Ian Rankin is one of my absolute favourite authors. He's so good at throwing out all these threads at the start of a novel and bringing them back and tying them up in such a satisfying conclusion *cowboy hat lol
I’ve only read Black and Blue by Ian Rankin. A few years ago I bought Knots and Crosses thinking I would read them in order but then didn’t read it! Thanks for the nudge to get back to Rankin. He is also a great book festival interview - seen him interviewed a few times now and he’s always interesting and funny.🤠
The Malcolm Fox books are excellent, I hope he extends the series. Also the three books written as Jack Harvey are well worth reading and it is a shame he didn’t continue this series. Kind regards.
I’ve read all the Rebus novels. Big Ian Rankin fan. Unfortunately I had to give away all my paperbacks to charity when I moved house in 2019. I’d love to visit Edinburgh and do the Rebus walking tour.
Thanks for watching and commenting Jacqueline! So sorry you had to part with all your Rebus books. I've had to do similar myself in the past and it's always painful. Hope you make it to Edinburgh one day.- it's a lovely city!
I've read a few Ian Rankin books, I read Knots & Crosses by him, which I remember being really good, I read Let It Bleed, and I think Mortal Causes too, and I have seen the Rebus TV series that was on ITV in the late 2000's, early 2010's as well, but I was in my early to mid-teens when it was on, and I will probably watch it again if it's on DVD somewhere.
We don't generally use the word "close" for thoroughfares over here. I'm guessing the publisher was trying not to confuse us. I started the Dresden Files series strong and followed it for a while - twice. It gets all deep and complex and weighty toward the end and I lost impetus. Twice. But the early books are pretty fun. Grim in places, but very interesting takes on incorporating the practice of witchcraft into life.
I’ve never read anything by Ian Rankin, it’s always interesting to hear about different authors. Question - how many books do you think you have at your house? Rough estimate is good, I’m so curious 🤠
The Rebus series is, I think, my favourite crime series. It was the first crime I really read and it changed my reading tastes completely. I’ve looked and looked for a better writer of police procedural than Rankin, and I’ve not actually found one. Obviously there are many mystery writers I love such as Christie, but Rankin is my favourite for outright crime.
I've never read any Rankin. Can they be read stand alone? Or best read in order ? I'm always concerned with books where the author's name is in larger font than the book title 🤣Re: the Dresden series, I havent read it but there's about 1079 booktube clips that review them and, I dunno, a 17 book series 😭 🤠
Ha! My English teacher at school used to say the same thing about relative font sizes! You can read the Rebus books out of order, but I think continuing storylines about characters become more of a thing later on in the series. There do seem to be a lot of videos about the Dresden Files - maybe I should make one LOL
