Fox News confronts the truth about taxes: a supercut.
» Subscribe to NowThis: go.nowth.is/News_Subscribe
In US news and this NowThis News video, Fox News Channel is seen struggling with American people wanting to raise taxes on the rich, or as Elizabeth Warren has called it a 'wealth tax.' In this Now This news video, a Fox News interview goes awry on air when a liberal young man argues we could raise tax rates on the rich to fund Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's New Green Deal to fight climate change. The Fox News reporter seems beside himself, but that's not the only Fox News fail. In more than one Fox News poll, Fox News viewers express their desire to tax the rich more. It seems the only one who wants to lower taxes for the rich is Donald Trump and the Trump administration.

It is there to fund infrastructure, services, local administrations, important oversight departments for consumer-protection etc. for EVERYONE. Noone wants to tax the rich to make them poorer but to care better and react on new scientific revelations for everyone - as it would be impossible to fund the society by taxing everyone just a few dollars and mostly letting only the poor and the middle-class pay. Just close tax loopholes, make big corps accountable, and have them pay fair wages. Otherwise your just kissed off that someone else has more than you. Get over it. Some of those people who make more do so under a family Corp that uses its funds to pay the salary of 10 or people. That extra 100K or more is what possibly allows them to reinvest. Sometimes it’s a land sale that gives someone good fortune. They’ve probably worked that land all their life. Why should they have to pay a higher premium on something over 400K? They should not. Why in the world wouldn’t we be in favor of raising taxes on the rich?
@shinHis3
@shinHis3 3 года назад
It lowers the incentive for people to get rich in the first place. The overall tax then becomes lower because there are less rich ppl and also because ppl are incentivised to build their businesses elsewhere/risk tax evasion. Why do you think many companies set themselves up in places where they have least tax? Wouldn't you do it? This also means a lot especially to people who grind their life away for later life/for their family. They have to grind their life away just for other ppl to reap the benefits?
@yotubeification
@yotubeification 3 года назад
@@shinHis3 there is a simple solution to people trying to ship their businesses and wealth over seas. Nationalization. Even better. Turn the factories over to the workers and let them run their workplaces like democracies and elect people to positions in the company. Mondragon in Spain is the 10th largest company in that nation. It has some of the best benefits, highest quality products, and highest wages in the nation, because they don't have to waste money on overpaying a CEO to do almost nothing and shareholders who do literally nothing. It's like a little democracy within the large democracy that is Spain.
@shinHis3
@shinHis3 3 года назад
@@yotubeification -_- You can say shareholders do nothing, sure, but CEOs do a lot of things. The main problem with socialism, to me, is that they don't know how to value good and bad decisions. What CEOs do, in case you don't understand, is to make good decisions and avoid bad decisions. Sure, they don't "work" in the old sense of the word, manual labor, but they sure do mull over the decisions they have to make and make sure they make good ones. Socialism doesn't take this into account. Steve Jobs/Bill Gates didn't become rich because they work more than other people. They became rich because they implemented better ideas than other people. No matter how much you dislike it, effort doesn't always translate into results. The difference in results is the from the difference of the ideas put into practice. The problem with the system you speak of, is that people will be less incentivized to come up with new ideas because their hard work can just be taken by the government. This is why America is at the forefront of technology for almost every category of individual products. Good ideas get rewarded (although sometimes bad ideas get rewarded too). That's better than good ideas gets taken away and people don't care about coming up with good ideas anymore.
@yotubeification
@yotubeification 3 года назад
@@shinHis3 the reason the U.S. is at fore front of technology is public research funding. Also you are confusing government run organizations and community run work places. I prefer to take a left libertarian approach rather than a communist approach. A CEO possition is admitedly more work than I made it out to be, you're right. But that is why even more than before to have the workers be in control. Because the CEO makes descions that effect the worker's livelihoods. And if the business fails it is the workers who pay for it ultimately. CEOs bail and get golden parachutes.
@shinHis3
@shinHis3 3 года назад
@@yotubeification Did Microsoft or Apple have anything to do with this public research funding you mentioned? If they are I stand corrected but I've never heard anything of the like. I see the ideal you're going for by mentioning "community run work places", but I've never seen it to not shift into the "government run organizations" in the long run. Maybe you can give me an example of one that has endured >10 yrs. I admit CEOs getting golden handshakes for making stupid decisions also leave a bad taste in my mouth, while lower class people who make bad decisions don't get the same leeway. But CEOs aren't representatives of their workers. They're their leaders. They decide the direction of the company, or at least pitch it to the shareholders, and make sure the smaller decisions go in line with that direction. Putting those decisions to vote just makes the position of CEO obsolete. But that's not what's bad about that. What's bad is you'll have ppl who have no idea about how things work also voting on the direction the company should go. For small companies where everyone knows each other it can work, but anything bigger than that would yield worse and worse results since the number of ppl who have no idea on what they vote on increases.

Billionaires are not interested in being fair, which is why they got to be billionaires. Fair would be Jeff bezos paying his employees based on his profits, and making sure they have medical benefits. The government doesn’t care about the rights of indigenous people or Mexican people or black people. Indigenous protestors are shot with rubber bullets and run through with cars, while white protestors are asked to please go home. That’s not fair, and you better believe we’re mad about it.

Consumers who buy Amazon products create the demand that Amazon hires people to fulfill. Every single employer doesn’t just hire people out of the goodness of their heart, they hire employees so those employees can in turn fulfill demand to make them more money. The instant demand drops off those employees are gone no matter how much they spew “we’re all a happy family”.

Working class consists of workers. There are thousands of poor people that do not pay taxes and instead, live off of your taxes. So the same question can be asked of you. If you became rich off the heavy lifting you did, would you want to give more of your wealth in taxes considering you don’t really have a choice in where those taxes go to? If someone is living off welfare, living off junk food and smoking pot everyday, do they deserve our money? Regardless of your answer, it doesn’t matter. You money will still get taken and if you are rich, you’ll end up paying more than me anyway.

Your average user so the percentage does not increase depending on how high the income is? And the average American would pay around 14% in household income tax. As a British person, hearing someone argue against taxing the rich on the basis that that is "taxing success in the land of opportunity" is such an alien concept to me. Taxes exist so that the government can pay for services to help people. If someone is richer, they can afford to pay more in taxes so that the government can provide vital services for all and protect vulnerable people. Why shouldn't someone who can easily meet their material needs pay more in taxes? The amount the government needs in taxes is only going to increase with a growing and elderly population, and with the challenges of climate change. Who else is going to foot the bill? The working class on minimum wage? The elderly out of their retirement fund?
@potaterjim
@potaterjim 3 года назад
The idea of america being a "land of opportunity" while also forcing the taxes on the rich is pretty much incompatible. Opportunity means that you go there and start from scratch, because you have the opportunity to rise and succeed. But all the "punishment" is forced onto those same people. The people against taxing the rich consider taxing a "punishment", but they have no problems with punishing people seeking opportunities, despite claiming that this is the very _land_ of opportunity.
