most things I do at home happen from the same chair and computer.

Thankfully, as a tech support monkey, my employer provides me with computers for my job, so my music creation/voiceover/video editing/gaming/etc. machine is in another room. Helps keep things a bit separated, even if the rooms are right next to each other. If I were in your position, I'd more or less buy a potato that can run Chrome just to get away from the work computer for a while, though.

Same here, when I saw the first video I looked for business/commercial storage because I am drowning at home working. Been looking for a nice, small, local office forever and I ain't saying I wanna work in a storage unit. But my goodness just getting things in a space I can properly look at and inventory would be so great!

Dude, you're a hard working man. This is one of the best video's of yours that I've seen (out of the roughly 20-30 that I've watched over the last few months). Some channels come up into my feed and I'll watch a few and then I may or may not watch again but some channels seem to just catch my interest again a few weeks later, and I'm a happy subscriber to your channel! So, you are doing something right as far as my interests go so, a big thank you to you! I was reminded of this old saying while watching this video, “better is a handful of rest than two handfuls of hard work and chasing after the wind.” I aspire to be a youtuber myself because it just seems satisfying to be able to create something that interests me and to see if it is interesting to others as well enough so that I could survive from it. But as you said here it's a big job and takes a fair bit of focus and passion, but balance as well and so it's nice to hear your message here from this video! THANK YOU LGR! PS. I'd like to share an extra thought with you but don't want to make my comment a whole book unto itself so I'll post it here and thought it'd be a relevant subject for you :) Today, many people are extremely busy, to the point that sometimes relationships are strained and families suffer. How can we be balanced in our use of time? This issue of Awake! provides practical suggestions on making wise use of our time, which includes setting practical priorities. www.jw.org/finder?wtlocale=E&issue=2017-08&pub=g17&srcid=share

Dude I hear you! Who wants to be surrounded buy computers where it looks and feels like your a hoarder? You wouldn't even be able to have visitors over. or walk through your house, because it would be stacked up to the ceiling in every room...... no thank you! Hey, you have a love and a passion for your job and you found a way to make it work for you. I think you made a great decision by keeping it separate & not having it over take your living space & life. Because, no matter how much you enjoy your job, you have to have a place called home to kick your feet up at the end of the day, so you can enjoy what you have accomplished! Keep up the good work and thanks for leveling with us. I for one, have always wondered how in the heck can anyone store all that equipment??? No shocker, ...now we know! 👍

Good insight into your process. I have let my "game room" get out of control to the point where I don't go in there anymore. This video is a wakeup call to fix it. I either need to sell off things or commit to expanding it. I don't have a youtube channel. It is just a hobby for me. It should be a fun hobby though, not a growing monster. Thanks for a video that gives a real perspective on collecting.

Thank you for the very down to Earth insight on all that you've gone through. It's crazy how much work can have an impact on someone's life and you've truly spoken up about that. I also found it interesting on how you decided to handle those situations with some very simple solutions. Most importantly though, I had NO IDEA how much work you put into this channel. Keep up the good work my man!

Your business isn't quite big enough to pay 0% taxes like the others, but you're on your way ;) One thing I would like to see on these types of videos that never gets covered is the nitty-gritty details of the transition from having to hold a job and doing videos part time to the point where you felt comfortable enough to quit that job and focus on your passion. What was the viewcount threshold? How frequent were the videos? Was there a particular breakthrough video? Troubles with RU-vid algorithm changes? etc...
