The most beautiful Irish slow air, played by the master of the uilleann pipes and the whistle, sorely missed.

I have FINALLY rediscovered this song after searching for what feels like forever. Coming across the Celtic Christmas cd cover that my parents had gotten me for christmas when I was little, brought back a flood of memories. I listened to this song on repeat for a very long time, and to me it is, childhood. What a wonderfully, beautiful song.

+Jeff Leach Music It's very simple and very complex - how does a beautiful tune develop into a beautiful tune... that's what happens when you listen to it.God bless you and everyone.

Composer of the lyrics was Micheál Óg Ó Longáin,from Carraig na bhFear, Co. Cork. The incident took place at Carrigmocléar, near Nine-mile-house, Co. Tipp. Location is signposted at least twice on Clonmel to Kilkenny road!

Beautiful song with a melancholic undertone. Does anyone knows in what key Liam is playing?

Yes, Sliabh na Mban (Women's Mountain) is one of my favourite Irish slow airs. They're playing it in E major in this video. I play it in D major on my low D whistle, and D is obviously much more commonly used in Irish traditional music.

+Terence Barry Any idea who wrote this transcendent piece of literature, which is what this song is... I'm from Kilkenny, an adjoining county - loving Tipperary more and more...

I think that's Arty McGlynn on guitar and Rod McVey on keyboards.

Yes, it is. I play it myself on the Colin Goldie low D whistle. You'll also find Liam's uilleann pipes version on his great album 'The Piper's Call' (1999).
