I love this episode it just shows how proud you should be to place at all in a big competion like that! I love how there is a big croud and a band playing just because Mary place in a MATH test!

I hate the attitude that Mary has about second place. There were so many children in that classroom and second is great.

There's no disgrace in finishing second--unless you're in a boxing match.

I've always thought mary was acting rediculous about coming in 2nd thats very good.

Good ole coal smoke. I'd rather ride in a Locomotive then a modern diesel or bullet train. These old locomotives had character and class. Each trip was an adventure, not a tedious hassle like rail/air travel is today. It may be pollution, but at that time the world was a lot more pure.

Moral of this tale I take it is not to covet 10th commandment, but be content with what one gains from their own labor, Proverbs 14:30 "A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones."

I like this story

Mary seeking perfection all the time really bothered me. She sets too high standards for herself, its not like she had pushy parents ar anything, they always told her try your best. She had to be No.1 at everything!

A lot o people in the comments are saying that Mary was having a bad attitude for coming in second, she was worried about disappointing the town for not coming in first place. Come on guys we all know what kind of person Mary is. Its obvious that she didn't want to tell her mother Bout what she was thinking, cuz that's the type of person she is. I'd forgot that she gotten 2nd place. So she did very good.

It may not be first place but hey second place isn't bad at all! At least she won something!
