Right there on the Southern tip of Birmingham. A well handy spot to do a bit of tapping. All the best. Mark

Yeah for sure!! Found the 2 corresponding trigs that this one points too on the map in fields near by so going to see if I can get to those too. There are paths real close by and as long as its not private land I should be all good 👌🏻 Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 😊

There are paths very near so its lookin hopeful. I have lived in or around Birmingham all of my life but never knew this was here. I only saw it by chance while looking on a map so I went for a look around yesterday and it's funny how I've driven past on Rose Hill many times but never knew there was a castle there. Beacon Hill looks like a great place to walk and I'll be exploring it more, it's one of the few places I've been where health and safety haven't gone mad and up barriers up everywhere. There are some pretty steep drops with nothing to stop you from dropping if you trip!
@theheightoflife
@theheightoflife 2 года назад
Hi!! 👋🏻 Thanks for clicking on my video 😃 Yeah exactly the same here haha... Im usually in the hills, moors and mountains have done it for over 15 years. But end of last year decided to create a channel to share my adventures with others and try and help inspire other people to get out and enjoy the great outdoors 😊 But, then more lockdowns happened. I was exploring more of my local area when we were 'allowed' so went into the Lickey Hills etc more than normal and thought id make a video to get something up on the channel. I knew it was there but had never been as always venturing further up north, Peak / Lake Districts / Scotland or into Wales etc. Surprising what is on your doorstep though 😃 You should definitely have a wonder round there more but be careful for sure, especially if you're not used to that sort of terrain. At the start if the video I went off the path through the woods but you can just follow a path round 👍🏻👍🏻 ATB take care and keep enjoying the great outdoors 💚 Chris ✌🏼

@@theheightoflife I love the fact that this is the “Shire” from Lord of the Rings fame. Tolkien’s childhood home and inspiration for the Hobbit. Did you check out the obelisk on monument lane? The tower with the “eye” on top. Likey wood is the home of the “Ents” and the Old Rose and Crown at the bottom of the hill I believe was the local bar in Hobbiton. Fortunately this is home to me and walk my hound here quite often.

Is a trig point the same as a summit marker? Sorry, my dumb question of the day! 😀 For some reason we have ZERO beautiful castles in South Dakota! 🤣
@theheightoflife
@theheightoflife 3 года назад
Hey! Yeah kind of, although theyre not just on summits (** hint, hint video that will be up today haha) they are concrete pillars, about 4' tall, which were used by the Ordnance Survey in order to determine the exact shape of the country. They are generally located on the highest bit of ground in the area, so that there is a direct line of sight from one to the next. So yeah summits for that area as such but just not on hills or mountains, you'll see these strange ones in my video today haha. They are generally known as trigonometrical or triangulation stations in North America I think if that rings any bells. Haha yeah I bet! This was obviously like a kind of 'joke' or illusion as it was only a castle 'shape' so to speak. We do have some big actual castles over here too. Thanks so much for watching!

I thought that trig point was something to do with the AAA guns that where there during the war ?
@theheightoflife
@theheightoflife Год назад
Hi! No Trig Points or Trigonometry Points were used by Ordinance Servey to map out the height and contours of the country before maps and some are still used to test elevation changes. There is always 3 within range of each other in a triangulation process. The toposcope in the 'castle' like structure is there to show Points of interest on a clear day 👍🏻☺️ Thanks for watching... Haha this was as restrictions had lifted a little and we could stay local... I looked at the route on an OS map and had it with me, set the compass to my direction of travel and followed the way so I knew where to go. This was only as I was unable to get to the mountains at this time during the pandemic. It is a pretty simple route though
