Jerry was played by Cary Elwes. You should have remembered him as Westley from The Princess Bride. Also yhe weren't moving to Boston, just looking at houses to move into.
The fact is that there is no way that Mrs. Cole could have won that case. It is true that a minor can not legally enter into a contract, but if they do enter into a contract by lying about their age they only have a small window of time, typically 6 months after they turn 18, to cancel the contract or else it goes into full effect. The fact that this was 13 years after she turned 18 means the prenup would have been fully enforceable and she would be entitled to nothing. On top of that, because Mrs. Cole lied about her age to get married, thus getting married under false pretenses, Mr. Cole would be able to get the marriage annulled, effectively meaning the marriage never happened, and she would not be entitled to any marital assets that way either.
0:30 - There's also Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2. And he's also in KickAss 2. 2:15 - Watching Liar Liar when I was a kid, I kept mistaking the wife was played by Jennifer Aniston. Then I realised that was actually Bruce Almighty (another Jim Carrey movie).
@@tp7hero And even then I don't think it was out of any sort of malice towards Fletcher. I feel like he genuinely wanted to become closer with Max, he just went about it the wrong way.
@@phillipribbink6903 this, he spent 7 months with Max and yes, I know it's not that much time, but it kind of is for a 4/5 yo kid, he wasn't trying to replace the real father, he was trying to make Max feel better bc he (Jerry) himself said that he loved Max, you can tell he just wanted Max to be happy, he even says "Max got his father back" after the airline scene
26:30 That scene features a cameo of Jim Carrey as Fire Marshall Bill, one of his character skits he did on In Living Color. He's the fire fighter with the walkie talkie and black aviator sunglasses in the background.
@@bigdream_dreambig I agree. I can't stand "Ace Ventura" (though the second was better), and I wasn't initially won over by "Dumb and Dumber," but it eventually grew on me. I've only seen "The Cable Guy" once. I didn't care for it. This and "The Mask" are really good though.
Thank you for noticing that he is a good actor. I’m so sick of all the IDIOTS saying “he always plays the same character” or “he always plays Jim Carrey,” it’s just not true
This is the first movie that convinced me that Jim Carrey could plan a more serious, believable, human character and not just a cartoon character come to life. He could be more Jimmy Stewart than just Jerry Lewis.
@@christhornycroft3686 the fact that you said “he’s a cartoon character comes to life” ought to make you realize how different he is and that he’s the best and no one comes to him… not even Robin Williams matched with his incredible talent. I think he already showed his dramatic acting somewhat in Dumb and Dumber… remember the scene where he talks about be sick of life and fed up? That was believable dramatic acting from him
I took a class in 'Procedural Criminal Law', which was taught by a lawyer(Public Defender). Naturally, I had to ask him if he had seen this movie. Of course, his answer was 'yes'. I also had to ask him if he had ever been tempted to yell "Stop breaking the law, asshole!", to any of his clients. His response: "Pretty much every time." 😆😂
This movie is one of, if not the best of Jim Carrey's work! Liar Liar also holds a special place in my heart, my parents took me to see it in theaters in 1997, being 11 in theaters watching this was unforgettable!
I share a similar sentiment Jason. That brings me back. I'm a couple of years older than you, and that summer was an amazing one for movies. I remember going with my friend and his brothers to see Liar Liar, Batman and Robin, Men in Black and Jurassic Park 2. I'm probably forgetting one or two movies as it was such a long time ago. 26 years to be exact. Ah to be 13 again running around with your teenage dirtbag mates with not a care in the world😂
The film is dedicated to Jason Bernard who played his last role as Judge Stevens in this film and shortly after died of a heart attack. When Judge Stevens first walks in the courtroom and the guard says: "Please stand up to receive honorable Judge Marshall Stevens", Fletcher mocks the word "honorable". Since he was under the effect of the wish, he may know the judge is a corrupt one. This is Jason Bernard's second appearance in a movie about a lawyer under the supernatural influence who ends up behaving like a maniac in court. The first was All of Me (1984) starring Steve Martin.
This movie is over 25 years old, and it's still absolutely hilarious!! The blooper reel on this movie is just as funny as the movie itself. When it comes to comedic acting, Jim Carrey truly is the GOAT!!
I think I really needed this today, thank you for this upload, today's been awful, I made people happy, even sang for these people, even being there for someone down in the dumps, I was happy too, but I had an extremely uncomfortable situation today with someone in my family, so I'm glad to catch this react episode, happy fourth of July everyone, tomorrow's my birthday, and I happen to not be so happy. I hope you're having a great day though, I certainly hope it's better than mine.
Hope whatever situation you're in gets better and that you have a wonderful day tomorrow. Happy birthday. Hope you celebrate many more. Much love. Take care. 💜
Jim Carry's inspirational drive is the early Jerry Lewis. You watch some of his 1950's movies, and you'll understand. But he's far from imitating, he has his great unique style of his own.
It's like so often in real life: The "bad boy" gets the girl and the "nice guy" is ridiculed tiredly. It is only much later that the women wake up, single parents or with an abusive partner, wishing they had given the boring "nice guy" a chance. It may not be so exciting in the short term, but it is a better partner in the long term
Terrific reaction once more, Kacee. Your winning personality has won me. Another great Carrey comedy is 'Me, Myself and Irene', another split-personality spoof that Jim does so well but which few seem to react to for some reason. I'd love to see you do that.
The elevator scene was a lot funnier with how it was censored in the trailer. "That's because you've got big-" (cut to him walking out holding his eye)
Man idk, cause I remember the first time I saw this, when he said he wanted to squeeze 'em on his third attempt to rephrase himself, I was laughing so hysterically I started choking a little. Cause I was like..."Me too" 😂
Always find the first court day funny as he could have easily been granted a continuance if he’d told the judge he’d only just got the case the previous day and needed some time to prepare properly for it
Jim Carrey was also in the final Dirty Harry film "Dead Pool" (1988) as a rock star who got murdered. Members of Guns N' Roses made cameo roles as guests in his funerals.
No one ever seems to bring up the fact that her husband offered the woman $2.4 million (or whatever it was) EVEN THOUGH him and his attorney had that audio tape up their sleeve seemingly from the off. Like I suppose it's never established at what point they had gained ownership of the microcassette which contained the incriminating evidence .. But logically speaking it would of HAD to of been AFTER the offer of a settlement. Like either he was given EXTREMELY POOR legal advice somewhere along the line or he is like the NICEST GUY EVER. Because MOST people wouldn't of offered her shit if they had that tape at their disposal!!
You raise a good point that I've never seen any other reacters point out; Jerry was kind of a bro in this. I mean he really was put in a tough situation, handled it well and was nice to everyone. He was the odd man out in this situation but you can't help but hope he's found happiness in Boston.
You’ll never see this, so it doesn’t …really matter…I , for the life of me, can’t understand how there are women..as beautiful as you..I admit I have been around the other side of the world from Asia to Europe..more than a few times..there were beautiful women..along the way..but with you, there is a pure wholesomeness..and I wasn’t even sure if I spelled it correctly..the point is..whether you or anyone knows..but you are breath-taking..and it’s pretty clear..in my lifetime..no one compares..but like I said..you will never see this and I am probably the only one that knows..from the waist up. ..you are probably the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen..that’s it..that’s my observation..and yes..in his prime, Jim Carey..had a wide range of pure talent..
Liar Liar is my least favorite movie. The Mask, Me, Myself & Irene, A Christmas Carol, and Ace Ventura are ok. The only thing I like is the bloopers, that's it.
:) Maybe check out NEIL PEART Buddy Rich HONOR?????!!!!!!!!! :) ♥AND, or... Victor Wooten bass magic????????? :) “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” ~ Romans 15:13
While I love this movie (it's second only to The Truman Show for me when it comes to Jim Carrey's movies), there's always been one thing about it that bugs me: they show Fletcher "winning" his court case with the truth, but he actually loses the case. If his client was a minor when she got married and didn't have parental consent, then not only would the pre-nuptial agreement be null & void, her marriage would also be null & void, so she's not entitled to any of the guy's assets...best case, she could try to push for child support (and would probably get it), but that's it. Kinda puts a damper on the courtroom scene.
20:28 Watched LegalEagle's analysis of this movie, not to be this guy, but according to him, very unlikely that ruling would hold up. Richard could easily appeal on the grounds that Samantha committed fraud by lying to him about her age and she admits she did it. One major plothole Fletcher could have easily gotten the continuance on the grounds he was just assigned the case and hadn't had enough time to prepare.
You know the blonde actress Jennifer Tilly is basically playing herself. She divorced Sam Simon (one of the creators of the Simpsons) & took millions of dollars from him. She's the perfect example of a oar that slept her way to the top.
@20:50 women use kids ALL the time in divorce proceedings. Hell they get guys who have been proven to not be the father to be responsible. It’s ridiculous.
8:10-8:15 A step father will NEVER replace the actual father, just as a step mother can never replace the actual mother. Or for single parent households, just as the mother can never be replaced by the father and vice versa.
Im not sure that he would've won the case in real life, cos Mrs Cole was a minor when she got married and if she was to young to enter into any legal contract wouldn't that include a marriage licence? If so that would mean her marriage wasn't legal and Mr Cole owes her nothing except child support for the child/children she can prove is his ❤ XxXxX
I'm not sure how many people I speak for with _this_ opinion, but I was disappointed by _The Cable Guy_ and _The Number 23._ Otherwise, though, every Jim Carrey movie I have seen has pleased me to _no end._ And _this_ one in _particular._
Really good movie. Jim brings a pretty grounded character to the role, at least initially. Makes the breakdown funny and the realization to stop lying to himself even more powerful. Also Cary Elwes was also good and I'm glad they didn't do an unmasking thing where he shows to be a cad or something. Just a good guy who has honest feelings for Audrey and a desire to be as good a father as possible for Max.
the main thing about this movie that I didn't like is that it conflates rudely blurting out anything you are thinking with telling the truth....or lying to be the same as not volunteering a rude comment.
7:37 - actually not his fault that he's late. His boss is sexually harassing him and if he doesn't go through with the deed he might have lost his job.
