@@GCBlues45 Not likely. (And the company's name was Hatos-Hall, but those shows (Let's Make a Deal' and Split Second) are now owned by another entity.) When last heard of, the rights to Ralph Andrews' shows had been acquired by Mark Phillips Philms & Telephision. The 80s version of Liars Club had been a Golden West Television Production in association with Four Star Television; in mid-season Blair Murdoch had taken over production.
This needs to get brought out of the vault and shown on Buzzr, absolute GOLD. Allegedly, 20th Television had the rights for a while, but not sure if that’s still true. Betty is a GOOD liar and could fool anyone at all if she needed to as you’d never know she was leading you on. I swear, she’s every bit as sharp today as she was back then. Allen’s forte, of course, was always Password, but he had the personality to pull off stuff that was out of his usual comfort zone. Buddy was probably making the censors *really* nervous in that first segment lol...he was a genius.
Allen Ludden had been off from Password for two years so he had plenty of down time to fill before returning back to the retooled Password Plus once Liar's Club came to a close after 3 seasons.
meyerj75 meyerj75 Aside from Stumpers and Liar’s Club, he did tape some pilots, and he was also doing some theater and TV work at the time, including Love Boat. Also, he and Grant Tinker had a production company together called Elltee that they were both busy with. He also did a lot of consulting work on the side for people too. Allen never sat still, ever. His work and his family were the two things that always kept him grounded.
R.I.P., Ralph Andrews, producer and creator of Liars Club, Lingo, You Don't Say!, 50 Grand Slam, Celebrity Sweepstakes, I'll Bet ((revived as It's Your Bet) and many more.
Seeing Buddy Hackett made me think of game shows like The Match Game. The world wasn't so pc sensitive back then. Some of the answers they gave on game shows and in their stand up material, would make people cringe today. They give you a taste of it right here on this very show. :) Wow did I miss the 3rd items description.
Make Me Laugh and Liar's Club both aired in the Louisville area, but on the following different stations: -WHAS Channel 11 and WDRB Channel 41 (both for Liar's Club) -WLKY Channel 32 (for Make Me Laugh)
I used to watched this show on USA since I was a kid. I've just notice at the very end of the show, it had the 20th Television Fox logo with the "Distributed By" tag on the slide. This is indeed rare, but you don't see those anymore. It was plastered by the Four Star logo from 1984 which was one of the last logos ever existed. "JohnnyL80" posted that here. Four Star Entertainment Logo (1984) "Higher Quality Version"
I remember catching a couple of episodes as a kid. Fun thing seeing this now is that I've had a long career in antiques and collectibles of this odd sort, and even without knowing what it was, I knew what it was. Wish I could see more to see how well I could guess.
I remember one episode of LC with Buddy Hackett; every object they presented on that epidode, Hackett called it a Bottle Corker.. He was right on HALF of them!
I'm more familiar with the Bill Armstrong version of the show since the USA network only aired the ones from the local 1974-5 and first season (1976-7) despite being out of sequence and poorly displayed. I assume the network didn't get around to airing the Ludden hosted episodes because the ratings weren't as high as USA wanted to be, so they dropped the show from their game show lineup. But watching something like this is a rare treat.
Betty White wore a ring on this show that spun. It wasn’t a prop for the show. I just always thought it was pretty cool but it looked like a fancy mepps fishing lure. Hey I’m a guy what do I know.🤣
This show must have been syndicated. The blank space between segments is two minutes and two seconds long. Television stations would insert their commercials during this time.
Buddy Hackett -- the voice of Scuttle -- the same guy who was telling Ariel goofy explanations about what a fork and a pipe were for... I see where he got his ideas!!
+Eric Taylor Well @ least they didn't discontinue male contestants. Otherwise, it would;ve been, "Like Husband. Like Wife." A 5 year gap between Liar's Club to Just Men!
I've seen male contestants on the show in the past. But if you remember "The New Treasure Hunt" they only had all female contestants on stage and no males.
Betty White is the only of the celebs still alive. The Bill Armstrong season of this version of Liars' Club aired on USA in 1986-87, but the Ludden shows haven't aired since their original broadcast. This is considered a rare find these days, despite Ludden doing two seasons of this show, and it was a daily syndicated show(some stations did air it only once or twice a week). Matthew Andrews is the person who posted this, would he be related to producer Ralph Andrews?
Ahhh the 70’s ...when you would take the ugliest patterned table cloth and make a suit jacket out of it....what were they thinking and who were the fashion designers of the day!
What creepy crap. This is everything about the 70's that I hated. I remember seeing this when I was about 6 years old and feeling all weirded out by the decor, the clothes, the banter. What a relief when skinny ties came back into fashion.
