I've searched through RU-vid to find this type of review as it seems so universally loved, but your thoughts are exactly my own. Especially about the perspective, it just comes over as a rich woman's estimate of how it is to be poor. And the character development is terrible, I think she's rested on the fact Dickens had well rounded characters so didn't need to give them depth. U-Haul was a huge disappointment, he slithers off the page in David, this one was so weak and the culmination was just a few sentences and the Micawbers involvement wasn't even explained. I could go on, but it wasn't for me. David (one of my personal favourites too) is a superior book, much more full of heart and humour.
I also hate when books stereotype all poor people as being degenerate. And a thick book like that with minimal dialog. I knew I didn't want to read this book. I commend you Mel. That's a biggun
