Like most successful people Liberace was a hard worker to make it big. He also took risks to be the first to do things in entertainment that are the norm today.
@@starquant Elton John stole his act! Oh and went as far as getting married to a member of the opposite sex to secure his image! A different time a different era.
@@starquant You're very rude! If you disagree with someone, you don't have to insult them! You wouldn't have said what you said if you hadn't been on the Internet! Shame on you, you mean person!
Say what you want but this dude had class and loved everyone, it would pay today's celebrities to be half as good an genuine as Lee was, rest in peace piano man! The real piano man!
You got to give the man some credit. Even now, when you mention the name Liberace, people still know that name, and in a favorable way. That's legacy right there! God bless Liberace! Maybe, the greatest piano player of all time.
I remember him as a wonderful performer. I saw play at 12 years old. He had the dancing waters. The piano and the water on stage danced together. I will never forget it.
I attended one of Liberace’s 1981 concerts in Las Vegas and it was WONDERFUL!! Liberace was a true showman and a music genius. No one can deny the reality of his talent as a pianist and entertainer and that’s what millions of people around the world enjoyed in his shows. It was such a memorable weekend for me seeing two of the greatest performers - Liberace and Liza Minnelli! Liza was apparently in Las Vegas for the first time in nine years so it was ‘the icing on the cake’ as far as I was concerned and even more so because Joel Grey was in her show too.
I bought my first record album at 9 years old. It was Liberace. I loved watching him on TV. I thought he was the happiest person in the world and I have always been a fan.
@@TheGreatPerahia His sexuality had absolutely nothing to do with his Absolute talent! He is dead now and people should see him for the beautiful talent he had and let God do the rest!
RIP Liberace There never will be another like you. We saw him live back in 1960 at the Latin Casino in NJ. Sat right up front as it was my parents 25th wedding anniversary. We got a message to him before that explaining their anniversary and how we all loved him. He played my mom and dad song, the Anniversary Walt and then Ave Maria. I doubt there was a dry eye in the house. Before he died and I was finishing up a casino in Las Vegas, i got on a tour bus and when we went by his home, he came out, waved, signed autographs and has his dogs with him. A true showman and even now these memories bring a tight throat and tears to my eyes. Thank you Liberace for being such a shining star for so many years. PAX+
I was at that concert at the Latin casino.yhat was the bee's knees of night clubs back then.i lived in Cherry Hill area.good hearing a great pianist and hearing someone talk about the Latin casino.
By all accounts a generous, sweet, funny, musical genius, as well as an avid animal lover, and a true friend. R.I.P. Liberace. You are sorely missed. ❤️
Liberace not only had absolute talent, he KNEW how to market and sell himself. He was over the top flamboyant, that set the standard for today's over the top productions and pop stars. That's what made him stand out. and when he played, you could tell, he played with ALL HIS SOUL. Even through this documentary, you can still feel his passion when he played.
I used to tell people that I wanted to go to Las Vegas so I could go to jail because when I visited the Liberace museum and sat down at Chopin's olive green, world's rarest piano and played it so I could tell my grandchildren about it one day, that I'd go to jail. I did get to go to Vegas, but, alas, didn't get to go to the museum for the weeks we were there, so I missed out. Liberace was my Idol and I wish I coulda done that. It's a beautiful piano. Thanks for letting me vent. Sharon
Even as a youngster in the 70s and onward I and my family and especially my mom absolutely loved Liberace and never missed a show on TV. Being "different" myself, I identified with his flamboyance and between him and Cher couldn't wait to see their next wonderful costumes and sets. Liberace's smile was everpresent which is a big part of his success. He brought joy to the world. What better legacy could he leave? Life never seemed fair to the most beloved and so AIDS took him while "god" looked on with apathy. But he lives forever through the strength of his love for others. XO I hope I'll see you again, brother.
HE WAS FROM MY CITY = MILWAUKEE - THE BEST THING ABOUT HIM, HIS LOVE & TALENT OF PLAYING & ENJOYING MUSIC & ENTERTAINING US ALL....GOD BLESS YOU LIBERACE - WE LOVED YOUR SHOWMANSHIP!!
I saw him in the mid 80s as a teen who adored big hair and way too much make-up.My Grandma and I went,he totally blew me away! Witty, warm and amazing on the piano! Such a wonderful memory..It still makes me smile to remember him.I wish he could have loved himself as much as he loved others.
One of my earliest memories is watching the LIberace Show on TV with my Mum. We used to guess with which eye he would give his trademark 'wink'. Happy times .
I remember seeing MOST of these black and white shows on TV when growing up!.., My mother was NUTS about him and refused to ever believe he was gay. He was a hell of a performer and he could really play classical music which I love the most!..., His home in Calif., is now in ruins and dilapidated!.., But he will live on regardless of his hidden life style!.., The "Moonlight Signata" always makes me cry, TRULY my favorite classical ever!.., His life story breaks my heart.
Met him and his lover at The Phoenix Art Museum when I was still too young to comprehend the magnitude of this man... but it still made an indelible impression that remains vivid to this day!
It seemed nothing could/would stop this man and his unique talent from becoming ultra famous. You have to admire his amazing abilities and bravery. He loved his mum and took care of the family too, that is just a wonderful thing in itself. It's hard to imagine Liberace resting in peace, he'd be too busy rhine-stoning those already pearly gates.
Who cares about his sexuality?? It's. no one's business, period!!! Also, No one dies of AIDS!! they die of the opportunistic diseases that the immune system can't fight!! hence, Aquired Immune Dificency Syndrome!!!! He was a talented artist, and Should be remembered that way!! a kind, generous soul !!! thanks for uploading this!!! Luv Ya !¡
Since no one dies of Aids how would you like to be injected with the virus so you can die of opportunistic diseases as your body breaks down as a direct result of the aids virus? Don't try to be technical the man died directly as a result of AIDS which he contracted as a result of promiscuity.
@@gmailplaystore1152 Educate yourself before you come for me !! It was explained in my previous remark !! You die from the opportunistic diseases that AIDS allows to kill you, such as pneumonia, or the different cancers, that a person with a normal immune system could fight off !!
Such a great showman! THE BEST EVER! Way over the top but he got by w/it - no one else ever was close to being like him or playing the piano like he did - absolutely fantastic! Miss him!
Liberace was indeed a great contributor to the world and unlike today he had real talent to back up his flamboyance . I for one am glad he bought classical music to so many who may have never been introduced to it. Today we have Andrea Rieu who does the same and packs world stages to present classical music. I am glad that people are given the opportunity to enjoy classical music in such a non threatening way. I know only too well how music purists are so anal they destroy your JOY. Music, especially classical music is a gift to the world NOT something to be made a refuge for the elite !
I first saw him on TV when I was a child. I fell in love with his sequins and furs I didn't know at the time he was gay although I could tell he was very different. Now that I'm an adult I don't care if he was gay or not he was a superb entertainer and that's all that matters to me.
When I was in high school, I had an English teacher who was a big Liberace fan. I remember one year when she was gushing with joy as she told us that on Valentine's Day that year Liberace had received 100,000 valentines from many admirers. A kid in the class called out "Isn't Liberace gay?" Without missing a beat, Mrs. Zumpano responded " Well, I don't think that those valentines came from 100,000 gay men."
He was handsome, talented, funny, and had a charming smile. The epitome of a real man. Nothing wrong with being attracted to him. I'm sure if you had met him, he would have treated you like a lady. A little FYI, I, too, had a crush on him when I was a child.
Why don t lee liberaces critics shut up and realise this man made millions of people happy also he was generous kind sincere and honest he did not deserve to suffer the way he did at the end of his life all the stories about him wildly exaggerated Scott Thorson Is a liar goldigger he had 2 guns in his hands was saying he was going to kill let that night police threw him out of lee s house Scott now serving life sentence for attemted murder. Drug trafficking credit card fraud this is the truth 2
Only one who truly knows what kind of person they really are is the person who stares back at themselves in the mirror..Even ppl who are together don't always know what the other person is like unless something comes out.
I just watched this, thank you for sharing this with the World. I remember seeing him when I was in Kindergarten on TV. I think listening to his music started my interest in Music. I didn't know a lot about his life so this was really nice.
I saw him on TV as a kid, I knew that he was different but I loved him anyway. Later as an adult I realised that he was gay. You know what? I loved him anyway. He in my opinion did more for the acceptance of gays than any of the loud mouths ever have. You loved him for being him and his personal life was irrelevant. I just wished him happiness in his life as he had brought to mine.
Smokeless1167 not true! I and my late partner were born in 1942, we were up against extreme homophobia and were middle aged when the criminal law was changed and we were not criminals. It still did not end abuse we went through when we campaigned for full equality in society. As a couple we were never allowed to marry. 20yrs ago my partner diagnosed with terminal cancer. I had to fight to get any information from hospital drs about his condition. It is only 2yrs ago that finally same sex marriage was made legal. No those of us born in the 1940s have not had an easy life as gay men
@@johnoakes4143 - I am so sorry that happened to you. I understand about the hospital thing because dear friends went through this and they were not gay, just close friends who lived together for decades and bought a house together (both had multiple boyfriends through the years but none they wanted to marry). They had each given all powers of attorney, medical and general legal, to the other but the hospital refused to honor it and give information to the other. This was made worse because one who was ill had no family to advocate for her. It was an absolute nightmare. Sadly, she died before gay marriage was allowed in our state - they would have married if that was the only way her friend could have advocated for her because guardianship was not granted which would have solved the problem. I strongly feel a person has a full legal right to determine who has the right to advocate for them in medical issues. This nonsense of only a spouse needs to be gone (or parent if it is a child underage) if there is someone else designated by the patient. We had a similar situation in our neighborhood with sisters where the hospital refused the sister information when the other was critically ill - again, no husband and the sisters had medical and legal power of attorney for each other.
OMG, NOW I know where Liberace's famous line "I wish my brother George was here" came FROM! I think the enormous love of him by women(me included since being a kid) came from his 'Little boy wanting to please his Momma/female' Aura that includes a large dose of Oedepal subconscious sexuality triggers in the reverse for women. A MAN totally into you, Open, submissive & friendly and wishing to PLEASE you is a dream for most females.
I knew of him but this is the first time I saw a clip of him snd about him, what a man . Another one bites the dust, always the greats that seem to go to soon 😞
I didn't get to watch Liberace on t.v. or hear him very often. I am unclear as to what might have been the reason. Maybe my parents just were not going to endorse him. While Liberace was not perfect, There seems to be that desire to be kind and to offer a performance that would be welcomed. It is sometimes sad that ideas of sexual preferances could ruin a career. Yet, Liberace seemed to escape a great portion of it,, thankfully. I would have liked to have met him, honestly. He might have encouraged the idea of music for me alot more. Mr. Liberace, indeed you extended alot of yourself and your interests and talent. Merry Christmas In memory and with blessings, 2021. Stay "C" sharp!
What a lovely documentary. Such an awesome life. Love the showmanship. He was great to so many people!!! When you have fame you have to expect less privacy. He was great at marketing too. Love the piano pool. Love that he played with all sorts of royalty. Im sorry he had to live a dual life. But that Era was different. I regret giving up piano lessons after 2 years because I wanted to play outside.. ii was a child prodigy, but I wanted to practice less. and I hated being a show for my parents. Music was a big part of my life. Parents please find out why your child wants to quit and try to have them continue.
I heard Liberace had a photographic memory. He could remember names and family members of crew a year after a single introduction. "Oh Hi Arthur! How's you're wife Patty and your children Daphne and Mark?" type thing.
When Liberace was at the Smithville Inn tent show in New Jersey I saw him up close. Do you like my rings girls ? You paid for them ! If his audience was good to him he would play after his show. His brother George was there too but wasn't together. As a waiter I saw many stars that summer.
I find his albums in junk shops etc, and I buy all I see. I took piano for 12 years, and never got anywhere...but he showed what I missed by not trying harder.......
I liked Liberace, I enjoyed his flamboyant shows, as I enjoyed Little Richard. I also read his books, followed the law suits, heard the accusations, watched Behind the Candelabra. I didn't live his life..... but I'm not naïve enough, to realize, that celebrities are victims too! we all know Lee was gay, a flamboyant gay man, during an era, when being a homosexual, simply wasn't acceptable, if it had been, there would have been no closet to emerge from, however, it also made him, and others targets for ruthless, unscrupulous, I want something for nothing creeps.
Why the hell would his female fans get upset about his engagement? And how does that make him a traitor against his mother? It was his mother who encouraged him to date!!
I always grin hearing from that lady singing when liberace' winks at her..... It like or lv he ain't winking at u, he's winking at ya fella or father hunny😂❤🎉
Right?! Must have been gestational diabetes. There was a twin, so imagine giving birth to over 20 lbs of babies then getting pregnant again. Hell to the no!
