You missed a lot of details. Portugal was a NATO member and hence was protected by NATO. India waited till 1961 to find the perfect opportunity. Salazar was considerably weaker by 1960, he was facing a lot of difficulty holding power in Portugal itself, JF Kennedy has become US president and he was supportive of India getting back Goa, but couldn't upset a NATO member, hence US only did formal protest but never supported Portugal through military. Similarly, USSR President Nikita Khruschev had already told India about using Veto power if the need arises.

China was already in Aksai Chin in 1955 and were making roads to connect Xianjing province to Tibet through Aksai Chin. Nehru was trying to solve it diplomatically but in 1962 he realised it was too late. China had already made infrastructre to help them to fight easily. There was also way to use Airforce and block every ship going to China. Now we can't do anything about it. China was already on advantage.

To bring to Goa, Daman and Diu India`s marvelous quality of life ? After " saving " Goa, India should be obliged to give the Goa people at least a minimum of half quality of life of Portugal.
