Fleet of foot, of which his left was a wand. Led the second wave of Serie A pioneers from the British Isles and Ireland; he played the game a step ahead.
Liam Brady is my grand uncle so thank you for this masterpiece and all the nice comments ,much appreciated didn't think he was as loved as he was ...means alot seen Italians comment that has not forgot his heroics over there really appreciated 🙂👍
and argentinians, what Liam Brady said on Diego's memorial 2 years ago was very great it reached worldwide was even translated to the spanish newspapers The Maradona Brady Platini circa in the CALCIO of the 80's was just pure art in a football pitch
A legend and one of the most underrated players ever, certainly in Ireland. Football in the 70s and 80s was brutal. Harry Kane wouldn't last 10 minutes. Maradona is my favourite player ever, he had lumps kicked out of him every week which is one of the reasons he ended up a drug addict, even at that he was still destroying teams in Italy which was the number one league in the world in the 80s, where Brady excelled. Cheers from the kingdom. And if you Google ' oh look at that Brady' you can see what he could do..
The greatest Irish player to this day he proved it over in Italy when it was the hardest league in the world plus he never cryed off for his country like Roy Keane and that's the truth.
As a fellow Dubliner have to agree 'Chippy' was a relly great footballer ,but have to disagree with JB. Having both Brady and George Best play and I'd say George was a better all round player . However, Liam was definitely the more 'sensible' off the field.
What can you say about Liam Brady .... Genius of his Time , Legend .... Purely a Testament of Quality Football ..... Ball Skills , Second to None ..... Absolutely Phenomenal Footballer, Graceful, Talent beyond Messure . So Greatful that we had him at Arsenal. God bless you Liam Brady You'll always be missed .
Put 5,000-10,000 on the gate, just like the other great midfielders of the past, and we've had a few; Alex James, Mercer, Eastham, Bloomfield, Graham, Nicholas, Vieira, Bergkamp, Fabregas, Ozil.
Great is overused for footballers...he was great! I saw his debut for Arsenal and loved him from then on...and I was mistaken for him once at a reserves game at Barnet! Proud moment...
Just after he scored you see him run to where I was standing to the left of the goal and as he jumped with his hand in the air he shouted "Fuck the Spurs!" That was a great day for the Arsenal, Alan Sunderland got it going with a goal after 47 seconds! I met Chippy a few times during his Arsenal career and was gutted when he left for Italy. He was so good, he good do anything with a ball and certainly doesn't have the worldwide reputation he deserved.
First match I ever attended at Maine Road featured the great Liam Brady, who to me, could have easily found a place on the great Dutch teams of the 70s. Fantastic player.
Some of the sly nutmegs and little passes to himself display an incredible football brain and what natural balance his left was legendary but had a great right foot too.He just seemed a little laid back at times always felt he was playing at 80%.Its what stopped him being in the balon dor bracket. But between 78-81 he was best around.
As a fanatical Gunner from the mid sixties, along with George Armstrong, he is my all time favourite player. I was distraught when he left for Italy. 7 years later I was fire safety officer on match days at West Ham, and was privelidged to witness the last couple of years of his career, including his amazing finale v Wolves, where he came off the bench for a 15 minute cameo. He strolled round the pitch with little glimpses of his class, and, as we entered the final minute, with me assuring all around how good he really had been, he suddenly went past a couple of players and struck a beauty into the top corner from 25 yards! Best finish to a great career I will ever witness!
Liam Brady was a fantastic player who gave his all for every club.... He loved Arsenal and they still love him I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago and found him to be a very sound normal guy who chatted to me about the game.. family.. Ireland he had that something special about him. A humble guy
On this era pitches and rules Brady would thrive. Genuine world level player. Arsenal got good years from him. Despite finishing 3rd immediately after he left Arsenal did not recover until GG took over. A genuine success in italy. Unfortunate to play in an era for ireland where they lacked that one player who may have made the difference in qualifying. Top player worthy of any greatest team for any club he played for. Walks into an all star 🇮🇪 Ireland team.
Brady, Platini, Del Piero, Best, Rush, Dalglish, Zico etc etc etc etc.... All absolute supreme world class players of their time. Today? Ronaldo, Messi, & a few others. Who today cant be kicked into row Z by the full back every time they get the ball
I spoke to Liam Brady at an evening event last night mate and he said maradona was by far the best he had ever played against Liam said he played against him at least half a dozen times. Two absolute legends Brady and maradona
@@josephitis0163 and some movements from Messi are doppelganger of Brady, the way he takes fellows out of sight very similar to the Brady from Juve and Inter
What a pity he couldn't have played in 88 euros ,would've so deserved after his great service to the republic of ireland. What a great player he was. Eventhough apparently he didn't like charltons way of playing etc he didn't ever abandon his country . 100% respect to liam.
I'm the right footed player, but try to play likes Brady i used to play my left footed during my teen days back then in1979 when Arsenal trashed red faced MU in FA Cup Final considered the best FA cup final all of time...
He was injured for Euro 88, but should have been in the Ireland squad for Italia 90. Jack Charlton cast him aside , for long ball , Huffing the ball up - field tactics , Sadly.
@@davidsullivan9789 @David Sullivan Hi David; it was changed from 'British player' to 'from the British Isles' some time ago, to make the distinction - but I understand that's a lazy lasso and still contentious for some. So I've just changed it to 'the British Isles and Ireland'. It's not my intention to cause any offence, merely to laud a great player. Thank you for being polite.
You see the term as a 'value-laden political one', I meant it as a 'value-free geographic one'. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Isles_naming_dispute ) But I think you knew that already. 😊
I'm proud of him. And I'm half British so I love us all. I just find the appropriation of Irish talent a bit grating at this stage. It happens to Irish musicians also.
Your point on cultural appropriation is bang on. Like the Australians do with Kiwis, Americans with Canucks; or how Andy Murray is 'British' when he wins and 'Scottish' when he loses. But I doubt many people watching this wouldn't know Liam Brady was Irish. The audience demographics bear testimony to this... The hat-tip to his achievements is an acknowledgement that, of all the players from the British Isles to chance their fortune in Italy, it was the Irish man who flourished above all others. And I'm in no way British, half or otherwise. 😶
I've had verification that the great man himself appreciates the compilation. And there are many who adore The Waterboys, myself included; it's a track from an album that showcased some of Dublin and Spiddal's finest musicians. That's why. But you are welcome to your opinion. The word you're looking for is 'accompaniment'.
I’m too young to remember him playing, but watched the 1979 fa cup final recently and couldn’t believe I’d never heard of him. He’d walk into any team. Incredible talent.
@@konysolomon2705erie A was the toughest and best league in the world back then, he tore it up. In fact he was excellent for Arsenal too, to prove it in both leagues what he was made of. Only the best can do that.
Brady played 2 good seasons with Juventus, but was later sold for Michel Platini's arrival. In Italy there could only be 2 foreigners per team. Famous the decisive penalty for the championship victory against Catanzaro. He knew he had been sold to Sampdoria
@@dalboysoccerstar True. Liam's open letter to his dear football rival." El Diego" went to every corner of the football world and translated to many languages. Amazing words!!
Liam Brady had skill and energy when he played for the Arsenal. He created a goal for his former Arsenal teammates MacDonald and Stapleton. His best goal has to the North London derby against Tottenham forty four years ago which the former BBC football commentator Motson said”Look at that, look at that”.
He could just jinx past players as if they weren't even there! His dribbling was so elegant and his playing style was really easy on the eye. As others have mentioned, he's right up there with the likes of Roy Keane, Giles and Paul McGrath as one the greatest Irish players ever.
I agree, but don't forget Ronnie Whelan. Six league titles, a european cup. Incredibly intelligent reader of the game. Poise and composure. And could put a mean tackle in too.
@@michaelmulhall5007 I couldnt see Giles, Ronnie was very good, but he should have remained as an attacking midfielder, he took the easy route like Simeone and Beckham and became a center midfielder, Ron was very compòsed on the ball...very good but he quitted his attacking sense. As for greatest irish players, Stapleton was unstoppable at his prime a bit like Gabriel Batistuta
Always said, George Best & Liam Brady were the two best players from around the British Isles. Brady was better than Dalglish, Hoddle, Barnes, Waddle, Gascoigne. The ball was glued to Brady's foot, as he dribbled waltzed, in & out of the oppenents, in that nonchalant style he had. His passes were things of beauty & he scored tremendous goals. He did it in the hardest league ever, full of the best defenders from around the world. 80s scudetto.
