Libya floods: At least 10,000 people missing, thousands killed after Storm Daniel causes burst dams

About a quarter of Libya's eastern city of Derna was wiped out after dams burst in a storm, the administration in the area said on Tuesday, and the Red Cross said as many as 10,000 people were feared to be missing across the country in floods.
Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar announced during a televised address that rescue and relief efforts are underway to assist those impacted by the country's flooding.
“We issued immediate instructions to use all our capabilities, provide the needed support of all urgent medical equipment, operate medical convoys and to allocate shelters to those who lost their homes,” he said.
At least 1,000 bodies had already been recovered in the city of Derna alone, and officials expected the death toll would be much higher, after Storm Daniel barrelled across the Mediterranean.

people should stop praying and build sci fi roads building like in movies Then there will never be earthquakes and floods. If developed buildings and urban structures are built, people will not suffer from major disasters.

Totally agree. I think the same and say he same. The tech is there but they are just using it for stupid reasons. So many lives could be saved if we live based on surviving natural disasters. Instead we have many death totals equaling wars. All neighborhoods should be built on higher ground . Not starting at sea shore level. Forget tall buildings to show off to other countries you can make the tallest. With one swoop thousands are dead in one building. It's about money and foundation. They literally need to aim higher when it come to foundation and aim lower, when it comes to elevation.

Tell western countries to stop destabilizing existing governments. Libya went through regime change recently with the removal of gaddafi, and it must be asked whether this made things worse.

@norz8828 maybe if the majority of the population were educated in science instead of turning away from those with advanced degrees in climate science for the past 40+ years, we wouldn't have to be enduring such storms every other day .... but nope ! they knew nothing then and still now, right ? I wish at least 20% of the people who have faith in their local doctor had the same trust in climate scientists .... but for some maddening reason, everyone supposes him / herself the expert .... with 0 background and likely 0 courses to back up their views
